SWEET HOPE CEMETERY

Located about three and one-half miles north west of the Country Club road.

Land was given by Mr. Lee Cooper, a land owner in this once large black community. A church and school were there until 1933, when a storm destroyed the school.

The old Cooper house still sets across the road to the right just before you get to Latexo. The cemetery has grown up since being fenced, with no access to the citizens. Many more graves are here, unmarked.

Information submitted by Mrs. Susie Johnson Brooks, Mrs. Espanola Cooper Murphy, Mrs. Lursine McCoy Black, and Mrs. Georgia Jolley.
