Crockett Courier newspaper - March 21, 1902 JIM BARROW KILLED He Went to John Hearn's Home Against the ??????? We learned the following part- iculars Monday morning of a kill- ing eleven miles from Crockett on the Augusta road Sunday: Jim Barrow had been (endeavoring?) his att- tention to a daughter of John Hearn. He went to his (property?) Sunday and was met at the gate by Hearn who handed him a note and told him he was not wanted. The note was from Mr. Hearn's daughter and was to the effect that she did not want to or could not see him. Barrow began to curse any woman that would write a note like that to him, cursing the girl's father and cursing out things in general, --?-- informa- tion goes. Hearn ordered Bar- row to leave his premises, which he refused to do. Hearn then went into his house, and as he did so, it is said that Barrow shot at him with a revolver. Hearn got his shot gun and fired one load of shot at Barrow, the load taking effect in the mouth, face and throat, and killing him. Hearn gave himself up to the officers and was placed under bond. It seems from what facts we have learned that Hearn was only protecting his home. The excitement was more than Mr. Hearn's wife could stand and she died from the effects of it. It was an awful day at Mr. Hearn's home. Barrow was drinking and was a widower. Submitted by: Bettie Sarver
