OLD LATEXO CEMETERY

This small cemetery' is one of Houston County's "Lost Cemeteries", though it is still shown on County maps.

It is located northwest of Latexo, on the John A. Goolsby Survey (A 451), land now owned by Doug Harrison.

From US287 in Latexo, at the blinking light, turn west onto Old Latexo Rd. beside the Methodist Church, and travel 1/2-mile through a bend to a Y; take the left fork to cross the railroad tracks, where the road becomes CR2124; after 2/10 mile, at a T, turn right onto CR2120. Travel to CR2155, the last road before Little Ekhart Creek.

The site of the old Truevine Independent Baptist Church is at this intersection, and the site of the Oldham Community is also in the area.

The cemetery is located about 1/2 mile to the northwest.

In the 1980's, there were two or three metal markers remaining, such as those used by funeral homes, one of which was legible at the time.  Mr. Harrison recalls it bearing a date early in the century; he has been told that the graves there were those of "hands" from the sawmill, which was nearby.

According to Eugene Taylor, who grew up in the vicinity, some of those buried there were from the Estelle family.

Few people in the area remain who know anything about the cemetery.
