OLD DAILEY FAMILY CEMETERY

About eleven miles west of Grapeland off FM Road 227, two miles north on the old Dailey homestead, three tombstones remain in a plot located in a field adjoining land bought from the Daileys by S. V. McCollum of Houston. Others buried in unmarked graves have been recorded in family Bibles, census records, and the Kyle Book.

On November 28; 1859, Thomas R. Dailey deeded ten acres of land on the Garrison Greenwood League to the Elkhart Baptist Church (located on Elkhart Creek) for a Dalys community church and cemetery. His wife Behethla was the first to be buried here. Not many years later, his son Tandy, the only one of his four sons to survive the Civil War, was buried near Behethla. In 1873, Thomas R. was the last of the Daileys to be buried in this plot. (Information supplied by Mrs. Edna Martin Sims and Miss Jo Ann Dailey).
