HEROD CEMETERY (also DANIEL McCARTY HEROD, SR. CEMETERY) GRAPELAND AREA

On FM 1283 3 miles NW of Grapeland; opposite Parker Cemetery turn west, cross Cleon Salmon cattleguard; 1/2 mile down lane to cemetery.
Daniel McCarty Herod came to Texas, 1849, and purchased 1107 acres of land 2 1/2miles NW of Grapeland. In 1863 a 13 year old child was buried near Herod's home; it is not known if child was theirs or a relative's child. Other graves were added, 21 in all, the last being that of Ace Pelham, son-in-law of Daniel Herod.

One grave is unmarked, all are family members.

Above information was taken from the survey report of Mrs. Wayne Collins for the 1978 cemeteries book. Mr. Herman Herod reports there have been no changes since that time. All names and dates are being copied for the 1985 book from Mrs.
