CASSIE ADELE MINTER, born January 6, 1911, died Saturday, February 5, 2005 at the age of 94. She was a member of First Baptist church of south Houston, the Eastern Star and Pipefitters Local Union 211 Retirees Club. Preceding her in death was her husband, Will-kie Minter; 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Her loving family includes her sons Larry and wife Jo, and Dennis and wife Myrtle; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Monday, February 7, 2005 at Pasadena Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be at 10 A.M. on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at Pasadena Funeral Chapel. Charles Milton Nickells

Charles Milton Nickells, age 84, born on July 19, 1920 in Saratoga, Texas passed away January 24, 2005, after a short battle with terminal Pancreatic Cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Winfield Scott Nickells and Edna Arrington Nickells.

He graduated in 1938 from Saratoga High School and graduated from Sam Houston State Teachers College in 1942.

He was in the U.S. Navy as a Chief Specialist in Athletics.

He was a lifetime member of the American Association of Professional Land Men and the Lafayette Association of Petroleum Land Men. In his early years with Sun Oil Company he was very active in the American Petroleum Institute.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Gates Nickells, one son, Charlie Nickells and wife Gerry. Grandsons, Chas Nickells and wife Michele and great granddaughters, Shelby and Makenna, grandson Mark Nickells and wife LeaAnne and great grandsons, Cullen, Tucker and Mason.

The family would like to extend a special Thank you to the exceptional home care he was given by loving employees of Houston Hospice and especially Kay Linson. In lieu of usual remembrances memorial may be made to Houston Hospice, 8811 Gaylord, Suite 100, Houston, Texas 77024.

Grave side services will be held at the Weldon Texas Community Cemetery on January 26, 2005 at 1:00pm with Dr. Ralph Thompson of the Amelia Baptist Church of Beaumont officiating.

She was a loving mother and a devoted wife with a wonderful sense of humor. She loved books, movies, music, and cats. She was a faithful member of Northwest Hills United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr Pennsylvania and acquired a Master's Degree in Public Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. She was a Certified Public Accountant.

GRAPELAND - Services for Carty Keen, 82, Grapeland, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Grapeland.

Burial will be in Parker Cemetery under direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Chapel, Grapeland.

Mrs. Keen died Sept. 28, 2007, in a Crockett hospital.

She was born Nov. 18, 1924, to the late John W. and Eunice Ann Clark Ellison. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church and Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Aaron Keen.

Survivors include daughter, Charlotte Ann Kramer, Grapeland; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.

BOLIGEE, AL — Bennie Wayne Johnson, 71, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2007, at The First Presbyterian Church of Boligee, with Dr. John Warner and the Rev. Dan Thornton officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mark’s Episcopal Cemetery in Boligee with Kidd-Robbins Funeral directors of Demopolis are in charge of the arrangements. The Johnson family will receive friends Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2007, at Kidd-Robbins Funeral Home.

Johnson’s parents, Bennie Lee Johnson and Della Mae Nealey Johnson; his sister, Edith Ebby and his brother, Clifton Johnson preceded him in death.

Johnson was born in Crockett, Texas and has lived in Boligee for the past 20 years and is a former resident of Demopolis for 14 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Boligee and worked in the grocery distribution business for 45 years.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Kathy Johnson of Boligee; two daughters, Eloise Tucker of Gallion, Sandra Judkins of Lake Tawakoni, Texas; three sons, James Lacy and wife, Terri Lewers of Mesquite, Texas, Larry Wayne Johnson and wife, Cindy and Danny Ray and wife, Shelia, all of Lake Tawakoni, Texas; two sisters, Lorene Corbitt of Grand Prairie and Dorothy Buckhanan of Forney, Texas; one brother, Ray Johnson and wife, Bonnie of Greenville, Texas; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Ebey, Preston Hampton, Lemuel Kemp, Vernon Kemp, Wayne Kemp, Jacob McGee, Mark Pederson and Shane Taylor.

Charlyne Matchett Shaver

 

    Mrs Charlyne Matchett Shaver, age 83 of Crockett, former resident of Palestine and Dallas, passed away on Tuesday, Oct 2 in Tyler.  Mrs Shaver was born May 27, 1924 in Houston County.  She was a retired teacher and member of the South Loop Church of Christ in Crockett.

 

    Survivors include husband, George Willis Shaver of Crockett; daughter, Gorgana Hyde and husband, Joe of Crockett; grandchildren, Jeremy Daniel Hyde of Crockett, Casey Shaver Hyde of Huntsville; great grandchildren, Nathan Blake Hyde of Lovelady, Harper Jo Hyde of Crockett; aunt, Vivian Brandon of Lovelady; brother in law, John R Shaver of Crockett; sister in law, Margie Cecil of Palestine; nephew, James Matchett Morgan of San Antonio; numerous other relatives.

Pauline Marshall

 

    Mrs Idea Pauline Marshall, age 95 of Crockett went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 1.  She was born on March 30, 1912 in Calvert, Texas to John Barney and Allie Pauline Riley Hause.  Mrs Marshall went to school at Calvert.  On September 15, 1934, she married the love of her life, Roy Jackson Marshall in Calvert.  Together they enjoyed 67 wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with three children before the Lord called R J home on February 20, 2002.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Crockett.

 

    Mrs Marshall spent her life in the most noble calling a woman can have - a Christian wife and mother.  She devoted her life to raising her children, caring for her family and serving along side her husband.  She served the Lord with him at Reid's Prairie Baptist Church in Waller, Cobbs Creek (Elwood) Baptist Church in Midway; Shady Grove Baptist Church of Crockett; Antioch Baptist Church of Lovelady; Westside Baptist Church and Arbor Baptist Church of Crockett and was the perfect example of a pastor's wife.  For years she taught Sunday School to children and countless children were affected by her gentle, quiet and Godly lifestyle.  She was a fabulous cook and entertained often in her home serving the best coconut pie in the county.

 

    Survivors are children, Wanda Myers and husband Rev Kenneth Myers of Trinity, Joan Woolley of Crockett, Rev Roy W Marshall and wife Sharon of Hewitt; grandchildren, Tammy Myers Cloug and husband, Delbert, Julie Myers Perez and husband, Shane, Kenneth Wayne Myers and wife Belinda, Annette Arnold Green and husband, Michael, Tim Arnold and wife Dawn, Wayne Marshall and wife Brooke, Heather Marshall Anderson and husband Doug, Lindsey Marshall Klepper and husband Travis; 11 great grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Walston and Doris Snow; several nieces and nephews.

 

    Services for Pauline Marshall of Crockett will be Thursday, October 4 at 11:00 am in the First Baptist Church with Rev Roy W Marshall, Rev Kenneth R Myers, and Rev Kenney Dickenson officiating.  Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park.  Family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm at the Funeral Home.

Eugene Trigg

 

    Services for Eugene Trigg, age 76 of Grapeland will be at 1:00 pm Thursday, October 4 at Guiceland Cemetery with Rev David Bradley officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home Chapel, Grapeland.

 

    Mr Trigg died Sunday at ETMC - Crockett.  He was born December 22, 1930 in Anderson County to Lee and Cora Hancock Trigg.  Mr Trigg was retired from the US Army.  He also did 4 years of testing military equipment.  Mr Trigg owned numerous apartments in the Houston area.  He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW in Ft Smith, Arkansas.

 

    Mr Trigg was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Billie Trigg; two sisters, Gladys and Elsie; three brothers, Wilbur Trigg, Hassle Trigg, and James Trigg.  He is survived by his wife, Brenda Joyce Trigg of Grapeland; sisters, Melba Prince and husband, JW of Pasadena and Barnie Allison of San Antonio; step children, Kenneth Raney and family of Oklahoma, Jeff Raney of Georgia and Gary Raney and family of Washington and numerous nieces and nephews.

A. Lorene Corbitt, 79, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2007.

Ms. Corbitt was born Oct. 4, 1927, in Crockett, Texas, to the late Bennie and Della Johnson.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, in the Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home chapel in Grand Prairie.

Interment will follow in the Creek Cemetery in Austonio, Texas.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jerald and Dee Corbitt; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Bob Staglik and Deborah and Rickie Bryant; one brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Bonnie Johnson; one sister, Dorothy Buchanan; five grandchildren, Chris and Tim Corbitt, Randy and Russell Pitts and Candice Bryant; and numerous nieces and nephews.




William Edward "Pete" Hammons

 

    Services for William Edward "Pete" Hammons, age 63 of Belott will be at 1:00 pm Friday, October 19 at First Baptist Church, Grapeland with Bro David Bradley and Bro Charles Pyle officiating.  Burial will follow in New Energy Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home Chapel, Grapeland.

 

    William Edward "Pete" Hammons passed away Tuesday at his residence.  He was born in Houston County on February 13, 1944 to Bill and Lucille Hammons, the youngest of three children.

 

    Pete, as he was known to all his family and friends, retired from Southwestern Bell after 38 years of service beginning in Houston 1964 and ending in Nacogdoches in 2002.  He was a graduate of Kennard High School and was a member of the Board of Trustees for Kennard ISD for many years.  He loved being a part of helping children succeed academically and athletically.  He was a great fan of high school sports.  He loved hunting, fishing, flying his airplane and traveling.  His favorite pastime was spending time with family, friends and beloved grandsons, Dyllan and Gable.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Grapeland where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher.  He worked with the volunteers at Crockett State School as a bible study teacher and participated in epithany.

 

    He was a devoted, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.  Pete loved people and touched many lives with his smile, his humor, and his generosity.  He is survived by his loving wife, Deloris; son, Heath; grandsons, Joshua Dyllan and Brandon Gable; sister, Joyce Priddy of Gladewater; brother, John Hammons and wife, Sue of Belott, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.

    Services for John Samuel "Sam" Sullivan, Jr, age 70 of Grapeland will be at 1:00 pm Thursday, October 18 at Willow Hole Chapel in Madisonville with Chaplin Carey Ponder officiating.  Burial will follow in Willow Hole Cemetery in Madisonville.  Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home Chapel, Grapeland.

 

    He went to be with his master on Monday, October 15 at his residence.  He was born July 25, 1937 in Whitehall, Tx to John Samuel Sullivan, Sr and Velma Snooks Sullivan.  Mr Sullivan was a self employed welder.  He was a Baptist and a member of the Augusta Masonic Lodge.

 

    Mr Sullivan was preceded in death by his parents, previous wife Ruby Thomas Sullivan, and a step son Jimmy Pennebaker.  He is survived by his wife Earline Smith Sullivan; daughter, Robin Fontenot; a young lady he called his daughter Deana Rene Berry; brother Van Sullivan and wife Dollie; sisters, Mary Jane Chastain and husband Lynn and Lulu Perrasarra and husband, Donnie; granddaughter Danielle Fontenot; son Michael Sullivan; two step sons Glenn and Tommy and a step daughter Diane Beene; many nieces, nephews and friends and his little dogs Chico, Booger Shane and Marcie.

  Rosie Jennings Kleypas, 74 of Texas City passed away Friday, October 11, 2007 at The Cottages of Clear Lake, after a long journey through Alzheimer’s.  She was born February 20, 1933 in Trinity, Texas to Edward T. and Ollie Mae Riddle

Rosie was preceded in death by her husband William E. Kleypas and parents.  

A loving Mother and Nanny, she will be forever cherished and missed by her surviving children, Dennis Jennings, Thresa Jennings McClellen and husband, Charles, and Linda Jennings Rogers, all of Texas City and loving sister, Mickie Jones of Texas City; brother Robert Riddle and wife Pat of Wyoming; grandchildren Jennifer Jennings Silberisen and husband, Harold, Tim McClellen and wife, Amy, Breanne Rogers, Ryan McClellen, Jason Jennings and Kasey Rogers, great-grandchildren, Clay Jennings, Austin Silberisen and Madison McClellen; step-daughters, Lisa Kleypas, Suzanne Kleypas and Sara Barber.

Russell Franklin Milliken, Jr.
July 9, 1925 to Jan. 6, 2008
Russell Franklin Milliken, Jr., 82, died at his home in Florence, Texas, on Jan. 6. He was born July 9, 1925, in Ira, Texas, and spent his youth growing up in nearby Westbrook.

After finishing school Russell soon joined the United States Army and a few months later married Nelda Jo York.

He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant after serving in the 508th Infantry regiment that fought at Normandy, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. After the war he returned home where he farmed, worked in the oil fields, and eventually owned his own service station in Big Spring. After retiring from Mobil he and Jo moved to Burnet in the mid 1980s where they lived at Enchanted Valley near Lake LBJ.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Burnet and was a Mason for more than 50 years. He was affiliated with many different Masonic organizations and enjoyed attending the different meetings and activities they provided. For the past few years he lived in Florence where he could farm and work the land he had. His marriage to Nelda Jo on April 20, 1944 lasted for more than 47 years until her death in September 1991.

In addition to his wife Jo, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Joe Don Milliken, in September 1991.

Russell is survived by one daughter, Ann Morrow and husband, Tommy, of Florence; two sons, Bruce Milliken and wife, Karen, of Florence and Joe Milliken and wife, Mary, of Melvin, Texas; one brother, Bill Milliken of Coahoma, Texas; one sister, Vera Lee Hunter of Marble Falls; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet with the Rev. Ellen Ely officiating.

Burial was held on Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Coahoma Cemetery in Coahoma, Texas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the playground renovation fund at the First United Methodist Church of Burnet or to any favorite charity or organization.

John Keen

 

John Keen Born,  May 16, 1908, died on Aug. 13, 2008.

 

He was one of 12 children of Ed and Della Keen, raised in Houston County. He was joined by four stepsisters in 1918, and one half-sister in 1922.

 

He moved to Dallas in 1927, retired in 1973 after 45 years with Cannon Ball and National Linen Service, serving as manager in Lubbock and Wichita Falls. He was an avid bowler, active in various Methodist churches, longtime Mason and Lions club member.

 

He was preceded in death in 1960 by his first wife of 32 years, Gladys Bridges Keen. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ina of Greenacres, Fla.; son, Jerry Keen (Ruth) of DeSoto; daughter, Betty Lawson of Huntsville, Ala.; stepson, Alan (Mary) Wilson of Boynton Beach, Fla.; sisters, Nora Wills and Opal Thompson of Dallas; brother, Darrell Keen of Elkhart; half-sister, Eddie Garrison of Yellville, Ark.; and many loving grand, great-grand, and great-great-grand children.

 

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17 at Jaynes Memorial Chapel, 811 S. Cockrell Hill Rd, Duncanville. A graveside service is 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas, officiated by the Rev. Billy Johnson.
