Mrs. Florence Pennington Dailey
Mrs. Florence Pennington Dailey, 75, of 814 E. Clark, Crockett, died Sunday
in Nan Travis Hospital, Jacksonville, of injuries sustained in an
automobile accident on Highway 84 near Rusk Sunday morning.
Mrs. Dailey was born Jan. 23, 1896, in Houston County. She was a member of
the First Baptist Church of Crockett
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with Rev. E. P. Ramsey and rev. Charles Haley officiating.
Internment was in Evergreen Memorial was in Evergreen Memorial Park in
Crockett.
Pallbearers were Dan Pennington, Grady Earl Pennington, Clifford
Pennington, Mose Henry Spence, Jimmy Johnston and R. C. Pennington.
Survivors include the husband, Mr. Smith Dailey of Crockett; a daughter,
Mrs. Don McReynolds of Conroe; a son, Milton Dailey of Grapeland; a
brother, Earl Pennington of Grapeland; and five grandchildren.

Dailey Rites At Mt. Zion
Rev. Tandy E. Dailey, who departed this life on March 30, in Palestine was
born on December 17, 1897.
Rev. Dailey was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church
with Rev. T. L. Berry officiating and graveside rites under the auspices of
Pearl Court #96. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. carrie Dailey; one daughter, Miss Brenda
Joyce Dailey; two step-sons; two nieces, Mrs. Allie Mae Johnson of Elkhart,
Mrs. Carrie Teal of Ft. Worth; one nephew, Mr. E. H. Grice of Houston,

Rites Held Tuesday for J. K. Dailey, Sr.
Funeral services for Mike Dailey, 58, of Grapeland, were held at 3:00 p.m.
Tuesday. November 13 in the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth
Hiner officiating. Burial was in the Grapeland City Cemetery, under the
direction of Hassell & Foster.
James Kent Dailey was born in Houston County December 18, 1914, son of the
late Tom F. Dailey and Elizabeth Kent Dailey. He died at 12:15 a.m. Monday,
November 12, in a Grapeland hospital, following a long illness. A farmer
and rancher, he also owned and operated the D&D Hardware for 13 years. He
was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served many years as
Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of Grapeland Eastern Star,
Chapter No. 120 and was a Past Master of Grapeland Masonic Lodge No. 473 AF
& AM. For several years, he was president of the Grapeland School Board.
Also he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Community Memorial
Hospital in Grapeland, served several years as a member of the Grapeland
City Council, several years as president of Houston County Farm Bureau and
also State Committee of Farm Bureau
Named as honorary pallbearers: Dan Hill, Jack Spence, Herman Murchison, Joe
Thomas Darsey, Willie Cheatham, Bob Scoggins, John S. Murchison, Frank

Albert King Daniel
Mr. Albert King Daniel, 56-year-old native of Houston County and known
affectionately to his many friends as "Slow", died Thursday, Nov.,14, in a
local nursing home following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Daniel was a graduate of the University of Texas and was a member of
the Texas State Bar Association. He had his own civil law practice in
Crockett from 1932 to 1942. He served as state representative from Houston
County for four terms, and during the administration of Governor James
Allred he served as state tax collector, an office which has since been
abolished.
Mr. Daniel also served Houston County for 10 years as county judge.
During World War II, Mr. Daniel was a trial judge advocate and in this
capacity he investigated and prepared for trial some 7,000 special and
general court martial cases and acted as trial judge advocate for these
same cases.
This tour of duty continued for 18 months while he was assigned to the 10th
Reinforcement Depot, Litchfield, England. He also acted as a war crimes
investigator with the 15th and 7th Armies in Europe.
A lifelong member of the First Methodist Church of Crockett, Mr. Daniel was
born on July 5, 1907, in Houston County. He is survived by his mother, Mrs.
Ruth King Daniel of Crockett; two sisters, Mrs. Faye Oatman of Austin and
Mrs. M. D. Hardy of Liberty; and two brothers, I. A. Daniel of Deer Park
and Morris S. Daniel of LaMarque.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, from the Callaway
Memorial Chapel with the Rev. E. Jewel Strong, Methodist minister of
Crocket, officiating. Interment was in the Glenwood Cemetery, and
pallbearers were Bob Overstreet, Dan Julian, Neal Clements, Phil Nix, Alf
Roark, and T. D. Craddock.

Mrs. Ruth King Daniel
Mrs. Ruth King Daniel, 91, of Crockett died Monday in Whitehall Nursing
Home.
Mrs. Daniel was born Jan. 29, 1875, in Grimes County, but had lived most of
her life in Houston County. She was a member of the First Methodist Church
of Crockett.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with Rev. L. B. Broach, pastor of the First Methodist Church,
officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Denny Collins, dr. Joe Means, Joe Holland Arrington, Smith
Clines, Clarence McCarty and Mose Henry Spence.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Faye Oatman of Austin and Mrs. Max
Hardy of Liberty; two sons, Ike Daniel of Deer Park and Morris S. Daniel of
LaMarque; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Cleburne. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery
Mr. Daniel, a resident of Cleburne, died Sunday in South Fork, Colo.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lillian Daniel of Cleburne; two sons,
Thomas and William Oliver Daniel, both of Godley; a daughter, Mrs. Clyde
Wilburn Young of Cleburne.

Ike A. Daniel
Mr. Ike A. Daniel, 64, of Deer Park, died in a Houston hospital Wednesday,
Jan. 28.
Mr. Daniel, a retired employee of Shell Oil Co., had lived in Deer Park 29
years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Deer Park. He was
reared in Crockett.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Forest Park
Lawndale Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Jimmy Nelson officiating. Burial was in
the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Lena Spence Daniel, and a son, Jack S.
Daniel, both of Deer Park; two sisters, Mrs. Faye Oatman of Austin and Mrs.
Max Hardy of Liberty; a brother, Morris S. Daniel of LaMarque; two
grandchildren, Donnie and Lisa Daniel, both of Deer Park; also a number of
nieces and nephews.

Rites Held For Mrs. Daniels
Funeral services for Mrs. Belle Daniels, 96, of Route 3, Grapeland, were
held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, April 14, in Evergreen Chapel. Officiating were
the Rev. W. H. Wieting and Calvin Dickey. Burial followed in Evergreen
Cemetery, under the directions of Hassell & Foster.
Pallbearers were C. W. Cherry, James Franklin, James Calloway, Marvin
Denson, Buddie Dotson, and Joe Langham.
Native and lifelong resident of Houston County, Mrs. Daniels was born March
21, 1878, daughter of the late John Dotson and Mrs. Elizabeth Sullivan
Dotson. She died at 3:55 a.m. Saturday in a Crockett hospital, following a
long illness. She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Percilla.
She was preceded in Death by her husband, Calvin Daniels, in 1945.
Survivors: one brother, S. P. Dotson, Crockett; one sister, Mrs. Lula
Franklin, Palestine; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Della Alice Daniels
Mrs. Della Alice Daniels, 72, of 162 Bonham Ave., Crockett, passed away
Monday, Aug. 21, in the Crockett Nursing Center.
Mrs. Daniels was a lifelong resident of Houston County. She was a member of
the First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Waller Chapel, with
Rev. E. P. Ramsey and Rev. J. R. Higginbotham officiating. Interment was in
the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Crockett.
Survivors include the husband, Archie Daniels of Crockett; a son, Eurel
Baker of Houston; three daughters, Mrs. Virgie Sizemore of Edinburg. Mrs.
Veda Johnson of Jacinto City and Mrs. Doris Bertone of Houston; a brother,
Guy Middleton of Weldon; two sisters, Mrs. Daisy Anderson of Weldon and
Mrs. Stella Sump of Giddings; eight granchildren; four great-grandchildren;
and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Maud Alma Daniels
Funeral services for Mrs. Maud Alma Daniels, 87, of Percilla were held
Sunday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m. in the Evergreen Chapel, Percilla with the Rev.
W. H. Wieting an dCalvin Dickey officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen
Cemetery.
Mrs. Daniels, daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. M. J. Parnell, was born
August 24, 1881, in Kaufman County, Texas, and died Saturday, Nov 23 at
12:30 a.m. in her home following a long illness. Widow of the late George
Daniels, she had lived the last 7- years in the Grapeland area, and was a
member of the Assembly of God Church in Grapeland.
Survivors include one son, Jesse Ernest Daniels of Chatfield, Texas; a
daughter, Mrs. Linnie Wright of Rt. 3 Grapeland; two sisters, Mrs. Zelma
Kuykendall of Ft. Worth, Mrs. Ruby Sherrill of Dallas; four grandchildren;
four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were by Hassell and Foster.

Edwin E. Dansby
Mr. Edwin E. Dansby, 48, of Houston, passed away in Houston Monday, Sept.
13.
Mr. Dansby was a former resident of Trinity County, but had lived in
Houston for the past 25 years. He was a veteran of World War II, and was
employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad.
Grave side funeral services were held at 12 noon Wednesday, with Rev. H. R.
Stinson officiating. Interment was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Survivors inlude the mother, Mrs. Thelma Ethridge of Houston; three
brothers, Fred Dansby of Houston, Robert B. and Roy L. Dansby, both of San
Antonio; one niece and three great-nieces.

Mrs. G. E. Darsey
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. for Mrs. Lorena
Elizabeth Darsey, 85. Mrs. Darsey, a pioneer resident of Grapeland and
Houston county died at her home here Sunday morning after an extended
illness.
Officiating at the service at the First Methodist church were Rev. H. C.
Millikan, pastor, Rev. B. C. Anderson of Huntsville and Rev. B. A. Watson
of Hawkins. Rev. Anderson and Rev. Watson are former pasotrs of the church
here.
Burial was in the City cemetery.
Pallbearers were S. N. Boykin Jr., Dewitt Richards, Frank Murchison, Jack
Murchison, M. R. Murchison, J. S. Darsey, Charles Bartlett and Odell Faris.
Mrs. Darsey was the wife of George E. Darsey Sr., who founded the Darsey
company here in 1886. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago.
Before being confined by illness, Mrs. Marsey was still active and
interested in the growth of Grapeland and devoted much time and energy to
worthwhile projects which aided the town. She was a lifetime resident of
Grapeland and Houston county and was a member of the Methodist church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mary Lou Anderson of Grapeland; Mrs.
Frank Granberry of Crockett; Two sons,, M. E. Darsey Sr., and George E.
Darsey Jr., both of Grapeland; two sisters, Mrs. Jim Richards and Mrs. S.
N. Boykin Sr., both of Grapeland; 11 grandchildren; Mrs. Jack Long, Charley
darsey, Lorena darsey, Marion Anderson of Grapeland; Mrs. Jack Pridgen,

Mrs. Lorena C. Darsey, 85, died at her ome in Grapeland, Sunday Oct. 21.
Services wree held Sunday Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. at the First Methodist church
of Grapeland with the Rev. B. C. Anderson officiating. Burial was in the
Grapeland cemetery.
Mrs. Darsey is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Lou Anderson of
Grapeland and Mrs. Frank Granberry of Crockett; two sons, M. E. Darsey, and
George E. Darsey Jr., both of Grapeland; two sisters, Mrs. Jim Richards and

Mrs. George E. Darsey Sr., 85, died Sunday after a lingering illness. She
was the widow of a pioneer East Texas merchant. Funeral will be held at the
first Methodist Church Tuesday at 11 a.m. Survivors are two sons, M. E.
Darsey, and George E. Darsey Jr., Grapeland; two daughters, Mrs. Leon
Anderson, Grapeland, and Mrs. Frank Granberry, Crockett.

George Edward Darsey Jr.
Mr. George Edward Darsey Jr., 68, owner of the George E. Darsey Co. of
Grapeland, died in Herman Hosptial in Houston Sunday morning, following a
brief illness. Born in Houston County Feb. 11, 1894, Mr. darsey was
president of the Farmers & Merchants State Bank of Grapeland. He was a
charter member of the Grapeland Fire Department and of the Grapeland post
of the VFW, he being a veteran of WW I. He was chairman of the board of
trustees of the Grapeland Community Hospital and a former member of the
Grapeland city council. Mr. dArsey was ery active in all business and civic
affairs of Grapeland and Houston County. He was a member of Grapeland Lodge
No. 473, AF & AM and of the First Methodist Church of Grapeland.
Funeral services were held from the First Methodist Church of Grapeland at
4 p.m. Monday, with Rev. John B. Rozelle, Methodist pastor, and Rev. Bland
Kerby, Baptist Pastor, of Grapeland officiating. Burial was in the
Grapeland City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were M. E. Darsey Jr., Darsey Anderson, Dewitt Richards, S. N.
Boykin Jr., Jack B. long, and Gene Woodell.
Survivors iinclude the wife, Mrs. Maggie Darsey of Grapeland; two sons,
George Edward Darsey III, and Charlie C. Darsey, both of Grapeland; a
sister, Mrs. Frank Granberry of Crockett, and five grandchildren.

M. E. Darsey, Banker, Dies In Hospital
GRAPELAND, Oct 30---Murdock E. Darsey Sr., 62, prominent Houston County
banker, businessman and civic leader, died in Crockett Hospital at 5:30
p.m. Thursday following a week's illness.
A Native of Grapeland, he was the son of one of Houston County's pioneers.
George Darsey Sr., He was president of the Farmers and Merchants State Bank
and Grapeland Chamber of Commerce and a past president and charter member
of the Lions Club.
He was a member of the Methodist Church, was a member of the board of
stewarts more than 30 years and was for 28 years Sunday School
superintendent.
He was a member of the Grapeland Masonic Lodge and of Arabia Temple Shrine
at Houston. He served as a director of the East Texas Chamber of Commerce
and was named the Man of the Month in 1939. He also was a director of the
Texas Retail Drygoods Association.
Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Luna Frank Darsey; two daughters, Mrs. Jack
Long of Grapeland and Mrs. Jack Pridgen of Ballinger; one son, M. E. Darsey
Jr. of Grapeland; two sisters, Mrs. Leon Anderson of Eastland and Mrs.
Frank Granberry of Crockett; one brother, George Darsey Jr. of Grapeland,
and three grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be announced.

DARSEY
W. G. Darsey Jr., 54, of Palestine, died 3:45 p.m. Thursday in the Memorial
Hospital, Palestine. Active independent oilman in South and East Texas,
resided in Palestine for the last three years, native of Grapeland,

Miss Mary Loye Darsey
Funeral services for Miss Mary Loye Darsey, age 83, of Grapeland, were held
at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the First United Methodist Church, Grapeland, with
the Rev. Calvin Beckendorf and the Rev. Kennith Mobley officiating. Burial
followed in Grapeland City Cemetery, with Hassell & Foster in charge.
Miss Darsey was born Feb. 9, 1887, to the late Edward Hill Darsey and Mrs.
Mattie Clower Darsey, and died Sunday morning in a Crockett hospital,
following a long illness. Miss darsey had spent most of her life in
Grapeland working as a clerk in the George E. darsey & Co. store for many
years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Grapeland,
and a Sunday School teacher for many years. Also she was a member of the
Woodman Circle.
Pallbearers were Dr. Edward Darsey, Charlie Darsey, DeWitt Richards, Dr.
Joe E. Darsey, Dr. Gene Carlton, John Smith, David Walker, and Kenneth
Barfield.
Survivors include three brothers, J. S. Darsey and M. H. Darsey, both of
Grapeland, and George R. Darsey, Houston;two sisters, Mrs. Harold Nutt,
Louella, Ga., and Miss Esther Darsey, Grapeland.

J. T. Dauphin
of Latexo
Funeral services for J. T. Dauphin, 69, of Rt. 3, Crockett, were held
Friday, November 3, at 2:00 p.m. In the First Baptist Church, Grapeland,
with the REv. Kenneth Mobley officiating. Burial was in the Parker
Cemetery, near Grrapeland, under the direction of Hassel & Foster.
Pallbearers were Bill Huff, Herman Murchison, Leonard Barnes, Ralph Walton,
Jimmy Garner and Earl Cheatham. All deacons of First Baptist Church were
designated Honorary Pallbearers.
Mr. Dauphin was born June 20, 1903 in Lovelady, Texas, to the late William
Thomas Dauphin and Martha Elizabeth Taylor Dauphin, and he died Wednesday,
November 1, at 8:15 a.m. in his home following a long illness. He was a
member and deacon of the first Baptist Church, Grapeland, and served for
several years as Sunday School Superintendent. During World War II, he
served in the U.S. Navy from October 7, 1942 until July 12, 1945. Prior to
retiring in 1965, he was employed in the Legal Department of Humble Oil &
Refining Company, Houston and he moved to Crockett after retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Madge Bean Dauphin, Crockett; two
brothers, W. D. Dauphin of Houston, and Floyd Dauphin of Baytown; two
sistes, Mrs. A. R. Johnson of Webster and Mrs. W. ol. Holleman of
Centerville.

officiating.
Interment was in the Davis Cemetery near Grapeland.
Born on Feb. 23, 1901, in Alabama, Mrs. Davidson was a member of the
Baptist church, and had lived in Crocket for the past 10 years.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Dollie Hutto of Clayton, Ala., and Mrs.
Nellie Hutto of Muncie, Ind; and several nieces and nephews.

Services Held For
Olan W. Davis
Funeral services for Olan Welborn Davis, 79, of Grapeland were held Friday,
March 19, at 4 p.m. in the First Christian Church, Grapeland, with Rev. Jim
Brandt and Rev. Andrew Byers officiating. Burial was in the Refuge Cemetery
east of Grapeland.
Pallbearers were J. D. Hollingsworth, Edward Davis, Luther Davis, Henry
Davis Newman, Eddie Zimmerman, Alroy Zimmerman, Billie Frazier, James
Frazier and Dick Murchison.
Lifelong resident of Grapeland, Mr. Davis was born January 15, 1886. From
1954-1960, he served as commissioner in Houston County, and at the time of
his death, he was serving as Justice of Peace in Grapeland, having held
that office since 1960. A farmer and rancher, he died Thursday morning,
march 18, in his home following a short illness. He was a member of the
Christian Church.
Suvivors: wife, Mrs. Mada Murchison Davis of Grapeland; a son, Welborn
davis of Houston; two daughters, Miss Mayola of Grapeland and Mrs. Sallye
Lou Christopher of Crockett; three brothers, Clyde Davis of Grapeland,
Edwin Davis of Robstown, and Leroy Davis of Woodville; three sisters, Mrs.
Adell Zimmerman of Poynor, Mrs. Eula Mae Trigg and Mrs .Winnie Newman, both
of Grapeland; two grandsons, Larry & David Christopher, both of Crockett.
