MATTHEWS CEMETERY - (Grapeland Area)

To reach cemetery, take FM-1272 at First Baptist Church, Grapeland, and continue to end of pavement (about eight miles) ; turn right on dirt road and proceed .9 of mile; turn right off dirt road and cross cattle guard; cemetery is short distance on left.

Miss Nettie Brown of Grapeland originally recorded the Cemetery and updated for third edition.

Land was given by Reuben Matthews prior to 1861. Houston County Deed Records show that land has been sold from Robert E. Matthews to B. F. Edens; from J. R. Edens to L. Keen, always excepting three acres for cemetery plot. HCDR: Book 10, page 426; Book IS, page 284; Book 568, page 89.
