MOUNT MORIAH OR RAMSEY CEMETERY

Mount Moriah Cemetery, named for the nearby church, is located six miles out Hwy. 21 West on the west side of the highway.

A fenced area sheltered by huge oak trees, the land was given by Mr. Joe Williams, a teacher in the Mt. Moriah school. The school is no longer in existence, but the Mt. Moriah church is still active. Later, Mr. Mose Bromberg gave an additional acre for cemetery use. An area in the northwest corner is left undisturbed because it is believed that there were burial places of white citizens (possibly Shoepeck, Shupak, families) there from earlier days.

Annie Whiting's survey of 1978 called this "Ramsey", but she is not able to give the source of the name, nor when the change began. 1985 survey by Clara Sue and W. R. Phythian, and Helen and Demps Moten.
