Mrs. Jennie Eugenia Davis

Mrs. Jennie Eugenia Davis, 72, of Rt. 1, Kennard, died in a local hospital
Thursday, Jan 14, following a brief illness. Mrs. Davis was born in Houston
County July 2, 1892

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday from the Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with Rev. Roscoe Wells of Houston officiating. Burial was in the
Hill Cemetery near Pennington.

Pallbearers were J. W. Westbrook, Cleveland Hill, Dean Hill, Paul Hill,
James Hill and E. D. Troutman.

Survivors include the husband, Falcon Davis of Kennard; four sons, Ralph
and Oren Davis, both of Houston, and Hulon and Cleon Davis both of Kennard; five brothers Curtis Hill of Groveton, Fred Hill of Crockett, Tom Hill of Center Point, Virgil and Jim Hill, both of Kennard; seven sisters, Mrs.
Willie We4stbrook, Mrs. Tiny Troutman, Mrs. Grace Baker and Mrs. Effie
Dominy, all of Houston, Miss Cornia Hill and Mrs. Net Westbrook, both of
Kennard, and Mrs. Mary Goodman of Groveton' nine grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren.

Ernie B. Davis

Mr. Ernie B. Davis, 18, of Trinity, died some time late Friday night. He
had lived in Trinity all of his life and was a member of the Calvary
Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held from the Waller Funeral Chapel in Trinity at
2:30 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. David Cordell officiating. Burial was in
the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include his, Mrs. Nora Thornton, of Houston; three brothers,
Stacy, David and Sammy Thornton, all of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Martha
Ann Lee and Mrs. Edna Doughty, both of Houston; a number of aunts and
uncles.

James Bean Davis

Mr. James Bean Davis, 30, died around 9 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. Davis had lived in Crockett for the last year.

Funeral services were held from the Weches Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. R. J. Rodgers officiating. Burial was in the Weches Cemetery.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Doris Eloise Davis and two sons, James
Howard and Gregory Earl, all of Crockett

Killed In Sunday Crash
A two-truck collision Sunday night at 8:50 p.m. on the Centerville highway,
took the lives of two men and injured the wife of one.

James B. Davis, 30, of Crockett, was killed when the Huntingburg Furniture
Co. truck he was driving, and International tractor and trailer rig,
collided with a panel truck driven by Albert G. Hudson, Jr., 37, a colored
man from Dallas.

Hudson was also killed. His wife, Claretta Hudson, suffered a broken leg,
but was released from a Crockett hospital later Sunday night after
treatment.

Hudson, a truck driver for Acel Delivery Service of Dallas, was traveling
west with a load of furniture from Huntingburg's Crockett plant, Timely of
Texas. The collision took place on the rain slick Centerville highway,
about 21 miles west of Crockett.

The accident was investigated by Texas Highway Patrolman Bill Dean of
Buffalo. He reported the two vehicles collided left front to left front. A
gas tank, commonly known as a "saddle tank," burst and ignited. Davis was
burned along with the truck and furniture. It is not known whether Davis
was killed by the collision or the fire. Dean said he would file no charges.

D. C. (Bud) Bretz, manager of Timely of Texas, estimated the value of the
truck at about $15,000 and the value of the furniture at about $5,000.
Bretz said Davis had been an employee of furniture plant for approximately
six to eight weeks.

Both vehicles are at Goolsby's Service Station in Centerville.

Davis, a resident of Crockett for the past year, is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Doris Eloise Davis, and two sons, James Howard and Gregory Earl.

Funeral services were held from the Weches Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. R. J. Rodgers officiating. Interment was in the Weches

John Bryant Davis

Mr. John Bryant Davis 68, of Nogales Prairie, died Tuesday morning at his
home.

Mr. Davis had lived in Trinity County most of his life, was a retired
Salvation Army employee, and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Calvary Baptist
Church., Nogales Prairie, with the Rev. James A. Fletcher and Capt.
Robinson officiating. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Lillie Davis of Nogales Prairie; his
step-mother, Mrs. John W. Davis of Nogales Prairie; three brothers, Chester
Davis of Lufkin and Dailey and Barner Davis, both of Nogales Prairie; a
sister, Mrs. Annie Belle Milligan of Centralia.

Mrs. Willie Frances Davis

Mrs. Willie Frances Davis, 84, of Nogalus Prairie died tuesday afternoon in
a local hospital.

Mrs. davis was born in Limestone county, but was a longtime resident of
Trinity County. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Nogalus
Prairie.

Funeral services were held at 3p.m. Wednesday in the Calvary Baptist Church
of Nogalus Prairie, with Rev. James Fletcher and Rev. A. W. Ludlow
officiating. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, Chester Davis of Lufkin, Dailey Davis of
Groveton and Barner Davis of Kennard; a daughter, Mrs. Annie Belle Milligan
of Apple Springs; a brother , Joe Williams of Apple Springs; a sister, Mrs.
Elphia Tarver of Dallas; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchild; one
great-great grandchild; also several nieces and nephews.

Arthur L. Davis

Mr. Arthur L. Davis, 73, a resident of Port Arthur for 36, years, died
Sunday, following a sudden illness, in a Port Arthur hospital.

Mr. Davis, a retired owner of Davis Pie Co., was a member of the First
Nazarene Church. he was a native of Bon Wier.

Funeral services were held from the Nunnelly-Stanley "Chapel of the Chimes" at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Frank Kemendo officiating, assisted by the Rev. John L. Harrison. Burial was in Oak Bluff Memorial Park, in Port Neches.

Pallbearers were memers of the Men's Bible Class -- P. A. Olive, P. A.
Olive, Jr.; Vernon Coody, P. S. Norton, H. E. Whatley and C. R. Grimes.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Era M. Davis of Groves; two sons, Virgil
Davis of Port Arthur and Adrian Davis of Crockett; four brothers, Edward

Claude Davis

Mr. Claude Davis, 73, of Star Route 4, Kennard, died in Lufkin Memorial
Hospital Tuesday afternoon, April 7,

Mr. Davis was born in Trinity County and had lived in that county, around
Nogalus, all of his life. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church,
and was a veteran of World War I.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Calvary Baptist
Church at Nogalus Prairie, with Rev. James Fletcher and Rev. James Fletcher and Rev. Wayne Cook officiating. Burial was in the Nogalus Prairie
Cemetery.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Mary Etta Davis of Kennard; a brother,
Wilmer Taylor of Houston; a sister, Mrs. Reba Hallmark of Port Arthur; and
several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Jesse Sidney (Sid) Davis, 66, of Trinity, died Monday in Trinity.

Mrs. Ida Mae Davis

Mrs. Ida Mae Davis, 69, of Rt. 1, Crockett, died early Saturday morning in
a local hospital, after an extended illness.

Mrs. Davis was born in Houston County on july 2, 1901, and had made her
home herre for her entire lifetime. She was a member of the New Energy
Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the New Energy Methodist
Church. Interment was in the New Energy Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jimmy R. Potter, Joseph A. Crawford, Neil Sheridan Jr.,
Tommy Lockey, Hubert Parks and Neil Sheridan Sr.

Survivors include the husband, W. J. Davis of Crocket; a son, William T.

Rev. Robert Cecil Davis, 79, of Weches, passed away Sunday, July 30, in a
local hospital.

Rev. Davis had lived in Houston County for the past 15 years. He was a

Mr. Thomas Warren (Bill) Davis Sr.,, 72, of 4205 Pickfair, Houston, died
Sunday, Nov 19, in Houston.

Mr. Davis, a retired 30-year employee of Hughes Tool Co., was a member of
the Foy Lane Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Cade-Rothwell
Lodge No. 1151. AF & AM, and all Scottish Rite Bodies.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Settegast-Kopf Kirby
Drive Chapel in Houston, with Rev. Mike Sullivan officiating. Interment was

Robert Eugene Aiken

Funeral services for Robert Eugene Aiken, 75, retired printing official,
were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug 12, in Kiker-Warren Chapel with Dr.
Frank Charlton, pastor of St. Paul Methodist Church Officiating.

Burial was in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Aiken, former vice president and production manager of Abilene Printing
and Stationery, 218 Cedar, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 11, in Hendrick
Memorial Hospital.

His career of more than 50 years--41 of them with Abilene
Printing--terminated three years ago with his retirement.

Born April 5, 1889, at Henderson in East Texas, he began as a printer's
devil on his hometown paper, the Rusk County News. Before moving to Abilene 44 years ago, he worked on newspapers at Crockett (with his brother, the late W. W. (Uncle Billy) Aiken) and Coleman and Married Viola Simmons of Palestine in 1919.

His duties at Abilene Printing included supervision of the printing of
magazines for West Texas Utilities Co., West Texas Chamber of Commerce, and Paymaster Oil Mill Co.

Surviving are Mr. Aiken's wife; a daughter, Mrs. John L. Hart, of Abilene;
a sister Mrs. M. Y. Goudelock of Dallas; and three granchildren.

Carlos Robbins

Mr. Carlos Robbins, 89, died early Wednesday morning Sept. 9, in a local
hospital. Mr. Robbins, who had spent most of his life in Houston County,
was a member of the Methodist church.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Waller Funeral Home
Chapel, with Rev. Jewel Strong officiating. Burial was in the Rice
Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. W. J. Walker of Houston, and six

Mrs. Fannie D. Hollingsworth, 87, of Rt. 1, Lovelady died in a

William Charles Killgo

Mr. William Charles Gillgo, 30, of Rt. 1 Grapeland, died early Monday
morning in a Houston hospital. Mr. Killgo was born in Anderson County, but
had lived in Houston County the last 15 months. He was a member of the
Latexo Baptist Church and had served four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Cadmus.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Latexo Baptist
Church, with Rev. Terry Cashion and Rev. L. A. Sherman officiating. Burial
was in the Parker Cemetery near Grapeland.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Martha Ann Killgo of Latexo; a son,
William Charles Killgo Jr., of Latexo; his parents, James T. Killgo of
Huntsville and Mrs. L. F. King of Latexo; a brother, James A Killgo of

Henry J. Vickers

Mr. Henry J. Vickers, 55, of Houston, died Saturday in Corpus Christi,
following an automobile accident, Mr. Vickers was reared in Pennington and
had lived in Houston for the last 22 years. He was employed by the United
States post office in Houston as a mail carrier.

Funeral services were held in the Pennington Cemetery at 2 p.m. Tuesday,
with the Rev. Gordon Edwards officiating. Interment followed.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Loraine Vickers of Houston; a daughter,
Mrs. Patricia Phillips of Houston; two stepsons, Bob Isaacson of Houston
and Jack Isaacson of Dallas.

S. F. (Bud) Calhoun

Funeal services for Mr. S. F. (Bud) Calhoun, 89, of Palestine were held at
p.m. Wednesday at Bailey Memorial Chapel in Palestine with the REv. A. S.
Lee of Crockett officiating. Burial was in the Buffalo City Cemetery.

Mr. Calhoun, who formerly ran a store in Palestine, died at 7 a.m. Tuesday
at the Palestine Nursing Home. Born in Crockett, he had lived in Palestine
the last 17 years. He belonged to the Crockett Presbyterian Church and to
the Masonic Lodge in Crockett and to El Mina Shrine Temple in Galveston.

Survivors include the widow, and a son, O. C. Calhoun, both of Palestine;
two daughters, Mrs. Rugh Reed of Fairfield and Mrs. Melvin M. Davis of
Houston; six granchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
 

Tom G. Day

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Tom G. Day, 31, of Rt 5, Lufkin, were
held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Enon Cemetery in eastern Houston County. Rev.
O. P. Meador and Rev. Ronney Beams officiated, and burial was in the Enon
Cemetery.

Mr. Day was born in Ratcliff Oct. 20, 1932, and had lived in Houston County
most of his life before moving to Lufkin two years ago. He was a member of
the Baptist church and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
He was employed as a utility maintenance man at the Lufkin Foundry and
Machine Co. for two years. He was killed in a fall.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Lula C. Day; his mother, Mrs. W. L. Caples
of Jasper; a sister, Mrs. Mollie Lowery of Crockett; a stepbrother, Cecil
Caples of Jasper; a stepsister, Mrs. Nettie Luttrell of Crockett.

Pallbearers were James Evans, Raymond Carter, Sherwin Womack, Hurley Brown, Delton Holcombe, Jessie Hollcombe, James Davis, and R. C. Deal.
 

Sam Caskey

Funeral services for Mr. Sam Caskey, 82, of Rt. 3 Grapeland, were held
Saturday, Sept 12, at 2 p.m. in Guiceland Memorial Chapel, Salmon, with
James Mosley, Church of Christ minister, officiating. Burial followed in
Guiceland Cemetery.

Pallbearers were George Gaines, Jimmy Gaines, Gilbert Wallace, Aubrey
mosley, Jimmy Garner, and H. D. (Buck) Denman.

A native of Houston County, Mr. Caskey was born Aug, 16, 1882, where he
spent his entire life with the exception of 14 years in Hale County. A
retired farmer, he was a member of the Church of Christ. He died Thursday,
Sept. 10, at 8:30 a.m. in a Grapeland Hospital, following a long illness.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Willie Caskey of Rt. 3, Grapeland; seven
sons, Marvin Caskey of Vernon, Wayne Caskey of LaMarque, Edwin Caskey of Canyon, Milo and Buddy Caskey, both of Tyler, Flavil Caskey of Big Spring, and Amos Caskey of Palestine; three daughters, Mrs. Nellie Mason of
Leander, Mrs. Inez Skipworth of Kress, Mrs. Dorothy Risinger of Woodville;
four stepchildren, Mrs. Pauline Underwood of Dumas, Carl Bedford of Reseda, Calif., Clyde Bedford of Grapeland, and Mrs. Helen Townsend of Dayton, Ohio; 28 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Jerdie Herod Finch

Funeral services for Mrs. Jerdie Herod Finch, 73, of Rt. 1, Grapeland, will
be held Thursday, Sept 17, at 2 p.m. in the First Methodist Church of
Grapeland, with Rev. Jesse Roberson and Rev. Collin Farr officiating.
Interment will be in the Parker Cemetery, west of Grapeland.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

A native of Houston County, Mrs. Finch was born in Grapeland on April 5,
1891, where she spent her entire life. A Methodist, she ws the widow of
Simon Edward Finch, who died Feb. 6, 1955. She died Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. in a Palestine hospital following a long illness.

Survivors include two sons, Troy of Pasadena, and Roland of Pleasanton;
three daughrers, Mrs. Calvin Brown of elkhart, Mrs. Roy McDonald of
Houston, and Mrs. Morris Goodnight of Grapeland; two sisters, Mrs. Harvey
Collins of Grapeland and Mrs. Eunice Caskey of Crane; nine grandchildren;
three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Remains will be at Hassell and Foster, Grapeland.

Mr. Charles Reuben Kyle, 62, of Pasadena, died in a Pasadena hospital
Wednesday, June 16, following a short illness.

Mr. Kyle, born in Houston County Sept, 7, 1902, was a member of the
Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the callaway Memorial
Chapel, with the Rev. A. S. Higginbotham of Crockett officiating. Burial
was in the Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Maples, Lacy Bartee, Hollis Huntsman, Glover Marks
and O. W. Corbitt.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Lillie Mae Kyle of Pasadena; two sons,
Robbie Kyle of Houston and Billy Reuben Kyle of Pasadena; a daughter, Mrs. Eva Nell Page of Pasadena; a brother , K. D. Kyle of Angleton; four
sisters, Mrs. Emma Maples of Crockett, Mrs. Artie Huntsman of Angleton,

Mrs. Hallie Nora Marler, 83, of Trinity, died in a Trinity hospital Monday,
following a long illness.

Mrs. Marler, born Nov. 6, 1881, in Trinity County, was a member of the
Dorcas Wills Baptist Church of Trinity.

Funeral services were held in the Dorcas Wills Baptist Church at 2 p.m.
Wednesday with the pastor, the Rev. J. R. Reedy, officiating. Burial was in
the Salem Cemetery near Weldon.

Pallbearers were H. H. Arnold, Robert Dixon, Allen Chamberlain, Z. F.
Wiggins, Bobby Skipper and C. D. Roberts.

Survivors include a son, Robert Marler of Hazel Park, Mich.; one
grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

William Henderson Holcomb Sr.

Mr. William Henderson Holcomb Sr., 72, of Crockett died Saturday in a local
hosptial, following an extended illness. Mr. Holcomb, a farmer and rancher,
was born in Augusta Nov. 25, 1892. He was a member of the Augusta Masonic Lodge and of Davy Crockett Lodge No. 193, Knights of Phythias.

Funeral services were held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel with Rev. E. P. Ransey, pastor of the First Baptist Church

sons, W. H. Holcomb Jr., of Crockett and Larry Holcomb of Groves; four
daughters, Mrs. Harriet Skipper of Trinity, Mrs. Ann Moore of Crockett,
Mrs. Billie Leediker of Humble and Mrs. Hazel Jo Atkinson of Houston; a
brother, Roy Holcomb of Grapeland; five sisters, Mrs. Ava Lively of
Grapeland, Mrs. Marybelle Schulze, Mrs. Walter Zabriskie an dMrs. Ray H.
James, all of Port Arthur and Mrs. Harry O. Leigh of Huntsville; 12
granchildren.

Mrs. Ruby Burton

Mrs. Ruby Gilbert Burton, 65, of Houston, died in a Houston hospital
Tuesday morning.

A former resident of Houston County, Mrs. Burton was a member of the
Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held at the Boulevardd Cullen Chapel at 3:45 p.m.
Wednesday, with Rev. Don Johnson officiating. Burial was in Brookside
Cemetery.

Pallbearers were L. W. Stuessel, D. D. Austin Jr.,A. H. Burton, P. R.
Burton, H. K. Sanders and E. H. Bethany.

Survivors include the Husband, Glen B. Burton of Houston; a son, Gilvert
Burton of Beaumont; a daughter, Mrs. Albert Michael of Houston; a brother,
Joe Gilbert of Nacogdoches; a sister, Mrs. Steve Milliken of Crockett; and
several grandchildren.
 

Winston O. Kirkland

Mr. Winston O. Kirland, 51, of 1212 East Houston Ave. died Firday afternoon
at his home.

Mr. Kirkland was born in Trinity County but had resided in Crockett for the
past several years. Mr. Kerkland was a land surveyor. He was a member of
the First Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge of Trinity, Elks Lodge of Crockett,
and was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Frances Kirkland of Crockett; two
daughters, Miss Mary Kirkland and Miss Suzy Kirkland, both of Crockett; two
brothers, E. H. Kirkland of Houston and R. W. Kirkland of Point Blank; two
sisters, Mrs. C. G. Duff of Trinity and Mrs. Harry Save of Trinity.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 20, at 2:30 p.m. in the First
Baptist Church with the Rev. E. P. Ramsey and the Rev. J. R. Reedy of
Trinity officiating interment was in the Evergreen Memorial Park.

Abe Inman

Mr. Abe Inman, 83, of 510 Dell Court, died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 16,
in a Houston hospital.

Mr. Inman was a member of Painter local 130. He had resided in Trinity for
many years before moving to Houston.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Ida Inman of Houston; a son, A. F. Inman of
Houston; a brother, J. P. Inman of Texas City; three grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services wre held Thursday, Jun 17m at 2:30 p.m. in the
Cedar Grove Cemetery in Trinity with the Rev. Donald R. Brumfield
officiating.

Services Set Today For

Oilman R. E. Lee

Last rites for Ronald E. Lee, 54, of 1 Briarwood Court in River Oaks will
be conducted at 4 p.m. today in St. Luke's Methodist Church.

Lee, co-partner with two brothers in operation of the independent oil
producing firm of Lee Bros. and son of a founder of Yount-Lee Oil Co. at
Spindletop, died Thursday after a heart attack at his ranch near Reagan
Wells in Uvalde County.

The funeral service will be conducted by the pastor, Dr. J. Kenneth
Shamblin, assisted by Dr. Durwood Fleming, president of Snothwestern
University of Georgetown.

Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery under direction of George H. Lewis &
Son.

Lee, with his brothers Donald A., a twin, and W. howard, had interests
apart from their oil business in industry, banking and hotels. The
partnership owned Town Houses in Houston, New Orleans, Lafayette, La., and Farmington, N.M.

Ronald Lee was born in Sour Lake, Hardin County, on Aug. 17, 1914, the son
of W. E. and Mary Margaret (McGuigan) Lee. He attended the University of
Texas and Rice Institute and joined the Navy in World War II. He was
discharged in 1945 and returned to Houston and the oil business.

He was board chairman of Quality Electric Steel Casting Co., president of
American Southwest Corp., and director of Spring Branch Bank.

He held membership in Houston County Club, River Oaks Country Club,
Petroleum Club. Houston Club and Lakewood Yacht Club.

Besides his brothers, survivors are his widow, the former Katherine Pillot
of Houston; a son, Ronald Jr., a student in Whorton School of Commerce of
the University of Pennsylvania; a daughter, Mrs. Henry Barnes of Austin,
and two sisters, Mrs. Glen McCarty of Houston and Mrs. Hub E. Isaacks of
Fort Worth.
