OLD  MISSISSIPPI  CEMETERY- (aka MISSISSIPPI HILL)

Located about 3 miles from Austonio on SH 21 southwest of Crockett.  Private. In Mustang Prairie area.

(From the Houston County Cemeteries - third edition)

Edison Rikard and Charles M. Alford give the location of this cemetery that served a community of people who came from Mississippi.  About 3 miles from Austonio on SH21 to Crockett is a road leading off to the right.  Go 1 1/2 miles, follow the fence line between Mustang Prairie Place and the Minter Place to the east corner.  Then go sount aobut 1/4 mile to the Old Cleve Yarbrough Place.

In the 1880's there was a church and the C.H. Davis High School near the old Cemetery which was used by the following families:  Elliot, Alford, Harvey, and possibly Hallmark, Goodwin, Bynum, and others.  The Cemetery is thought to have been in use from about 1860 to 1895.  All stones are limestone markers.  There seems to be about 10-13 graves.  Only one grave marker can be read.
