BENNY RAY MATCHETT
Benny Ray Matchett passed from this life on July 31, 2011at the age of 78 in Madisonville, TX. He was born on April 22, 1933 in Kennard, TX to James and Dora Matchett. Benny is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Audrey Diane Matchett; brother, Donald Matchett; and sister, Inez McLaughlin. Benny is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Audrey Matchett; 2 daughters, Tammy Kaye Henry and husband Chris, and Pamela Jean Yocham and husband Danny; 4 grandchildren, Sydney Henry, Miller Henry, Austin Yocham and wife Kaylan, and Hunter Yocham and wife Lacy; 1 expected great-grandchild; and brother, Bill Matchett. Benny was a long time business owner in Houston, and has served as the interim pastor for the 1st Baptist Church of Presidio, as well as district secretary of the Rural Rail District. He loved traveling the world, and raising animals. Benny will be missed, his memory cherished by all who knew and loved him. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, August 4, 2011 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. in The Chapel of Grand View Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m., with interment to follow in Grand View Memorial Park.

 

MARVIN JUNIOR EASLEY

Marvin Junior Easley, age 81 of Crockett, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2011 at Community Care Center in Crockett.  He was born April 26, 1930 in Houston County on the Murray Farm Sand Ridge to John Daniel Easley and Eva Perkins Easley.  He met and married Evelyn Johnson January 30, 1953 to this union five children were born.  Survivors include his sons, William Dan Easley and wife Rita of Porter Springs, Marvin Wayne Easley and wife Michelle of Latexo, and John Marvin Easley of Crockett; daughter Judy Ann Easley of Crockett; brother Julian Ramirez; sisters, Dell Wolf of Jacksonville, Helen Kilpatrick and Bobbie Easley, both of Crockett.  Preceded in death by his parents John Daniel Easley and Eva Perkins Easley; wife Evelyn Johnson Easley; daughter Wanda Chance; sisters Margaret Fritzgerald and Wanda Faye; brothers Earl Easley, Jessie Easley; Elvis Easley and Billy Ray Easley. Funeral services for Marvin Junir Easley were held Friday, July 29, 2011 at 10:00 am in Percilla Evergreen Church in Percilla with the Rev. Dewayne Thornton officiating.  Interment followed in Percilla Evergreen Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Mike Omelina, Pete Miles, George Easley, Curtis Lockhart, Danny Dise and Jerry Dise.

GEORGE TRENTON SNODGRASS

Services for George Trenton Snodgrass age 89 of Grapeland will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday at the Missionary Baptist Church, Grapeland with Pastor Albert Munsinger officiating. Burial will follow in Grapeland City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster. Mr. Snodgrass died Sunday at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. He was born July 4, 1921 in Hutchinson, KS., to Bert and Letha Snodgrass. He was one of four children. Mr. Snodgrass was an aviation mechanic and worked for Hyde Aviation and Metro Airlines. He was a member of the Grapeland Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Snodgrass served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was married for 55 years to Faye, who preceded him in death in 2001. He is survived by two sons, Trenton and Clifton, daughters-in-law Joey and Alana, three grandchildren, Holly, Dana, and Terren, four great grandchildren, Sam, Lillie, Will and Lucy. Pallbearers will be Thomas Smallwood, Matt Micheletti, Jim French, Terren Snodgrass, Dale Fogle and Bob Jones. Condolence calls will be received from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Bailey & Foster Chapel, Grapeland.

 

ERIC PYEATT

Services for Eric “Possum” Pyeatt age 29 will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Bailey & Foster Chapel, Grapeland with Will Yates officiating. Burial will follow in Weches Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster. Mr. Pyeatt died Tuesday in Grapeland. He was born December 27, 1981 in Crockett to Fred and Pat Cooper Pyeatt. Mr. Pyeatt worked as a technician for Whitehead Heat & Air. He attended the Cowboy Church in Grapeland. Mr. Pyeatt is survived by his parents Fred and Pat Pyeatt, grandmother Jean Cooper, great grandmother Mildred Ivey, two daughters Heaven Lee Paquette and Katie Goolsby, a sister Salina Bryan and husband Chris, brother John Amos, four nephews and numerous aunts and uncles. Pallbearers will be Caleb Luce, Kyle Luce, Jonathan Ellington, Brody Bogan, Jeremy Bobbitt and Andrew Leamons. Condolence calls will be received from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. DOROTHY ELAINE (HUDSON) GOOLSBY

Funeral services for Dorothy Elaine Goolsby 70 of Grapeland, will be held 10:00 AM Thursday at Christ Essential Baptist Church with Bro. Danny Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Christ Essential Baptist Church. Mrs. Goolsby passed away Sunday in Lufkin. She was born April 22, 1941 in Houston County, to Ollie Hudson and Peggy Elite Young Stehle. She was owner of Dot’s Beauty Shop and a member of Christ Essential Baptist Church. Mrs. Goolsby was preceded in death by her mother. She is survived by her husband Bruce Goolsby of Grapeland, father Ollie Hudson of Percilla, daughter Susan Kay Goolsby of Harker Heights, sons James Bruce Goolsby of Richmond and Kevin Lee Goolsby and wife Melanie of Latexo, daughter-in-law Kathy Oliver of Latexo, sister Billy Sue Jackson of Percilla, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

 

ARTHUR RICH

Arthur “Noel” Rich, age 91, of Grapeland, Texas, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011, in Cartmell Home For The Aged in Palestine, Texas. Noel was born December 24, 1919, in Fairmont, West Virginia. After graduating from high school Noel had a variety of interesting occupations eventually traveling to Texas. He retired as a heavy equipment operator from Monsanto Chemical Company, Texas City, Texas and moved to Grapeland to become a rancher where he thoroughly enjoyed the country life. Noel was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Grapeland. Survivors include his wife Lurlene Shirley Rich of Grapeland, daughter Sandra Woolsey and husband Wayland of Grapeland, step-daughter Maridelle Shirley of Elkhart, step-son Randall (“Randy”) Shirley of Elkhart; grand daughters Terre Lynn Dyche and husband George of Buford, GA, Angie Gray and husband Randall of Pasadena, TX and Jamie Annette Jones of Hurst, TX; grandchildren by marriage Douglas Woolsey and wife Dawn of Bacliff, TX, Kimberly August of La Marque, TX, Kelly DeGraaf and husband Craig of League City, TX; sister Marjorie Harrell of Cedar Park, TX and brother L.C. (“Buddy”) Rich and wife Suzanne of Texas City, TX. Numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other beloved relatives. Noel loved his family and never met a stranger. His outstretched hand and offer of friendship will always be remembered. Noel was preceded in death by his parents Arthur James Rich and wife Lula Viola “Springer” Rich, wife Bobbie Jean (Troxlar) Rich and infant son Larry Noel Rich; grandson by marriage Danny Allen Woolsey; brother Carl David Rich and wife Edith of Indiana, sister June Curtis and husband Tom of Florida. COLETON LEE SANDERS

Graveside services for Coleton Lee Sanders 20 of Grapeland will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at Davis Cemetery with Bro. Davey Hobson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster. Mr. Coleton passed away Monday in Tyler. He was born February 2, 1991 in Crockett, to Philip and Christie Yates Sanders. He was a self-employed mechanic. Mr. Colton was preceded in death by grandparent Billy Stroud. He is survived by his parents Philip and Christie Sanders of Elkhart, grandparents Richard and Sybil Sanders of Grapeland, Tana Stroud of Grapeland and Larry Yates of Grapeland, fiance Brittany Roberts of Elkhart, aunt Michele Sanders of Grapeland, special cousins Diana Theisinger and husband John of Virginia and Isabela Gate of Tyler.

J.” Alexander of Magnolia; brother, Glen H. Mrs. Beverly Jean Collier Glover, age 79 of Lovelady, formerly of Clute, passed away Monday, July 18, 2011 in Hospice in the Pines Inpatient Unit in Lufkin. Mrs. Glover was born February 10, 1932 in Birmingham, Alabama and had lived in Lovelady since 2003, previously living in Clute. Mrs. Glover had worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse having retired from Brazosport Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Lovelady Church of Christ. Survivors include her sister Charlotte Jones and husband Claude, of Lovelady; brothers John Collier and wife Betty, of Hope, Ark. and David Collier, Sr. and wife Betty, of Lovelady; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. FERRELL DORA FELDER THOMAS
Mrs. Ferrell Dora Felder Thomas, age 86 of Crockett passed away of congestive heart failure on Thursday, July 14, 2011 in Houston at North Cypress Medical Center. Mrs. Thomas was born in Houston, Texas on November 8, 1924 to Henry Howard Felder and Desta A. Williams Felder. Her father was a choir director of various Assembly of God churches for most of his life, so naturally Ferrell’s secondary interest was singing. She had a strong alto voice and sang God's praises with various gospel quartets in the South Texas, Louisiana and Florida area. Mrs. Thomas and the love of her life, Will Thomas, loved the area around Houston County and her grandmother founded a church that exists still today in Grapeland: Felder's Chapel. She loved to sing, she loved to laugh, she loved to appreciate God's creation, she loved a good game (whether it was dominoes, cards, or even football). But the primary passion and driving force of her life was to be a servant and coworker in the ministry of Jesus Christ. He was the Rock on which she built her life and what a strong foundation He has been. She was active in the “fields of harvest in the Kingdom of God on earth” until her days were completed, fittingly, for at least the past decade, here at Harvest Church in Crockett. She lived her life in accordance with her faith and her faith was Strong as was her love for People. She was known variously as "Sister Ferrell," "Miss Ferrell," "Miss Thomas", "Grandma Ferrell," "Mom," just plain "Ferrell," and by other terms of endearment. She loved generously with words and action and to really know her was to know of her love for her Savior, His Word, and her love for you…and to love her in return. GEORGE EDWARD IVINS
Mr. George Ivins, age 71 of Weldon, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011 in the Triumph Hospital in Tomball. Mr. Ivins was born May 22, 1940 in Weldon, Texas and had lived all of his lifetime in Weldon. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Ivins retired having worked in Pipeline Construction as a Heavy Equipment Operator and was a member of the Weldon Baptist Church. Survivors include his brother Lytlejohn Ivins and wife Ann, of Tomball; sister Doris Crowson and husband Wayne, of Dickinson; brother-in-law Doyle Hutcherson and wife Helen, of Tomball; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mr. Jonny Paul Stewart, age 74 of Crockett, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. Mr. Stewart was born September 21, 1936 in Lovelady and had lived in Houston County most of his lifetime. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Lovelady Baptist Church. Mr. Stewart also was a veteran of the United States Army. Mrs. Clara Faye Williams, age 86 of Texas City, passed away Friday, July 8, 2011, at Mainland Medical Center. Mrs. Williams was born December 2, 1924 in Center Hill, Texas. She was a retired school teacher, a member of Mainland Church of Christ, and Mainland Morning Quilt Guild. She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred S. Williams. EUGENIA (JEAN) PLETKA MATHER
Mrs. Eugenia (Jean) Pletka Mather, age 94 of Chickasha, Oklahoma, formerly of Crockett, Texas, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011 in the Glen Haven Retirement Village in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Mrs. Mather was born October 5, 1916 in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in Grand Junction, Colorado. She graduated from Mesa Junior College and taught school in Western Colorado. Mrs. Mather had a variety of occupations and ended her career as a social worker for the Texas Department of Welfare. She was active in the Magnolia Garden Club and Phythian Sisters. Mrs. Mather was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Crockett where she was the founding member of the Builder’s Class, past president of the Methodist Women and was active in the Young at Hearts Club. Art was a passion, beadwork, needlework, water colors, oils, etc. She traveled to Europe, Asia, Mexico, Canada and throughout the United States. Survivors include her daughter Linda Walker and husband James D., of New Orleans, La.; son Mike Mather and wife Jeanne, of Chickasha, Okla.; grandchildren Heidi Rice, Elizabeth Walker, Robert Dayton Mather and Jacquelyn Hutzell; great-grandchildren Sydney Walker, Lara Rice, John David Rice, Lana Rice and Dayton Mather; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. DOROTHY LOU BEAVERS ENGLISH
Mrs. Dorothy Lou Beavers English, age 83, passed away on Saturday July 2, 2011 in Sherman, Texas. Mrs. English was born March 5, 1928 in Crockett, Texas. The only child of Dock and Mary Sue Beavers, Mrs. English was raised in the Shady Grove Community east of Crockett. She graduated from Crockett High School in 1945. After graduation, she worked with the United States Veterans program in Crockett and later worked for the First National Bank in Crockett until 1982. On August 18, 1946 she and Charles E. English were united in marriage which lasted over 63 years until his death on December 28, 2009. In 1982 Mrs. English was elected County Clerk of Houston County and was re-elected in 1986. In 1990 she retired from public service and relocated with her husband to Nacogdoches, Texas where they resided until his death. In 2010 she relocated to Sherman, Texas where she resided at the Renaissance Retirement Center until her death. Mrs. English was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches, Texas and the Order of Eastern Star 509. She previously served as Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star in both Lovelady and Crockett. Survivors include her sons Dr. Charles Keith English and wife Debbie, of Rockville, Md. and Dr. Ken English and wife Lauren, of Sherman; grandchildren Stacey English, Christina English and husband Christopher Smith, of Rockville, Md., Lance English, of College Station, Clay English, of Burlington, Vt. and Meredith Ladd and husband Craig, of Ardmore, Okla.; great-grandchildren Chandler, Collin, and Alec Ladd; brothers-in-law Homer L. Mrs. Hughs was born May 5, 1947 in San Antonio, Texas to Lawrence Pickney Cudd and Dorothy M. (Mann) Cudd. She had retired in 2007 from Baker Hughes Tool after 10 plus years. Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Joe Don Hughs, Sr.; children Joe Hill and wife Andria, Julie Maldonado and husband Steve, Joe Don Hughs, Jr. and wife Debra, Travis Russell Hughs and wife Peggy, Christopher Cudd and wife Letty, Stacey Bryant and husband Gene, and Phyllis Taylor and husband Bobby; brothers and sisters Sissy Michael, Carol Davis, Larry Cudd, Shirley Hodges, Roger Cudd and Brian Cudd; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and dear friends. SAMMIE LOUISE STERNS
Mrs. Sammie Louise Sterns, age 84 of Crockett, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in the Whitehall Nursing Center in Crockett. Mrs. Sterns was born April 14, 1927 in Crockett, Texas and had lived in Crockett most of her lifetime. She was a retired bookkeeper and attended the Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her daughter-in-law Peggy Martin, of Houston; grandchildren Steven Leon Martin, of Katy, Paul Todd Martin, of Spring and Anthony Wayne Rutledge, of Houston; great-grandchildren Heather King, Kourtnie Shrader and Justin Poiencot, Leah Martin and Kenzee Martin; brother-in-law Jerry Fulenwider, of San Antonio; sisters-in-law Pat Sterns, of Willis and Frieda Thompson, of Colo.; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceded in death by her husband Leon E. “Sonny” Sterns; son Michael L. ALLEN EDWARD WHITTLE

Allen Edward Whittle, age 78, of Crockett, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 in the Community Care Center in Crockett. He was born October 29, 1932 in San Diego, California and had lived in Crockett since 2005. Mr. Whittle was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He was retired having worked as a physical therapist and was a member of the Catholic Church. Survivors include sister, Ellen Andreasen of Lovelady; nieces, Mary Merritt and husband, Mike of Ada, Oklahoma, Sherry Kimmel and husband ,Ron of Ada, Oklahoma, Katherine Powers and husband, Mike of Reno, Nevada; nephews, Dennis Andreasen of Charlotte, North Carolina, Gary Andreasen of Ada, Oklahoma. Interment is pending in the Houston National Cemetery
