Mrs. S. P. Dotson

Funeral services for Mrs. S. P. Dotson, 81, of Percilla, were held Sunday,
Jan. 20, at 4 PM in the First Baptist Church, Grapeland with Rev. Blank
Kerby and Rev. L. D. Sellers officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen
Cemetery, Percilla.

Pallbearers were the following nephews: Jimmie Foster, Jack Watts, Harmon
Watts, Woodrow Watts, James Franklin, B. C. Watts and Luther Dotson.

Native of Anderson County, Mrs. Dotson was born February 12, 1881. Member
of the Baptist church, she died Friday night in Baytown following a long
illness. Survivors: husband, S. P. Dotson of Percilla; a daughter, Mrs. Jim
Ferguson of Mont Belvieu; a brother, Robert Watts of Houston; a sister,
Mrs. Fannie Davidson of Corsicana; two grandchildren, Bobby Ferguson of
Mont Belvieu and Mrs. Marie Clanton of Baytown; 2 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Burl (Lenora) Douglass, 79, of 501 S. 5th Street, Crockett, passed
away Thursday, Aug 19, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Douglass was a lifetime resident of Crockett and Houston County, and
was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Waller Chapel, with
Rev. E. P. Ramsey officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial
Park.

Mrs. Douglass is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were nephews, Albert L. Smith, Jasper W. Brannen, Gerald L.
Smith, N. A. Smith, Sam C. Harkins and Bevin O. Smith.

Mr. Clyde Douglas, 77, of Crocket, died Saturday in a Crockett hospital.

Mr. Douglas was born Nov. 21, 1892, in Winchester, Ky. A retired clothing
salesman, he was a member of the First Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with Rev. H. J. Rhodes of the First Methodist Church officiating.
Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park in Crockett.

Pallbearers were Dave Hazlett, Bobby Rains, Steve Allee, Nat Patton Jr.,
Loyd Lovell and Bob Mattox.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Eula Douglas of Crockett; three sisters,
Mrs. Stanley Powell of Winchester, Ky., Mrs. Ethel Johnson of Charleston,
W. Va., and Mrs. Edna Renfro of Louisville, Ky.; also several nieces and
nephews.

Mrs. Nora Lee Douglas

Mrs. Nora Lee Douglas, age 76, died at her home in the Arbor community
Sunday morning. She was a member of the Baptist Church at Arbor and had
resided in Houston County for the last 60 years.

Funeral services were held 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Arbor Baptist Church,
with the Revs. Max Petty and A. S. Lee officiating. Burial was in the
Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Buford McManners, Billie Johnson, Claude Tolar, James
Ferguson, Rob Cade and Milton Lowe.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. H. M. Cummings and Mrs. Nanie Lee
Cade, both of South Houston; one son, Willie Tolar of Arbor; two brothers
Harvey and Wiley Lowe, both of Latexo; one sister, Mrs. Abby Grant of
Houston; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Eudye Carolyn Dowdy, 75, of Ratcliff died Friday evening in a local
hospital. Mrs. Dowdy was a lifelong resident of Houston County and a member

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Sunday in the Ratcliff church, with
Rev. L. Beasley and Rev. Frank Oswald officiating. Burial was in the Mount
Vernon Cemetery.

Mr. William Albert Dowdy, 84, of Ratcliff, died in a local hospital, Friday
afternoon.

Mr. Dowdy, a lifelong resident of Houston County, was a retired merchant,
and a member of Ratcliff Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Ratcliff Baptist Church,
with Rev. Frank Oswald and Rev. Glenn Stovall officiating. Burial was in
the Mt. Vernon Cemetery.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Virgie English and Mrs. Mylo Bounds,
both of Crockett, and Mrs. Berta Baughman and Mrs. Georgia Vaugh, both of
Houston; three brothers, Jim and Oscar Dowdy, both of Ratcliff, and Alton
Dowdy of Port Arthur; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Myrtle May Dowdy

Mrs. Myrtle May Dowdy, 80, of Ratcliff died in a local hospital Monday,
following an extended illness. A lifetime resident of Houston County, Mrs.
Dowdy was born may 22, 1884, and was a member of the Mount Vernon Baptist
Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Mount Vernon Baptist
Church, with the Revs' Lambert Beasley and Sidney DuBose, officiating.
Burial was in the Mount Vernon Cemetery, near Ratcliff.

Pallbearers were Morris Luker, Charles M. Currie, Jimmy English, Joe Luker,
John E. Dowdy and Atmar Luker.

Survivors include a son, Henry Dowdy of Ratcliff; a brother, Porter Payne
of Ratcliff; two sisters, Miss Annie Payne of Ratcliff and Mrs. Bell Taylor
of Groveton; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. John L. Downs

Mr. John L. Downs of 412 Park Street, Crockett, passed away early Saturday
morning in a local hospital.

Mr. Downs, 59, was born Nov. 19, 1913, in Houston County and had lived here
for his entire lifetime. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church and
was employed by Stowe Lumber Company until illness forced his retirement.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel with Rev. Glynn Little officiating. Interment was in the Creek
Cemetery at Austonio.

Pallbearers were Alton McCelvey, Frank Allen, Earl Stowe, Ralph Smith, Joe
Lane and Ralph Arnold.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. John L. Downs; six daughters, Mrs. Vera
Bynum, Mrs. Tiny Wilson, Mrs. Dorine Kirksey, Miss Josephine Downs, Miss
Anita Downs and Miss Janita Downs, all of Crockett; three sons John L.
Downs Jr., Edgar Nolan downs and R. L. Downs all of Crockett; three
brothers, David Downs of Crockett, Newton Downs and Horace Downs, both of
Willis; four sisters, Mrs. Mamie Brewer of Bakersfield, Calif., Mrs. Lula
Issack of Willis, Mrs. Claudia McNeil of Alto and Mrs. Ruby McDaniels of
Slocum; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Sarah Alice Downs

Mrs. Sarah Alice Downs of 14147 Wood Forest Blvd, Houston, Texas, died
Thursday in a Pasadena Hospital. Mrs. Downs, age 88, was born in Lee
County, Texas, on February 18, 1880 but had lived in this county for a
number of years prior to moving to Houston. She was a member of the
Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Ollie Hollis, Mrs. Opal Skipper, both
of Pasadena, Mrs. Zula Bowdoin of Houston; two sons, Bennie Downs of
Channelview and Bob H. Downs of Humble; one brother, Henry Williams, of
Rusk; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Alice Downs were held Saturday
afternoon at 4 o'clock in the Creek Cemetery near Austonio with Rev. Thomas
Spiers officiating. Interment was in the Creek Cemetery.

Mrs. Nora Belle Doyle, 86, of Star Rt. 1, Groveton, died in Trinity
Memorial Hospital Friday.

Mrs. Doyle was born in Birmingham, Ala., June 30, 1881. She was a member of
the Flat Prairie Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church of
Friday, with Rev. James McKinney and Rev. Franklin M. Biles officiating.
Burial was in the Ellis Prairie Cemetery.

Pallbearers were William H. Doyle, Frank Bradley Doyle, Jacky W. Dominy,
James W. Thompson, H. Gentry Hallmark, and R. S. Brasher.

Survivors include four sons, Pruitt and Herbert Doyle, both of Groveton, J.

Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Driskell, 72, were held Friday, Jan. 22, at
2:30 p.m. in the Holly Church with the Rev. J. R. Willmon officiating.

Mrs. Driskell, a member of the Baptist church, died Thursday, Jan. 21, in a
local hospital.

She is survived by a brother, A. M. Clancy of Houston; two sisters, Miss

Mrs. Nannie Driskell, 91, of Lovelady, died early Tuesday morning 8in a
local nursing home.

Mrs. Driskell, born Nov. 30, 1877, in Meridian, Miss., had lived in Houston
County most of her life. She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Lovelady Baptist
Church, with Rev. E. W. Solomon officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen
Cemetery in Lovelady.

Pallbearers were Joe Lynn Driskell, Monte Jack driskell, Larry King, Jack
King, Johnny Driskell and Tommy Driskell.

Survivors include two sons, Jasper Driskell of Crockett and Joe Driiskell
of Lovelady; two daughters, Mrs. L. C. Brown and Mrs. J. H. King, both of

Mr. Morris Gerald Driskell, 55, of Houston, died Thursday, Dec. 23, in the
Veterans Administration Hospital in Houston.

Funeral services were held from the Callaway Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m.
Friday, Dec. 24, with the Rev. Ed Mace, pastor of the First Christian
Church of Crockett, officiating.

Interment was in the Evergreen Memorial park in Crockett, and pallbearers
were Barker Tunstall, T. J. (Spud) Tunstall, Sam Grundy, Don Currey, Ramon
Callaway and Reginald Driskell.

Born May 12, 1910, in Elkhart Mr. Driskell was a veteran of World War II
and a member of the Christian church.

Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Mary McDlhannon of Houston, and two brothers,
J. D. (Jimmie) Driskell and W. H. (Bill) Driskell, both of Houston.

Mr. James Herman Driskell, 64, of Rt. 3, Crockett, died Friday evening at
the Trinity Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Driskell was born in Trnity County on march 9, 1906, but had lived here
for the last 14 years. He was a member of the Latexo Baptist Church. He was
a veteran of World War II.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Latexo Baptist Church,
with the pastor, Rev. C. H. Phifer, officiating. Interment was in the
Evergreen Memorial Park in Crockett.

Pallbearers were Maurice L. Bradley, Mark R. Barclay, Tim E. Troutman,
Raymond M. Willis, Billy R. Webb and Maurice Guidry.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. J. H. Driskell of Latexo; two brothers,

Grady Brent Driskell, 51, of Jasper, Texas, passed away suddenly Wednesday,
Jan. 9, in Angelina County, Texas.

Born July 23, 1923, in Trinity County, Mr. Driskell was self employed as a
housing contractor in Jasper. He was a veteran of WW II.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan 10, at 2 p.m. from the Callaway
Memorial Chapel with mr. Jim McDonald officiating. Interment was in the
Holly Cemetery.

Mr. Troy Driskell, 66, died in Seattle Sunday, April 6.

Mr. Driskell was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. H. (Billy) Driskell of
Crockett, and spent his early life here.

sister, Mrs. W. D. (Reba) James of Albuquerque, N.M.

nursing home Wednesday, July 14.

Nrs. Driskell was born Feb. 4, 1895, in Houston County. She was a member of
the Loop 304 Church of Christ.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 am Friday in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with mr. Malcolm King and Rev. E. D. Sarratt officiating. Interment
was in the New Energy Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Eddie Driskell, David McLeoed, E. T. Hickman, B. M.

Mr. Ben F. Dryden, Sr., 65, of Riverside, died Sunday in Trinity Memorial
Hospital.

Mr. Dryden, who had lived in Riverside the last two years, was a member of
the Baptist Church, and of Carpenter Joint Locals 213 and 1890.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Waller Chapel in
Trinity, with Rev. D. L. Bristow officiating. Burial was in the Laura Hill
Cemetery at Cold Springs.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Mae Dryden Sr., of Riverside; a son,
Billy E. Dryden of Pineville, La.; a daughter, Mrs. Estelle Fowler of
Wardville, La.; two brothers, Buford Dryden of Pineville, La., and John Poe
Dryden of Conroe; a sister, Mrs. Katie Johnson of Kansas City, Mo.; and

Funeral services for Mr. Eddie Lester DeBose, 78, of Rt. 2, Grapeland, were
held Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 3 p.m. in the Union Chapel Church, east of
Grapeland, with Rev. J. W. Wortham officiating. Burial was in the Davis
Cemetery near Grapeland.

Mr. DuBose was born in Mason County, Texas, Dec. 23, 1887, and was a son of
the late David DuBose and Mrs. Annie Flemming DeBose. A farmer and member
of the Union Chapel Church, he died Sunday, Sept. 4, at 2:30 p.m. at his
home following a short illness. He had resided on Rt. 2, Grapeland, for the
past eleven years.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mary Bell Winslett DuBose of Grapeland; three
sons, William Curtis DuBose of Angleton, Oscar DuBose of Mesquite, Texas,
and Wilbur Lee DuBose of Livingston; a daughter, Miss Lillie Mae DuBose of
Grapeland; three brothers, Joe DuBose of Victoria, Johnnie DuBose of Cuero,
and Wade DuBose of Springfield, Mo., two sisters, Mrs. Rena Palmer of San
Antonio, and Mrs. Cynthia Brandt of Victoria; seven grandchildren; and two

years. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church of Port Arthur.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Concord
Cemetery, with Rev. E. P. Ramsey officiating.

Survivors include a son, James Dudley of Port Arthur; two brothers, Leslie
E. Smith of Crockett and Charlie Smith of Palestine; two sisters. Mrs. Mina
Wilson of Crockett and Mrs. Erma Barkley of Port Arthur; also two
grandchildren.

Samuel Warren Duitch

Funeral services for Samuel Warren Duitch, 97, of Grapeland were held
Sunday, Sept. 18, at 3 p.m. in the First Methodist Church, Grapeland, with
Rev. Ben Reily and Rev. J. T. Riley officiating. Burial was in the
Guiceland Cemetery, near Grapeland.

Pallbearers were Elzy Shaw, T. W. Dunham, John Kennedy, Harry Pridgen, I.
I. Gradshaw and Fred Thomas.

Mr. Duitch was born August 28, 1869 in Liberty, Pennsylvania and moved to
Grapeland at the age of 8. A retired farmer, school teacher and merchant,
he also served at one time as justice of the peace and commissioner of
Precinct No. 1 Houston County. Member of the Woodmen of the World, and
First Methodist Church, Grapeland, he died Saturday, September 17, at 3:40

New Concord, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Adela Crouch of Kirbyville; five

Major Charles Glenn Duff

Major Charles Glenn Duff, 80, of Trinity, died Sunday in a Huntsville
hospital.

Major Duff was a veteran of World Wars I and II, and a member of the
American Legion. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Waller Funeral Home
Chapel in Trinity, with Mr. Pickett officiating. Burial was in the Cedar
Grove Cemetery, with full military honors.

Honorary pallbearers were Dean Price, Dan Waller, Bobby Skipper, Harry
Cohen, Leroy Hardy, and Monroe Smith.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Charles Glenn Dugg of Trinty; two sons,
Charles W. Duff of the U. S. Air Force and Carl F. Duff of Houston; three
brothers, Sam Duff of Fort Worth, R. H. Duff of Marlin and A. H. Duff of
Hillsboro; a sister, Mrs. Laura Saunder of Corsicana; four grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews.

Irven Self Duggan

Mr. Irven Self Duggan, 61, of Crockett died Friday afternoon, following an
auto accident on the Houston highway, five miles south of Crockett.

Mr. Duggan had lived in Crockett the last 15 years, and was owner of the
coin car wash plant. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the All Saints Episcopal
Church with Dr. James Savoy officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial
park.

Pallbearers were Robert King, Jack Beasley, Bob Wray, Sam Arledge, Clive
Dickey; Reed Ferguson, Jim Rector, R. S. Ormand, and C. L. Edminston.

Survivors include the widow Mrs. Polly Duggan of Crockett; a son, Irven
Edward Duggan of Houston; two brothers, Rollie Duggan of Hobart, Okla., and
T.J. Duggan of West Plains, Mo.; four sisters, Mrs. Si Foot and Mrs.
Herbert Onstot, both of California, Mrs. Edgar Portwood of Hobart, Okla.,
and Mrs. Myrtle Riffle of Gainesville; and one grandchild.

Waller Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nedra Ann Duke

Mrs. Nedra Ann Duke, 23, of Texas City, died in that city Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Mrs. Duke was a 1964 graduate of Texas City High School.

Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Antioch
Cemetery, near Lovelady.

Survivors include the husband, Cecil Ray Duke of Texas City; two daughters,
Angelia Kay and Delores Evelyn Duke, both of Texas City; her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Daws9on Harvey of Texas City; five brothers, Dawson and Rayford
Harvey, both of Texas City, Maurice Harvey of South Houston, Kenneth Harvey
of LaMarque and Larry Harvey of Fort Sill, Okla.; two sisters, Everly and
Evalon Harvey, both of Texas City; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Knight

Richard Curtis Dunaway

Infant Richard Curtis Dunaway of Rt. 2, Trinity, died in Huntsville
Memorial Hospital Thursday evening.

Graveside funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, with REv. William
McKnight officiating. Burial was in the Taylor Cemetery.

Survivors include the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Joe Dunaway; two
brothers, Thomas Edward and Joe Allen Dunaway; four sisters, Lana Marline,
Mary Kathine, Lisa Michelle and Geanie Marie Dunaway, all of Trinity.
