Julius Alton Ferguson
Mr. Julian Alton Ferguson, 76, of Crockett, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27,
in the Whitehall Nursing Home.
Mr. Ferguson, a retired farmer, was a life long resident of Houston County.
He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and a member of the K. P.
Lodge.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, in the Waller
Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. E. D. Sarratt and Rev. E. P. Ramsey
officiating. Interment was in the Percilla Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, James Ferguson of Crockett; three daughters, Mrs.
Milton Lowe of Fort Worth, Mrs. Margaret Gant of Toehatchi, New Mexico, and
Mrs. Max Petty of Crockett; four brothers, John T. Ferguson of Harper,
Herman Ferguson of League City, Hugh Ferguson of Damon, and Oren Ferguson
of Alvin; two sisters, Mrs. Orvilla Bolin of Alvin and Mrs. Beulah Mae
snell of Houston; 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

N. O. Ferrell
Funeral services for N. O. Ferrell, 72, of Percilla were held Saturday,
Oct. 30, at 2 P.M. in Evergreen Chapel, Percilla, with Rev. W. H. Wieting
and Calvin Dickey Officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
Nephews served as pallbearers.
Native of Stephenville, Texas, Mr. Ferrell was born Nov. 8, 1892, and had
spent most of his life in Houston County. Member of the Methodist church,
he died Wednesday, Oct., 27, at 9:45 P.M. in his home.
Survivors: wife, Mrs. Evel Ferrell, Percilla; a son, Carmon Ferrell of Fort
Smith, Arkansas; two daughters, Mrs. Maxine Callaway of Arlington, and Mrs.
Winnie Melson of Vandenburg AFB, California; four brothers, Rube Ferrell of
Waco, Virgil Ferrell of Houston, Calvin Ferrell of Maydelle, and Clarence
Ferrell of Palestine; five sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Bowman of Jacksonville,
Mrs. Vora Watson of Maydelle, Mrs. Nannie Watts of Terrell, Mrs. Evel Le
Rodgers and Mrs. Flora Kirdwood, both of Palestine; 12 grandchildren; 1
great grandchild.

Mrs. Sarah S. Ferrell
Mrs. Sarah S. Ferrell, 76, of Rt. 1, Crockett, passed away Sunday, Jan. 2,
in a Crockett hospital.
Mrs. Ferrell was a lifelong resident of Crockett. She was a member of the
Shady Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Waller Chapel, with
Rev. R. J. Marshall and Rev. W. H. Collins officiating. Interment was in
the New Energy Cemetery.
Survivors include the husband, James Ansel Ferrell of Crockett; two sons,
Carl Ferrell of Houston and Leo Ferrell of Crockett; three daughters, Mrs.
Ruby Marsh of Houston, Mrs. Irene Sherman of Palestine and Mrs. Annie Mae
Woolley of Crockett; a brother, Louis Dear of Henderson; three sisters,
Mrs. Johnie Johnson, Mrs. J. O. McLean and Mrs. George Lane, all of
Crockett; 10 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great great
grandchildren; also a number of nieces and nephews.

Services Held For Grady Finch
Grady Finch
Funeral services for Grady Finch, 72, of Route 1 Box 208, Grapeland, were
held Thursday, January 24, at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist
Church, Grapeland, with the Rev. Billie B. Bonner and Marvin Willis
officiating. Burial was in the Parker Cemetery, west of Grapeland with
members of Grapeland Masonic Lodge No. 473 serving as pallbearers and in
charge of graveside services. Arrangements were by Hassell & Foster.
Pallbearers were Weldon Kerby, Grady Owens, Harold Cook, Jimmie foster, Fred
Thomas and Col. S. N. Boykin. All Masons were honorary pallbearers.
Lifelong resident of Grapeland, Mr. Finch was born August 14, 1901 to the
late Richard Finch and Rhoda Ann Baker Finch, and he died Tuesday, January
22, at 10:25 p.m. in the Grapeland Community Memorial Hospital following a
long illness. Prior to retiring, he operated Finch's Washateria in
Grapeland. Member of the First United Methodist Church, Grapeland, he was
also affiliated with Grapeland Lodge No. 473 AF & AM and Trinity Chapter
No. 4 RAM, both of Crockett.
Survivors: wife, Mrs. Maude Chaffin Finch, Grapeland; two sons, Grady
Finch, Jr., of Daisetta and C. W. (Pete) Finch of Lufkin; a stepson, Harold
Skidmore of Charleston, S. C.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Troy (Treva) Finch
of Pasadena, and Mrs. Jean Trahan of Beaumont; a brother, E. L. Ginch of
Houston; two grandchildren, Maryanna Finch of Tyler, and Grady Alvin Finch
III of Daisetta; 6 step grandchildren.

Services Held For Mrs. W. W. Finch, 80
Mrs. W. W. Finch
Funeral services for Mrs. W. W. Finch, age 80, of 625 N. Main Street,
Grapeland were held at 2 P.M. Sunday, May 5, in the First Baptist church,
Grapeland. Rev. Bland Kerby officiated and burial was in the Parker
Cemetery, west of Grapeland.
Mrs. Finch died following a sudden illness Saturday, May 4, at the home of
a daughter, Mrs. M. A. Gibson in New London. Born in Alabama on July 1,
1882, she had been a resident of Grapeland for a number of years and was a
member of the First Baptist Church, Grapeland.
Survivors are one son, H. O. Finch of McCarney; three daughters, Mrs. W. F.
Caskey of Conroe, Mrs. M. A. Gibson of New London, Mrs. P. H. Wohford of
Daisetta; two brothers, Cary and Bill Bridges, both of Grapeland. Mrs. Erie
Gammage of Elkhart; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great
great grandchildren.

Mr. Wesley Webster Finch
Funeral services for Mr. Wesley Webster Finch, 79 of Grapeland, were held
at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan 20, in the First Baptist Church of Grapeland. Rev.
Bland Kerby officiated and burial was in the Parker Cemetery, near
Grapeland.
Pallbearers were Mahlon Wright, Graton Streetman, Ed Shaw, Odell McKenzie,
Grady Finch, Lewis Garrett, Preston Bridges, and Troy Finch.
Mr. finch died following a sudden illness at 1 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at his
home. A lifelong resident of Houston County, he was born on Dec. 14, 1882.
A retired ginner, Mr. Finch had served as the justice of the peace in
Grapeland for the past several years. He was a member of the First Baptist
Church, Grapeland, and a member of the Woodmen of the World.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Annie Finch of Grapeland; one son, H. O. Finch
of McCamey; three daughters, Mrs. W. F. Caskey of Columbus, Mrs. M. A.
gibson of New London, Mrs. P. H. Wohlford of Daisetta; five grandchildren;
five great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Mrs. Emily Joyce Fishburn
Mrs. Emily Joyce Fishburn, 28, of Houston, passed away in Austin Saturday,
Sept. 25,
Mrs. Fishburn was a lifelong resident of Houston. She was a member of the
Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Waller Chapel, with
Rev. E. P. Ramsey officiating. Interment was in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Larry L. Dunn of Houston; three daughters, Miss
Yolanda Faye Winthrop of Houston, Miss Joyce Lanell Windrop of Lufkin and
Miss Sandra Lynn Fishburn of Kansas; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otis L.
Schumann of Houston; four brothers, Otis Lee, Jr., Henry C. Michael D., and
Walter P. Schumann, all of Houston; a sister, Mrs. William Arnold of
Houston; grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. C. C. davis of Crockett; also several
nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dewey Dudley Fisher
Mr. Dewey Dudley Fisher, 41, of 16820 Avenue B, Channelview, passed away
Saturday, July 15, in Trinity.
Mr. Fisher was an insurance agent of American National Insurance Co. He was
a member of the Church of Christ, and a veteran of World War II.
The remains were taken overland to Earthman's Funeral Home in Baytown for
services Monday at 3 p.m. in the Channelview Church of Christ, with Mr.
oscar Allen officiating. Interment was in the White Cemetery.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Retha Fisher of Channelview; three sons,
Dewey Jr., Randy and Terry Fisher, all of Channelview; a daughter, Miss
Kathy Fisher of Channelview; and three sisters, Mrs. Iris Montague of New
Orleans, Mrs. Christi Dickson of Franklinton, La., and Mrs. Faye Alford of
Channelview.

Rites Held For Mrs. Fitchett
Mrs. Jewel Fitchett
Funeral services for Mrs. Jewell Fitchett, 79, of 109 N. College,
Grapeland, were held Thursday, November 29, at 3:00 p.m. in the First
United Methodist Church, Grapeland, with the Rev. Billie B. Bonner and
Calvin Dickey officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Percilla,
under the direction of Hassell & Foster.
Lifelong resident of Houston County, Mrs. Fitchett was born at Percilla on
January 6, 1894 to the late Mills Adams and Mrs. Ann Elizabeth Young Adams,
and she died Wednesday, November 26, at 7:55 a.m. in a Palestine nursing
home following a long illness. She was a member of the First Methodist
Church, Grapeland, and the widow of Seth Fitchett, who preceded her in
death on march 8, 1946.
Survivors: a daughter, Mrs. Wessie Mills Cliburn, Grapeland; a sister, Mrs.
Annie Shaw of Houston, two grandsons, Jimmy Cliburn of Houston, and Mike
Cliburn of Grapeland; numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ruby Shaw Flagg
Mrs. Ruby Shaw Flagg, 72, of Longview, died Feb. 21, at her home in
Longview following a short illness.
Funeral services were held form the Lovelady Church of Christ at 2 p.m.
Feb. 23, with Mr. Darryl W. Pringle officiating. Interment was in the
Lovelady Cemetery and pallbearers were John J. Shaw, Avery Jones, E. A.
Gregg, Elmer Speer, Thomas Ham and Jim Goodwin.
Mrs. Flagg is survived by a son, Hugh Flagg of Lovelady; two sisters, Miss
Cora Shaw of Lovelady, and Mrs. Norma Bailey of Corpus Christi.
Born on Nov. 6, 1891, in Lovelady, Mrs. Flagg was a member of the Church of
Christ.

Mrs. Edna Adele Flanagan
Mrs. Edna Adele Flanagan, 51, died of a heart attack at her home in
Crockett Tuesday. Mrs. Flanagan, born Sept. 23, 1913, in Houston County,
was a member of the Gerogia Camp Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Georgia Camp Baptist
Church near Austonio, with Rev. G. A. Johnson of Livingston officiating.
Burial was in the Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lyle Stubbs, John Scott, Miner Smith, Charles Piland,
Jesse Stephens and Dub Jenkins.
Survivors include the husband, Bill Flanagan of Crockett; a daughter, Mrs.
Barbara Commander of Nacogdoches; five sons, Bill Flanagan Jr., and Albert
Flanagan, both of Houston, Johnny, Ricky and Larry Flanagan, all of
Crockett; three sisters, Mrs. N. E. Hamlin of Crockett, Mrs. Bill Tate of
Houston and Mrs. Bill Pense of Tracy, Calif; a brother, G. C. Smith of
Crockett; and four grandchildren.

Willie J. (Bill) Flanagan
Mr. Willie J. (Bill) Flanagan, 61, of Nacogdoches, died Sunday night in a
Lufkin hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Flanagan was born in Panola County on Oct. 27, 1908, but had live din
Crockett and Houston County for about 40 years, before moving to
Nacogdoches about four years ago. He was a member of the Georgia Camp
Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with Rev. Albert Higginbotham officiating. Burial was in the Creek
Cemetery, near Austonio.
Survivors include five sons, Bill Flanagan Jr. of Houston, John and Albert
Flanagan, both of Crockett, and Richard and Larry Flanagan, both of
Nacogdoches; a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Monk of Nacogdoches; four sisters,
Mrs. Sara Scott of Rosharon, Mrs. Lottie Mann of Diboll, Mrs. Esther
Cherry of Trinity and Mrs. Louise Williams of Crockett; a brother, Nathan
Flanagan of Fort Worth; and seven grandchildren.

Former Resident Buried At Denton
James Howard Floyd
Funeral services were held last Wednesday for James Howard Floyd, 24, who
was killed in a one car accident Saturday night, January 22, near Joplin,
Missouri.
Born in Grapeland Aug. 7, 1941, Floyd was the son of W. Howard Floyd and
Ruth Howard Floyd of West Plains, Missouri. He was a 1959 graduate of West
Plains High School and in 1964 received a degree in engineering from the
University of Missouri.
He later entered miltary service and was stationed at Fort Knox, Ky. At the
time of his death he was a plant engineer for Pet Milk Company at Siloam
Springs, Arkansas.
Surviving beside his parents is a brother, Dee Floyd who lives in Dallas
and his grandfather, Lucius P. Floyd of Denton, Texas.
Following the Wednesday services at West Plains, the body was taken to
Denton where services were held Thursday at 2 PM in Carroll-Goen Chapel.
Burial was in the Old Fellow cemetery at Denton.
Relatives attending the services at Denton were Mr. and Mrs. John Looker of
Woodsboro, Clifford Howard of Victoria, Mrs. Rosalie Brandstetter of
Rosenburg, Mrs. Lucille Rester of Austin, Jrs. Don Copeland and son, Tom,
of Clarksville, Mrs. Horace Jones and Mrs. Joe Pridgen and son, Bob, of
Grapeland.

Mrs. Neva Smith Foley
Mrs. Neva Smith Foley, of Cedar Hill Farms, Crockett, passed away Thursday
morning, June 3, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Foley had resided in Crockett for the past 12 years. She was a member
of the First Baptist Church in Beaumont. Mrs. Foley helped organize the
Spindle Top Charity Horse Show in Beaumont, and was also active in the
American Saddle Horse Association.
The remains were taken overland Thursday afternoon to Beaumont. Services
were held in Broussard's Chapel in Beaumont at 11 a.m. Friday, with
interment in the Magnolia Cemetery.
Survivors include the husband, R. F. (Pete) Foley of Crockett; a son,
Walter Allen Foley of Dallas; two grandsons, Mark and Allen Foley; and a
niece, Mrs. Roy Olsen of Corpus Christi.

R. F. (Pete) Foley
R. F. (Pete) Foley passed away at the Houston County Hospital in Crockett
early Sunday morning. Jan. 13, following a brief illness.
Mr. Foley had lived in Crockett for almost 20 years where he and his wife,
the former Neva Smith of Beaumont, Texas operated Cedar Hill Farm.
He was born June 1, 1898 in Denison, Texas where he grew up. He received
his degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A & M College in 1919. In
addition to raising cattle he and Mrs. Foley specialized for many years in
the breeding and showing of fine American saddle horses, winning some of
the major shows in this field.
Mr. Foley was a registered Professional Engineer and practiced his
profession in his earlier years with the Texas Highway Department. He was
one of the leaders in establishing the Houston County Airport and was an
avid aviation enthusiast and licensed pilot.
Mass was held by Father Anselm Walker in the Waller Funeral Chapel at 6:30
p.m. Monday, Jan 14, and graveside services were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at
the Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont. The bady lay in state in the Broussard
Funeral Chapel Tuesday morning until funeral service time.
Survivors include his son, Walter Allen Foley of Dallas, and two grandsons.
Mrs. Foley preceded him in death. A niece, Mrs. J. Roy Olsen of Corpus
Christi and several great nieces and nephews also survive.

Harold Keith Folmar
Mr. Harold Keith Folmar, 32, of Rt. 1, Crockett, died early Saturday
morning at his home.
Mr. Folmar was a lifelong resident of Houston County. He was a member of
the Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Callvary Baptist Church
with Rev. Elmer Sarratt and Rev. Glen Stovall officiating. Burial was in
the Evergreen Cemetery.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Ann Folmar; a son, John Russell Folmar; a
daughter, La Nita Ann Felmar; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Folmar, all of
Crockett.

Mrs. Rosalie Cooper Ford
Mrs. Rosalie Cooper Ford, 85, of Crockett, died Saturday in a local nursing
home.
Mrs. Ford was born Jan. 26, 1884, in Lakeland, Fla., but had lived in
Crockett the last 45 years. She lived in east Tennessee as a young girl.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Crockett. The Cooper family
moved to the Huntsville area, and she was married to the late O. E. Ford.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with Dr. C. G. Long officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen
Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Luther Stover, Ed Klein, Oscar Maxwell, Joe Munson, Ernie
Holmes and Dr. F. M. Posey Jr..
Survivors include a son, Col. John T. (Jack) Ford of Tinker Air Force Base,
Oklahoma City, Okla.; two sisters, Mrs. Frank M. Posey of San Antonio and
Mrs. Edgar L. Strozier of Spring; two brothers, J. L. Cooper of
Madisonville and L. C. Cooper of Willis; two daughters-in-laws, Mrs. Edwin
Ford of San Antonio and Mrs. John T. Ford of Oklahoma City; and six
grandchildren, Mrs. Joseph Munson, Mrs. Ernest Holmes, Jacqueline, James,
John and Jerry Ford.

Dee Forehand
Mr. Dee Forehand, 79, of Crockett, died in a local nursing home Saturday.
Mr. Forehand, a retired oil lease broker for Humble Oil & Refining Co., was
born Feb. 6, 1891. He was a member of the First Christian Church.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday in teh First Christian Church,
with Dr. Gilbert Davis and Rev. Mack McCarter officiating. Burial was in
Strong Memorial Park at Slocum.
Pallbearers were Reginald Driskell, Wyatt Christian, Dr. C. B. Lake, Tully
Breaux, Roland Bear and E. B. Houston.
Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Cecile Forehand of Crockett; a nephew,
Artie Forehand of Point Comfort; and three nieces.

Paul Faver Foster
Mr. Paul Faver Foster, 37, of Houston died June 5, in a local hospital, of
injuries sustained in an automobile wreck on the loop in Crockett.
Mr. Foster was owner of Foster Wrecking Service. He was born Nov. 14, 1928,
in Tampa, Fla. and was a veteran of World War II.
The remains wre shipped from Houston by air on Monday to York, S. C. for
services and burial there. Services were to be at the York Funeral Home,
with burial in Bethesda Cemetery there.
Survivors include the father, Guy Foster of York, S. C., and one sister.
Arrangements were in charge of Callaway Funeral Home.

Mrs. Fannie Mae Long Foster
Mrs. Fannie Mae Long Foster, 71, of Crockett, died Monday morning in a
local hospital.
Mrs. Long was a lifelong resident of Houston County. She was a member of
the Methodist Church and of the Augusta Eastern Star.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Methodist
Church, with Rev. L. B. Broach and Rev. Jim Rhodes officiating. Burial was
in the Evergreen Memorial park.
Survivors incluede the husband, Lee H. Foster of Crockett; four brothers,
Nelson O. and J. D. Long, both of Crockett, Gus Long of Greenville and
Durwood Long of Henderson; three sisters, Mrs. Lou Nelle Holcomb of
Crockett, Mrs. Lenora McCarley of Kilgore and Mrs. Lila Westmoreland of
Huntsville; also several nieces and nephews.
