Together, we can

Preserve the stories that shaped our community

Houston County Genealogy is a nonprofit society devoted to protecting family history, preserving local records, and helping people discover the lives, names, and stories that came before them. Through research support, educational programs, and community collaboration, we work to make genealogy more accessible for everyone.

Our Impact

For years, our society has helped individuals, families, students, and local researchers reconnect with their heritage through records, archives, workshops, and shared knowledge.
Every family tree expanded, every forgotten document preserved, and every local story recorded strengthens the historical memory of our community.

The people who come to us are often looking for more than names and dates. They are searching for belonging, context, and a deeper understanding of where they come from. That is why our work matters. Genealogy helps preserve identity, honor past generations, and build stronger connections across time.

What we do

We organize and support meaningful projects that help preserve regional history, document family lines, and make genealogical research easier for the public. Our work brings together volunteers, researchers, and community members who believe local history should remain visible, searchable, and shared.

We Preserve & Archive

We identify, collect, and help preserve family records, cemetery information, historical references, and community documents that might otherwise be lost over time.

We Support Researchers

We offer guidance to people tracing their family lines, exploring local surnames, or learning how to work with historical records and genealogy tools.

We Provide Education

We host talks, beginner sessions, and research workshops that help members and visitors better understand genealogy methods, records, and historical sources.

We Build Community

We create opportunities for members, volunteers, and local families to work together on projects that celebrate shared history and preserve it for future generations.

Our numbers that speak

The growth of our society reflects the continued importance of family history work. Every new member, preserved document, and completed project helps strengthen the connection between past and present.
