BODENHAMER CEMETERY

In Liberty Hill Community about 12 miles E of Grapeland off FM 227 and FM 3016. John W. Bodenhamer and family owned land here in early 1800's. They operated a ferry on Neches River-important link in route between Nacogdoches and San Antonio. Home sometimes was inn for travelers. They were active in community affairs and business here, also Augusta, Weches, Grapeland, Crockett, Palestine.

Some Bodenhamers were buried on their land and others in other communities.

About 24 graves can be counted - only a few can be identified as most were marked with rocks. Present land owners have tried to protect the cemetery; gates are closed-not accessible to public. Heirs of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Holcomb, owners, permitted Howard and Hazel Moore to copy and report it here.  Additional information given by Mrs. Lou Ola Holcomb Hoover, Mrs. Genita Holcomb Walton and John Henry Gale. Surveyed 1985 and submitted by Hazel Moore.
