Mrs. Lona Belle Williams

Mrs. Lona Belle Williams, 82, of Groveton, died at her home Sunday, July
28.

A native of Cherokee County, Mrs. Williams was born on Aug. 23, 1880, and
had lived in Groveton since 1930. She was a member of the Presbyterian
church.

Graveside funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 29, with the
Rev. Andrew Byers officiating. Interment was in the Glenwood Cemetery in
Groveton. Pallbearers were M. C. Bailey, Herbert Turner, James Joyner, Bud
Jones, Darwin Creasy, and Jack Dickey.

Mrs. Williams is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Reed Dial, Groveton,
Mrs. Lola Nixon, Galveston, and Mrs. Eugene Mattke, San Antonio; two sons,
George L. Williams, LaMarque, and Robert Williams, Groveton; 11
grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

James Robert Turner

Mr. James Robert Turner, 86, of Crockett died in a local hospital Tuesday
morning. A lifelong resident of Houston County, Mr. Turner was a retired
farmer and rancher. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and of
the Woodmen of the World.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in the Calvary Baptist
Church, with Rev's. A. S. Lee and E. P. Ramsey officiating. Burial was in
the Rice Cemetery.

Pallbearers were A. B. Brown Sr., W. A. Spain, C. G. Turner, Dr. A. B.
Brown Jr., Dr. Charles A. Spain, and John A. Dean.

Honorary pallbearers were John Smith, Elbert Ellis, Wade Minter Sr., Leroy
Grebb, Theo Graham, W. S. Spruill, Herman Knox and George Pinnell.

Survivors include four sons, J. D. Turner of Dallas, Jack Turner of
Beaumont, Ray Turner of McCaney and Charles W. Turner of Crockett; two
daughters, Mrs. Adkin Spain and Mrs. A. B. Brown Sr., both of Crockett; two
brothers, Albert Turner of Baytown and Sam Turner of Crockett; two sisters,
Mrs. Albert Smith and Mrs. Jack Williamson, both of Crockett; six 

grandchildren and six geat-grandchildren.

Mrs. Verne Kimbro

Mrs. Verne Kimbro, 65, of Houston died Sunday. Mrs. Kimbro was a native of
Houston County, but had lived in Houston the last 28 years. She was a
member of the Antioch Church.

Funeral services wre held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Antioch Church, with Rev.
Joe Brumbelow officiating. Burial was in the Antioch Cemetery.

Survivors include the husband, Jeff J. Kimbro of Houston; a daughter, Mrs.
Mildred Stephens of Houston; three brothers, Homer Butler of Lovelady, H.
E. Burler of Roby, and Eskell Butler of Houston; two sisters, Mrs. Ora
Chandler and Mrs. Harris Reynolds, both of Lovelady; a grandson, Don
Hendrix, of Houston, and a number of nieces and nephews.

J. R. (Jinks) Wells

Funeral services for J. R. (Jinks) Wells, age 50, of Grapeland, were held
Monday, Dec 16. at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Grapeland. Rev. J.
T. Riley and James Moseley officiating and burial was in the Guiceland
Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dewitt Richards, Jimmie Garner, George H. Scarborough,
Leland Herod, Joe Huff and Albert Huff. Named as honorary pallbearrs were
Moses H. Spence and Wade Pennington.

Mr. Wells died following a long illness at 9:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in
a Palestine hospital. He was born in Houston County, on April 27, 1913, and
was a service station operator.

Survivors are his wife of Grapeland; two sons, Daonald R. Wells of
Palestine, William A. Wells of Grapeland; his mother, Mrs. Dona Rosprin of
Palestine; four brothers, Arledge Wells of Grapeland, William G. Wells of
Portland, Ore., Ray A. Wells of Miami, Fla., Bobby Wells of Palestine; two
sisters, Lometa Treadwell, both of Palestine; three grandchildren.

Robert Franklin Hale

Mr. Robert Franklin (Bob) Hale, 86 year-old retired farmer of Crockett,
died at his home Sunday, Dec. 15.

A member of the Assembly of God Church in Crockett, Mr. Hale was born in
Hector, Ark., on July 7, 1877

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Tallie Ida Mae Hale of Crockett; seven
daughters, Mrs. Lena McGuire of Elkhart, Mrs. Lula Gibson of Houston, Miss
Helen Hale of Dallas, and Mrs. Vera Strban, Mrs. Rosa Lee Selman, Mrs.
Dorothy Selman, Mrs. Verma Munsinger, all of Crockett; two sons, John B.
Hale of Crockett and Cecil E. Hale of Houston; 25 grandchildren; 20 great
grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec 16, from the Guiceland
Chapel near Grapeland, with the Reverends A. S. Higginbotham and Leslie L.
Grounds officiating. Interment was in the Guiceland Cemetery. Pallbearers
were Jack Gibson Jr., Lonnell Gibson, Wayne Hale, Elbert Corbitt, Ed Sisson
and J. Wesley Jones.

William Andrew Killion

Funeral services for Mr. William Andrew Killion, 71, former resident of
Salmon, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, in the Guiceland Chapel near
Grapeland. Calvin Dickey and Oscar Locke officiated and burial was in the
Guiceland Cemetery.

Nephews of Mr. Killion were pallbearers.

Mr. Killion died following a short illness at 12:30 a.m. in a local
hospital.

Ben Lionel Keen

Funeral services for Mr. Ben Lionel Keen, 71, of Rt. 3 Grapeland, were held
at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Guiceland Chapel near Grapeland,
Rev. J. T. Riley and Rev. D. P. Worsham officiated, and burial was in the
Guiceland Cemetery.

Mr. Keen died at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 1892, in a Palestine hospitial,
following a long illness. He was born in Grapeland on Sept. 9, 1892, and
had moved back to Grapeland a few years ago, retiring after teaching school
for 35 years. He had also resided in Palestine for a number of years. Mr.
Keen was a member of the Cedar Bayou Masonic Lodge No 321, and a member of
the First Baptist Church of Grapeland.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Pearl Keen of Grapeland; two brothers, Byron
of Grapeland, and Elmo of Tyler; a sister, Mrs. Linnie Stovill of Elkhart;
and a number of nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Hassel and Foster.

Roger Arthur Dawes

Mr. Roger Arthur Dawes, 63, of 501 Third Ave. N., Texas City, died Sunday,
March 11, in Galveston.

Mr. Dawes was born May 6, 1909, in Crockett. He was a member of the
Presbyterian Church of Rosenberg.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with Rev. H. J. Rhodes, Jr. and Rev. W. Frank Gate officiating.
Interment was in Glenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Wert Lawson, Porter Sallas, Nat Patton, Jr., Travis Moore,
J. W. Hail and Ernest (Bud) Hale.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Tommy Grace Dawes of Alvin; three sons,
Roger Arthur Dawes II and Thomas C. Dawes both of Rosenberg, and Don Dawes
of Corpus Christi; three daughters, Mrs. Hoyt Tucker, Mrs. Guy Humphrey and
Mrs. Billy Ray Goodrum, all of Rosenberg; a brother, John Thomas Dawes of
Pampa; four sisters. Mrs. Kathryn Edlund of Miles City, Montana, Mrs. R.
LeMay and Mrs. Johnnie Lee Click, bother of Crockett, and Mrs. Betty West

Miss Flora Dawes

Miss Flora Dawes, 64, of Crockett died in Rusk Saturday, Dec. 26. Miss
Dawes was born Oct 17, 1900, in Houston County. She was a member of the
Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, from the Callaway
Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Andrew Byers officiating. Burial was in Glenwood
Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jim Hail, Wert Lawson, Nat Patton, Charles English, and
Grady Blalock.

Survices include two brothers, J. T. Dawes of Pampa and R. A. Dawes of
Texas City four sisters, Mrs. S. R. LeMay of Dallas, Mrs. Homer West of New
Waverly, Mrs. Jim click of Lovelady, and Mrs. L. W. Edlund of Miles City,
Mont.

Hubert Clark Dawes

Mr. Hubert Clark Dawes, 45, of Houston, died Wednesday night, Jan. 26, when
his car overturned about 10 miles east of Crockett on State Highway 7.

A former vice president of the North Side State Bank of Houston, Mr. Dawes
ws born march 24, 1920, in DeKalb, Miss. He was a World War II veteran and
had lived in Houston 25 years.

Mr. Dawes was dead on arrival at a Crockett hospital. Highway Patrolman
Roger Kucera said the cause of the accident was unknown. Mr. Dawes, alone
in his car, was headed east toward Lufkin when his car left the pavement
and overturned.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan, 28, in Houston, with Mr.
J. B. Jordan officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery in
Houston.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Patricia Dawes of Houston; two sons, James
William and Joel Clark, both of Houston, parents, Mr. and Mrs. James M.
Dawes of DeKalf, Miss.; two brothers, Herbert Harold of Booneville, Miss.,
and Fred of Centerville, Ala.

Mrs. Emma Dawson

Mrs. Emma Dawson, 83, of Crockett, died Sunday in a local hospital.

Mrs. Dawson was born in Houston County Sept, 18, 1886. She was a member of
the First Methodist Church of Crockett.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with Rev. Jim Rhodes of the First Methodist Church and Rev. E. P.
Ramsey of the First Baptist Church officiating.

Burial was in the Rice Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Howard Hobson, Tom Hobson, Jay Gibson, Reginald Hobson,
Keith Hobson, Bill Blalock, Preston Blalock, Dr. John L. Dean Jr., and
Eldredge Capps.

Survivors include three sons, Dooley Dawson of Crockett, W. H. Dawson of
Richmond and Dr. J. t. Dawson of Longview; a brother, Grady Blalock of
Crockett; a sister, Mrs. Callie Ellisor of Trinity; nine grand children;
and four great grandchildren.

CROCKETT - Mrs. Emma Dawson, mother of Houston Bank of the Southwest
executive Dooley Dawson, died in a hospital here Sunday after a brief
illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a/m. Monday at Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with burial in the Rice Cemetery.

Survivors include her three sons, Dooley Dawson, W. H. Dawson of Richmond
and Dr. J. T. Dawson of Longview, a brother Grady Blalock of Crockett, one
sister, Mrs. Callie Ellisor of Trinity, nine grandchildren and four great
grandchildren.

Thomas E. (Dude) Dawson

Mr. Thomas E. (Dude) Dawson, 55, of Crockett, died Wednesday, May 24, in a
Houston hospital following a short illness.

Mr. Dawson was a senior inspector for the Texas State Department of
Agriculture. He was born June 28, 1911, in Houston County. He was a member
of the First Baptist Church, the Knights of Pythias, and the Crockett Lions
Club.

Funeral services were held in the First Baptist Church of Crockett at 5
p.m. Friday, with Rev. E. P. Ramsey of the First Baptist Church, and REv.
L. B. Broach of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in
Evergreen Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Vernon Gayle, T. D. Craddock, Herbert Callaway, C. N.
Sullivan, Marcus Mason, Gail King Jr., Jack Vance, Ray Cure, Dr. Lyle
Thomasson and E. D. Henry.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Zona Dawson of Crockett, a son; Tom Dawson
of San Antonio; a daughter, Miss Marsha Dawson of Houston; his mother, Mrs.
Emma Dawson of Crockett; three brothers, Oran (Dooley) Dawson of Crockett,
W. H. Dawson of Richmond and Dr. Jamie Dawson of Longview.

Mrs. ilma Finch Dawson, 59, of Austonio, died at the Houston County Hospital
Tuesday, Feb. 13.

Mrs. Dawson was born March 31, 1913, in Houston County. She was a member of
the Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with Rev. Joe Gilchrist and Rev. Weldon Sanders officiating. Burial
was in the Creek Cemetery at Austonio.

Pallbearers were Cecil D. Ferguson, Frank S. Ferguson, Douglas L. Ferguson,
Johnson Lundy, Kit Sruggs and Lee Lundy.

Survivors include the husband, Jack Dawson of Austonio; a daughter, Mrs.

James Edwin Dawson, Jr.

Mr. James Edwin Dawson, Jr. 43, of Crockett, died Friday in a local
hospital, following a sudden illness.

Mr. Dawson, a farmer and rancher, was born in Houston County Sept. 10,
1924. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crockett.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church,
with Rev. E. P. Ramsey Jr. officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial
Park.

Pallbearers were Jake Caprielian, W. A. Turner, Dr. L. W. Thomasson, J. E.
Hail, Shelor Edmiston and Barber Tunstall.

Survivors include the wife Mrs. Polly Dawson; a daughter, Polly Ann Dawson;
two sons, Jimmy and Paul Dawson, all of Crockett; his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Edwin Dawson of Porte Springs.

R. L. (Bob) Dean

Dean Rites Held Saturday

Funeral services for R. L. (Bob) Dean, 97, of Crockett, were held Saturday
with the Rev. E. D. Surratt pastor of Crockett Calvary Baptist Church,
officiating.

Burial was in the Fields Chapel Cemetery, Palestine.

Mr. Dean was born January 3, 1875 in Palestine to the late Pink Dean and
Mrs. Mary Lively Dean and he died Friday, October 20, at 8:00 a.m. in a
Grapeland hospital. Before retiring and moving to Crockett, Mr. Dean lived
in Palestine, Elkhart and Grapeland and engaged in harming.

Survivors: wife, Mrs. Maudie Staples Dean, Crockett; several nieces and
nephews.

Mrs. Emma Callaway Dean

Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Callaway Dean, 98, were held at 2 p.m.
Wednesday in the Antioch Baptist Church of Lovelady.

Rev. Edgar Dodd officiated. Burial was in the Antioch in Lovelady.

Mrs. Dean, a resident of Lovelady, died Feb. 16 in Houston County Hospital
Hospital. She was born Feb. 27, 1876 in Houston County and resided here all
her life. She was a member of the Antioch, Baptist Church.

Survivors include tow son, Kent Dean and F. T. Dean, both of Lovelady; two
daughters, Mrs. Irene Atkinson of Nacogdoches, and Mrs. Beatrice Hale of
Lovelady; 17 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and ten great-great
grandchildren.

Mrs. Pina Deauman

Mrs. Pina Deauman, 89, of Houston, died Monday in a Houston nursing home.

Mrs. Deauman was born in Tennessee, but had lived in Houston most of her
life. she was a member of the Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Waller Funeral home
Chapel, with graveside services following at 4 p.m. in the Sunset Memorial
Cemetery at Nacogdoches, with Mr. Tom Roberts Officiating.

Survivors include two sons, Cecil Deauman of Crockett and Grady Higgins of
Beaumont; a daughter, Mrs. G. L. Johnson of Houston; a brother, two
sisters, 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces
and nephews.
