Lovelady, Tex., March 1. 1889 --W. F. RICH, who fell unconscious while working at his bench a few days ago, died on Saturday morning and was buried by masonic order here on Sunday

 

John S. Brown, Crockett Pioneer, Passes Away

Crockett, Houston Co., Texas, Jan. 30, 1928
John S. Brown, 87, Confederate veteran, resident of Houston county for fifty years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. C. Merriwether, Sunday night. Mr. Brown was an extensive cotton planter and progressive farmer for many years.

He is survived by three sons, J. S. Merriwether of Crockett, C. T. Merriwether of Kennard and Frank Merriwether of Groveton; two daughters, Mrs. Merriwether and Mrs. John Harkins of Kennard. Funeral serviced were held Monday afternoon, with burial in Cedar Point Cemetery. He was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Mr. Spears, pastor of the Crockett Presbyterian Church officiated.

H. W. THOMPSON

Lovelady, Tex., Sept. 8. 1888 --H. W. THOMPSON died in this town on Saturday evening at 6 o'clock after an illness. He was an energetic educator and had charge of the Lovelady school. He was severely injured in a passenger wreck near Temple about the 26th of December last, from which he never recovered.

Hon. R. E. CORRY

Livingstone, Tex., June 19.--Hon. R. E. CORRY of Houston county died at this place this evening at 1:15 o'clock. Mr. CORRY was a citizen of this place for several years, and had made many friends here who sympathize with his bereaved wife and mourn the loss of a true friend. He will be taken to Crockett to-morrow for burial.

Dr. A. B. DENTON

Lovelady, Tex., Sept. 24.--Dr. A. B. DENTON of Weldon, twelve miles west of this place, died on Saturday and was buried by the masons Sunday afternoon. Dr. DENTON was very well known in several counties, was a successful practitioner and was also engaged in the mercantile business at Weldon, in this county. He leaves a host of friends to mourn his untimely death.

Obituary B. F. EDENS

 

Grapeland, Tex., Feb. 3.--B. F. EDENS, one of the first citizens of this place and one of Houston counties best, most substantial and energetic citizens, died here this morning at 7:20 o'clock.

 

He was born and reared in this county and was at his death about 45 years old. He was one of the oldest and best families of the county, and was always one of the foremost in progress and development. He was broad-hearted and generous and has ever been one of the benefactors of the county since entering into the activities of life, which he did early.

 

He leaves a sadly bereaved wife and two daughters besides many relatives and friends to mourn his death.

Obituary Mrs. Anna M. MARTIN.

Grapeland, Tex., March 9.--The remains of Mrs. Anna M. MARTIN, the wife of Col. J. A. MARTIN, arrived here this morning from Paine's store, Hunt county. Mrs. MARTIN was raised in this neighborhood and had many warm friends who sympathize with Col. MARTIN in his great loss. The funeral will take place to-morrow at Pleasant Hill.
