Abandoned Cemetery at Rusk (Cherokee County) Abandoned cemetery is located on the east side of HWY 69 south of Rusk. It it right off FM 1102 on the right. It is  an old cemetery in the woods. There are only 3 marked graves now. About 40 years ago there were from 25-30 marked graves. The photo on the left is a picture of the road going to the cemetery. The photo on the right is a view of the cemetery. If you look closely you can see one of the markers about two thirds of the way up, a little to the left.
Abbs Family (Grapeland Area) (Houston County) Established 1973. 12 miles west of Grapeland on FM 227, this family cemetery was first used in 1973.

Abraham B. Elliott Family (Houston County) This family burial ground is located south of Lovelady on FM 230 in the Prairie Point community. To find it. First road east after passing Tantabogue Creek when traveling south. At fork, bear right and travel approx. a mile. The cemetery is in the woods on the Ben Parker heir’s property.

Academy Hill Cemetery (Leon County) Take Mayer Street from FM 542 and go to Post Street. Turn left on Post Street and go to Academy Hill Road. Turn right on Academy Hill road and go about a mile- pass the Durant’s house on the right - and turn left at the next dirt road. You can see a few markers on the left surrounded by big yaupons.

Adaline Platt Hill Cemetery (Houston County) Cemetery is located five miles east on SH 7 from Crockett on land belonging to F. A. Smith, and the former home place of Adaline Platt Hill.

Adams – Little Memorial Cemetery (aka John Adams Memorial Cemetery) (Houston County) Location: From FM 227/FM 1272 Junction in Grapeland, go 7.5 miles west on FM 1272. At the very end of FM 1272, where the pavement ends and it becomes CR 2265, turn right and go 1.6 miles north on CR 2290 (there is Antrim Cemetery sign posted in intersection). Cemetery is in front yard of house on 1712 CR 2290, approx. 73 ft. northeast of road. A marker recently placed there reads: (In J. F. Martin Estate) John Adams died 1852.

Afton Grove-Vinson Cemetery (aka Tilley Cemetery) (Cherokee County)

Ainsworth Grave (Houston County) About a mile down the road from Richardson-Greggs Family Graves is another grave. Once had a marker. 2 gravesites. This land was and/or is M. D. Womack.

Air Corps Cadet (grave site) (Houston County) One grave down Pipe Line Road about 5 miles from Latexo.

Alabama (aka Old Alabama, Jacob Allbright, and Chandler Cemetery) (Houston County) Located west of Porter Springs on FM 132 about 7 miles. Near entrance of the Poller Ranch at the site of Alabama Ferry, now identified with an official Texas Centennial Limestone Marker. The grave of Jacob Allbright, considered the founder of Old Alabama and the Ferry at this Trinity River point, is said to be within sight of his home which was near the entrance of the present farm-ranch. The cemetery, originally Old Alabama, is identified as Chandler Cemetery. Many graves are located in the burial grounds but few are marked. A sister of Fred and Jeff McDonald was probably one of the last burials. Also possibly buried here are second wife of Jacob, Samantha Allbright, his sister Isabell and a child 13 graves dates 1852 through 1910.

Aldredge/Dunn Cemetery (Angelina County) Located West of Lufkin, 1 mile south of Hwy 103 on FM 706. Turn west on FM 1194 off of West Loop 287, when FM 1194 turns south (left) go straight on FM 3150. At the Y at FM 706 and FM 3150, turn right. The cemetery is on the right.

Allen Cemetery (Angelina County) Located in Allentown,south of the FmRd.843 and Allen Gin Rd. intersection on what is known as the "Homestead of Hiram Andrew (Bud)Allen".(now owned by someone else ... I believe)

Allen Family Cemetery (Angelina County) Access to this old burial site was denied by the property owners many months ago, thus the following transcription was taken from the Angelina County Cemetery Records vol.I.
The location is off Hwy.69 north in the Central area.

Allphin Cemetery (Madison County) Allphin Cemetery is located at 7484 FM 2346, Midway, Texas. From the courthouse, go east on Hwy. 21 to FM 2346, then north on FM 2346 to the cemetery on
Alto City Cemetery (Cherokee County) Alto City Cemetery is located of HWY 69onRusk Street 1/4 mile on the right in Alto, Texas.
Anderson-Ellis Cemetery (Trinity County) This cemetery is in Trinity County, Texas. Located east of Lovelady on FM 1280, one mile past the Friday Community, turn left at the cemetery sign.

Andrews Cemetery (Madison County) The Andrews Cemetery is located about two miles north of the intersection
of FM 978 and FM 2289 on the right side of the road. It is enclosed in a cyclone fence. This cemetery is located on family land.

Antioch Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Antioch cemetery is located about five miles SW of Jacksonville, Texas. South from U.S. highway 79 onto FM 747, then south on County Road 3111. The Methodist Church and cemetery are on top of a hill on the left side of County Road 3111.  The cemetery is well maintained and has one huge old oak tree in it.  The entrance is on the West side of the cemetery and the row letters begin with A on the first row inside the entrance.  The earliest burial was in 1918.

Antioch, Lovelady Cemetery (white) (Houston County) Located about 5 miles southwest of Lovelady on FM 230. The short driveway into and through the cemetery leads to the Antioch Baptist Church located at the back of the cemetery. Also has a Texas Historical Commission Historical Marker

Antioch, Lovelady Cemetery (slave)(Houston County) The black section is at the entrance gate, turn right along a fence, the black section is to the east-south fence area. Also has a Texas Historical Commission Historical Marker. By word of many, people state that the slave section is to the north of the Church and the new additions to the church. Lost in the woods, nothing marked, grown over with trees and brush.

Antioch, Ratcliff Cemetery (Houston County) Located off SH 7 between Kennard and Ratcliff in Houston County, is located near Coltharp Community. A sign was erected at the site of the Calthart-Hagerville road intersection directing traffic. The cemetery is about 3 ½ miles on CR 4470. Another sign is just east of the business section of Ratcliff. The distance is about 2 miles and off CR 4720.

Antrim Cemetery (Houston County) Location of the cemetery is about 7.5 miles west of Grapeland on FM 1272. Turn right on a dirt road CR 2290 and go about 2.2 miles. It is just across Mackleroy Spring Branch on a hill to the right. The cemetery is well kept and enclosed by a cyclone fence. It consists of 5.3 acres and derived its name from W. F. Gray who came from Antrim, England in the 1800’s

Arbor Road Burial Site (Houston County) Located in the Arbor Community near the corner of FM 232 and Old Arbor Road. Only 2 infant graves.

Aldrich, Collin (Houston County) Located about 9 miles from Crockett on SH 21 west is a Historical Marker for this early county cemetery. Site was originally a family burial plot, but no markers were visible when the new highway was built. When this was discovered, an acre was set aside, and a memorial marker erected by the State of Texas in 1935. Collin Aldrich, San Jacinto Veteran, First Chief Justice of Houston County., Texas. Born May 2, 1801 and died 1842. A stairway leads from the highway to the marker, which is behind a fence. Marker is easily read, and the area is kept neatly mowed.

Arledge & Jones Cemetery (Houston County) Located about 10 miles east of Crockett off SH 7, within the Dave E. Rains Ranch (1987), practically lost in the woods.

Armstrong Harrison Cemetery (Cherokee County) located about one mile northwest of Alto on the south side of FM 2139.
Arnold Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Arnold Cemetery is in southern Cherokee County, 3 ½ miles northwest of Forest on FM 1911. Surveyed on 11 Jun 2000, verified on 30 Sep 2000. There were 269 graves.

Arnwine Plot (Cherokee County) Arwine Plot is located on Dr. Striplings yard at Lake Jacksonville.

Atkins Cemetery (aka Adkins Cemetery (Houston County) The cemetery is now covered by Houston County Lake (USGenWev) west of Grapeland near Pennington land.
Atoy Cemetery (Cherokee County) There is no entrance sign. Atoy Cemetery is located east of Rusk, Texas, in the Atoy community. At the intersection of Hwy 69 & FM 343 just south of Rusk turn east. Go about 7 miles the cemetery is on the left side of the road.
Augusta Cemetery (Houston County) (aka Boston Cemetery) Located in Augusta on FM 1680, 10 miles east of Grapeland and 0.3 mile of FM 227. John and Lucinda Sheridan, Daniel and Hannah McLeanfirst settlers early 1820’s. The two men killed by Indians, 1837; Sheridan buried by home north of here on Silver Creek. Widow married Mr. Murchison whose wife and children were killed by Indians in Edens-Massacre southwest of San Pedro Crek 1838. Texas Historical Marker issued 1990.

Bailey Cemetery (Leon County) Located south of Oakwood on FM 542 approx. 16 miles, on the right in pasture, private property, gate locked.

Balis Edens Family Cemetery (Houston County) Located about 9 miles west of Grapeland on Private property. Go 6.9 miles west on FM 227, turn right at CR 2235 and go 1/6 mile south. At fork, go right on CR 2245 for approx. 0.6 mile to locked gate. From gate go approx. 0.6 mile to locked gate. From gate go approx. 0.1 mile west north on driveway and stop just before second gate on west side of large pond. Cross Big Elkhart Creek. Cemetery is in a pasture with a fence. Texas Historical Marker issued in 1997.

Ball Cemetery at Alto (Cherokee County) Ball cemetery is located on the Thomas Ball farm NE of Alto. One grave only.

Ball Cemetery at Maydelle (Cherokee County) Ball Cemetery is located 3 miles southeast of Maydelle, in a woods, off a dirt road 3/4 mile.

Bannerman Cemetery (Leon County) Take sh 542 in Oakwood and go south to River Bend Road. Turn left on River Bend Toad. Located on Coleman Carter Land, 6 miles southeast of Oakwood., and past Glaze Lake.

Barge Cemetery (Angelina County) Traveling south from the city of Zavalla on US Hwy 69, turn right on
FM 1270. This will be the first FM road to the left about a mile out of town. About 2 miles out take the Barge Cemetery Rd. to the right.
The cemetery is at the end of this road.

Barron - Thomas Cemetery (Angelina County) (Black) From Athens, S. Palestine, take Farm to Market Road 59 to Cross Roads, at unmarked graves, some are rocks and some are funeral home markers that have been destroyed
by animals. The cemetery is now fenced in to protect what is left of it. The Anderson/Henderson County line marker (concrete) is located in this

Bateman Cemetery (Leon County) From the intersection of SH 7 and SH 79 in Marquez take SH 79 and go south, 3.1 miles it will by the intersection of SH 3. Keep going on SH 79 another 1.1 miles to a gate on the right side of the road. The cemetery is about 100 ft. off the highway. It is behind trees and underbrush and can not be seen from the highway. A 4 foot tall concrete fence that is about 60 ft square encloses the cemetery. The only entrance to the graves is a set of concrete stops that go up three steps on the outside of the enclosure and then three steps down into the burial area.

Bath Union Cemetery (Walker County)

Batson Cemetery (Madison County) This cemetery is located one mile southeast of Normangee, TX on Batson Road. It is about one half mile off the road in a pasture on the east side of the road. It is on private property and has a chain link fence.

Baugh/Peoples Cemetery (Leon County) Located east of Marquez US 79 approx. 4 miles. On Raymond Newsom Land.

Beaver Dam Cemetery (Leon County) Located east of Centerville, SH 7, approx. 6 miles, to CR 204. Left on CR 204, 1 ½ miles, to CR 207, right on CR 207 approx. 3 miles.

Beazley Family Cemetery (Houston County) (aka Reynard Cemetery) (Houston County) Located 11 miles from Grapeland, west on FM 227 then turn left on 2544 to the Glenn Beazley farm; from the gate ¼ mile the graves are under a clump of Cedar trees to the edge of the woods.

Beggs Family Cemetery (Leon County) This cemetery is on Private Land not accessible to the public. Located about 5 miles Northeast of Centerville as the old road went from Centerville to Flo – about a mile or two west of this road on land Robert Beggs bought from Henry White in 1851.

Belote/Spivey Cemetery (Angelina County) Location: on private property owned by the H.C.Polk Ranch located off US HWY.5from Burke community on left side across from Burke Methodist Church,100 yards off US 59.


Benge Cemetery (Cherokee County) Benge cemetery is located to the South and West of Jacksonville, Texas, On County Road 3111, 2-3 miles south of the Antioch communi­ty on the left.  It is very small in a heavily wooded area.  A giant old cedar tree marks the proba­ble spot at which the cemetery began. Many of the older more vulnerable stones have been broken but most have been replaced with newer stones.  The stone for Lola Hill is broken in many pieces and hasn't been replaced.

Bennett Cemetery (Trinity County) Bennett Cemetery is reached by taking SH 94 north from Groveton, Texas, for 12 miles. The cemetery sign is located about 2 miles past Centerville School. Turn left and follow the unpaved road about ¼ mile up a small hill to one of the largest cemeteries in the county.

Bennett Grave (Trinity County) This grave is on private property. Six miles north northwest of FM 3134, in the woods. This gravesite was not located during September-October 2004 survey by Texas Historical Commission.


Benton Cemetery (Trinity County) This cemetery is on private property. Take US 287 west from Groveton or US 287 east from Crockett. Exit to Pennington. Turn on FM 358, about 4 miles turn onto Reese Road; turn right onto Benton Road. At the end of Benton Road turn left at the double gates onto a winding road that will lead through two gates, then the cemetery. You may contact the landowners through Trini8ty County Historical Commission .

Berry Cemetery (Angelina County)


Berry Cemetery (Cherokee County) Berry Cemetery is located on FM 1857 approximately seven miles southwest of Rusk, Texas, at a sharp bend in the road before you get to Sardis Cemetery. At one time this cemetery must have had 25-30 graves but all except the graves below are unmarked.


Berryman Cemetery (Cherokee County) Berryman Cemetery is located 3½ miles northeast of Alto, on the old Forest Hills Plantation on CR 2501, .6 miles east of FM 241. The log house known as Forest Hills was built in 1847 on the property that was part of the original grant for which James Dill, first alcalde of Nacogdoches, petitioned the Spanish government in 1802.

Bethel Cemetery (Leon County) From Flynn take SH 977 and go est 3.8 miles to CR 408. Go south on CR 408 0.3 mile to PR 4180. Go west on PR 4280 0.3 mile. Cemetery is on the left about 100 yeards in a thick grove of trees.

Bethel Cemetery (Houston County) (aka McKelvey Cemeteery) (Houston County)

Bethesda Cemetery (Leon County) From the intersection of SH3 at SH 79 take SH 3 and go south 8.2 miles to CR 470. Turn left on CR 470. Cemetery will be on the left at approx. 1 mile. The highway Cemetery sign on the west side of SH 3 says Bethesda. On the East side of SH 3 there is a wooden sign that says Williams Cemetery. The Cemetery Association calls their Cemetery “Bethesda”

Bethlehem Cemetery (Madison County) Bethlehem Cemetery is located at 4989 Church Ln, North Zulch. It is 15.3
miles from the Madison County Courthouse, west on Hwy. 21 to FM 39, south on FM 39 to FM 1372, west on FM 1372 .1 of a mile to Church Ln and south on Church Ln .3 of a mile.

Blackshear Cemetery (Trinity County) This cemetery is on private property, 5 ½ miles north of Glendale Community, TX on left, there are eleven cedar trees planted in rows for four/four/three and fieldstones without names for the 6 or 8 people buried there.

Blackshear Bend Cemetery (Leon County) Located east of Oakwood on gravel road approx. 6 miles, pass dirt road to Glaze Lake, several more miles on the right, in the woods.

Blair Family Cemetery (Houston County) Located on FM 232 at Shady Grove, 2.2 miles north of US 287. This is a new cemetery, and at present time has 1 grave.

Bluff Cemetery (Leon County) (Black) From Oakwood go south on FM 542 about 8 miles. Turn left at the Bluff Cemetery sign. Follow the road about ½ mile.

Bobbitt Cemetery (Houston County) Located about 5 miles east of Augusta on FM 227. It has about 132 marked graves and about 30 recorded only by numbered slabs with the names in the record book (in 1986). This is a Historical Designation 2005.

Bodan Cemetery (Angelina County)

Bodenheim Cemetery (Houston County) Located 12 miles east of Grapeland at Liberty Hill, off FM 227, then go north on FM 3026.

Boggs Cemetery (Houston County) Located about 3 miles southwest of Austonio off FM 1280 west for 3 miles, left at bend, right on CR 3190, left at bend in road. Sign on gate. The land for the cemetery was given to the community for a cemetery, school and church sometime before 1835 by a Mr. Bobby Boggs. Later the school and church was moved to another location about 2 miles from the cemetery and the new community became known as the Ash Community.

Bobby Slough Burial Plot (Trinity County) Take SH 94 est from Apple Springs to within a mile of the Neches River bridge. On the left you will see a road with a sign indicating Boggy Slough. About 1 ¼ miles north of SH 94.

Boggy Cemetery (Black)(Leon County) From Flynn take FM 977 east across the railroad tracks. As soon as you cross the railroad tracks CR 419 takes off to the left. Take CR 419 and passing CR 422 at 1.9 miles continuing a total of 2.75 miles to the end of CR419/ Thereis a cattle guard here and this is the beginning of PR 4255. Keep on PR 4255 for another 0.41 mile to the nest cattle guard. As soon as you cross this cattle guard turn left onto a pasture road that follows a fence 0.20 miles to a metal gate. Go another 0.25 miles to another metal gate. Go another 0.23 mil to another metal gate (this one is old and best up). At about 400 feet further is another gate. Do no go through this gate, instead turn left as you approach this gate and follow the fence about 100 feet to the entrance of the cemetery/
Bohemian Cemetery (Trinity County) The cemetery is on privately owned land & Davy Crockett National Forest.  The directions given for finding this cemetery were to take State Highway 94 from Groveton, TX, toward Apple Springs, turn right at the Lacy Cemetery sign, go past the Lacy cemetery to Parkers & Roxie Tullos places, take the first road to the left & the Bohemian Cemetery would be on the right side of this almost abandoned road in the woods. You will need an escort to access the cemetery through private land, you must contact the landowner through Trinity County Historical Commission, P.O. Box 123, Groveton, TX 75845.


Boontown Cemetery (Trinity County) To reach Boonetown Cemetery, from Groveton, Texas, take State Highway 94 West seven and 1/2 miles to the Boonetown Cemetery sign (start looking to the right after Westville Road sign or from Trinity, look for the Boonetown Cemetery on the left sign about 1 mile from Friday Road.  Turn on "Boonetown Cemetery Road" for one and three-tenths miles to the cemetery, which is set back on the right side of the road. From Trinity, take State Highway 94 East approximately 13 miles to cemetery sign. Turn left on Friday Road for one and three-tenths miles to the cemetery.

Boswell Cemetery (Walker County)

Bowdoin Cemetery (Houston County) This small cemetery near Porter Springs is located on land that has been in the Bowdoin family since 1847. From SH 7 west of Crockett, go 5.5 miles south on FM 132 (or 3.0 miles south of Porter Springs). Cemetery is located in pasture behind house approx. 175 ft. north of road.

Box Family Cemetery (Houston County) From Latexo US 287 to right on FM 2663 about 3.2 miles east on FM 2663. Turn right at second gate across from brick house and go approx. 0.25 mile south across drainage and field. At this point the cemetery is located approx. 400 ft. due west of the dim road in a wooded grove at the southwest corner of field.

Box-Beeson Cemetery (Houston County) (aka Beeson-Box, and White Rock Cemetery) (Houston County) Located 1.2 miles south of Crockett on SH 10 on what was known as the Leo Knox Ranch. Cemetery is in field on left (east) side of road, approx. 0.35 mile from road, just north of Given Homesite Marker. The cemetery has three 1936 Texas Centennial Markers: (1) Rev. John Thomas Griffin Box, (2) John Andrew Box, (3) John Andrew Box. All veterans of the Battle of San Jacinto. Texas Historical Marker dated 1993.

Boykin Chapel Cemetery (Trinity County) (Leon County) From SH 75 take FM 831 east 7.1 miles to East CR 212. Flo Church is located at this intersection. Go another 1 ½ miles to cemetery sign on FM 831. Located on J. O. Boykin Property.
Bozeman Cemetery (Madison County) This cemetery is located one and one half miles west of Antioch on the Bozeman Ferry Road just past the junction of Antioch Road and Bozeman Ferry Road. The fenced cemetery is on the west side, about one fourth mile into the pasture and straight west of the junction in a grove of trees.


Braden Cemetery (Leon County) Take I-45 to Leona Exit. Go east on FM 977 to FM 1179. Go south (right) on FM 1179 approx. 1.25 miles to Caney Creek. On the north side of Caney Creek on the east side of FM 1179 there is an old oil field road (gate locked). The Cemetery is approx. 1 mile down this old road.

Brazil Cemetery (Angelina County) Location: Angelina County just off Fm.Rd.2251 on private property.

Brent (Houston County) (aka Brent graveyard, and Brent Graves) (Houston County) From Crockett take SH 21 to Ratcliff, turn left onto Forest Service Road 513 for 0.3 mile south; turn left at a Private Road and go 0.4 mile east.

Bridges Cemetery (Houston County) In Mound City area near the north Houston County Line. From FM 228 and FM 2022 junction go 1.0 mile east. Cemetery is located in pasture on north side of road just west of CR 1730.

Brown Cemetery (Houston County) (aka Old Brown) (Houston County) Located about 17 miles east of Crockett in Hickory Creek Community. From SH 7 between Berea and Kennard, go approx. 5.1 miles north on FM 1733. Turn left onto CR 1105 and go 2.7 miles west on CR 1105. The cemetery is approx. 1 mile south-southeast of road on Private Property.

Bullard Memorial Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Bullard Memorial Cemetery is located about one mile Southeast of Bullard, Texas, on the North side of FM 2493, Between FM 2493 and US 69. It is not fenced, but is well maintained and easy to get to.  Marked burials began in 1980 and continue to date.  Row designators begin on the East side of the cemetery.  This survey was done Nov-1996 by Ira Gaylon White.

Burrows Cemetery (Madison County) This cemetery is located off FM 1428 near the Connor Community on Boyd Road. The cemetery is about 1/2 mile down this road on the south side, and back into the pasture about 1/2 mile. It is enclosed in a cyclone fence. Sometimes this cemetery is referred to as McGary Cemetery. It has also been known as Connor Cemetery and Barrett Cemetery.

Campbell – Hall’s Bluff Cemetery (Houston County) (aka Campbell Cemetery #1) (Houston County) Located 10 miles west of Crockett on CR 2065 which is an extension of FM 2076 in the Hall’s Bluff Community. The 2.5 acres donated by Henry Campbell were dedicated in June 1880 and named Campbell.

Campbell Family Plot (Cherokee County) The Campbell family told me about this cemetery. Located on Canada Street just east of Bolton st. under the red warehouse is located this plot and the family used it during the Civil War. A brother of Charlie Campbell, named Willie is buried here. Also a Campbell lady and at least 2 of her children. They died during  the war. It is my belief that she was the mother of the Gov. T.M. Campbell. we may never know but maybe we will find it before our record is complete.

Carson Cemetery (Angelina County) The Carson Family Cemetery is located on private land. It was formerly the old Augustus Marion Carson home place, in Pollok, Angelina County, Texas, off 69 N on the Bodan Creek. This land had originally been a part of a six hundred and forty acre tract out of the Thomas Stovall Survey and had been in the Carson family since December, 1862 until it was sold very recently.

Chambers Cemetery (Angelina County) Location:On private land owned by the Chambers family, entrance to property is locked, permission to access land should be requested before entering as the cemetery is located on a hunting lease. Directions: go south on Hwy.69 past Zavalla, turn left on Co.Rd.382,street sign will read "Chambers Road". The cemetery sign will be on the left side of the road by the locked entrance approx.1 mile down ,the cemetery islocated approx.1/2-3/4 of a mile straight down the path behind the gate, to the left.
The property owner's grandfather had this "road" built in order to access a now long forgotten community and school.The community's name is not knownto me.

Cochran Cemetery (Angelina County) Location: About 11 miles southeast of Huntington; go Hwy.69 south to Huntington
turning onto FM.RD.2109 for about 11 miles then left onto 2801 (Hanks Creek area)then right on Co.RD.363 at the Cochran Cemetery sign, cemetery will be on right side of road. Cochran Cemetery is known for the story that surrounds the small gravestone that is located towards the front & center of the cemetery. It is that of an unknown baby that was left on the doorstep of the Lovelady Family who lived down the road. The old original marker has long since deteriorated and lays in a pile behind a new one that has replaced it. *It reads as follows :"Unknown infant boy found at the home of J.K.LOVELADY on 4-1 and died on 4-3-1899 - MAN WHO ARE YOU "

Collier Cemetery (Angelina County) It is on private land owned by John Henry White 3rd better known as Pete White. 936-422-4429 in Huntington, AngelinaCounty Texas Pete White is a grandson to Henry Collier by his daughter Nona Lee Collier White who married John Henry White 2nd. The land was once known and still is today in Huntington as the "Collier Farm" It was owned by Henry Collier, who had some 16 children by two wives while living on the place. The Cemetery is fenced and has readable manufactored headstones. There are only five graves:

Collin Aldrich Cemetery (Houston County) Located about 9 miles from Crockett on SH 21 west is a Historical Marker for this early county official. Site was originally a family burial plot, but no markers were visible when the new highway was built. When this was discovered, an acre was set aside, and a memorial marker erected by the State of Texas in 1935. Collin Aldrich-San Jacinto Veteran-First Chief Justice of Houston County, Texas. Born May 2, 1801-Died 1842. A stairway leads from the highway to the marker, which is behind a fence. Marker is easily read, and the area is kept neatly mowed.

Concord Cemetery (Anderson County) This cemetery is in the Concord Community in Anderson County. There is a Concord Baptist Church next to the cemetery. This community was called “Fitzgerald Tow” at one time because there were a lot of Fitzgerald’s buried in the cemetery and also some Hanks are buried there.

Connell Family Cemetery (Leon County) The children of bob and Kathy Connell were returning home to Crockett from a Centerville ball game and were killed in an automobile accident. They had been very active in rodeo and other youth programs. They are buried on their grandfather’s ranch, which is located at Thornton, near Centerville, Leon Co., Texas. The plot is fenced and the marker is in the shape of a horse.

Cooper Cemetery (Houston County) Located on SH 21 nine miles southwest of Crockett in southwestern Houston County. It was probably established around 1900. In the mid-1930’s the small community had a church, a cemetery, and a number of houses.

Craddock Cemetery (Trinity County) Craddock Cemetery is located on a peninsula in Lake livingston. To reach the site from Trinity, Texas, go east of town on Farm to Market road 356 about seven miles and look for a peninsula on the right after crossing White Rock Creek.

Crawford/Rowan Cemetery (Angelina County) From Lufkin, take hwy 103 to Old Bonner Road. Make a left and go 1/4 mile.The oldest tombstone in Crawford Cemetery dates back to0 1873, even though the first Crawford was not buried there until 1902. There are numerous graves marked only by petrified wood, stones and bricks.

Creasy Cemetery (Houston County) Take SH 7 to Kennard. Located about 4.6 miles south of Kennard. Take CR 4215 continue on CR 4265 another 1.2 miles to site of dimly visible on right.

Daniel McLean Family Cemetery (Houston County) Located about 20 miles northeast of Crockett on SH 21 (Old San Antonio Road) near FM 227 cutoff. On McLean’s original land grant.

Daugherty Cemetery (Cherokee County) Daugherty cemetery is located to the South and West of Jacksonville, Texas, off State road 747, just South and west of the Antioch community on County road 3114. It is by the Tenney Chapel CME church in the Pine Grove community. It consists of a large rectangular area with three fairly distinct divisions.  An older section on the Eastern end that is maintained, A central section that is overgrown and covered by trees, both standing and fallen, briars and brush, and a newer section on the western end that is well maintained.

Davis Family Cemetery – Grapeland (Houston County) Located 6 miles northwest of Grapeland off FM 1272, this family cemetery was accorded a Historical Marker in 1979 for the three sons of pioneer Bradford Davis who came from Mississippi in 1838 and was killed by Indians as he checked his bee bait on Mustang Prairie. These three sons and their families who are buried in the cemetery.

Davy Crockett National Forest Site (Trinity County) Cemetery is located on federal land. From Groveton; US 287 southeast to FM 2262. Left (NE) on FM 2262 0.3 miles to US Forest Service Road 573 on north side (no sign). North 1.0 miles to cemetery on east side 75 yards in woods, opposite small grass pull-in.  This site is located in pine woods. You may need an escort to find the cemetery. 


Dean Cemetery (Trinity County) (aka John Dean Cemetery) (Trinity County) This cemetery is on private property. From Groveton take SH 94 west 2.8 miles to Joe Hudson Road. Left (south) 1.3 miles to locked gate & entrance to Dean Creek Hunt Club. Follow private gravel road 1.3 miles to gravel road split to west. Follow road as it curves at total of 1.9 miles to cemetery on east side, upon a small rise. It is on a large hunting lease, so no one visits during hunting season without checking first. The cemetery is also known as John Dean Graveyard.


Dear Place Cemetery (Cherokee County) We were unable to get the names and dates of these people, while checking in this area. there seems to have been 3 graves, at one time and since lost. I understand that two of the graves were of Mr. De La Fosse Cemetery (Trinity County) This cemetery is on private property. To find the De La Fosse Cemetery: from Groveton, Texas, take FM 355 to Sebastapol. Turn left on FM 356 to Onalaska. Turn left on Hwy. 190, go a short distance, turn left on FM 3459. Go approximately 3 miles to De La Fosse Cemetery Road, turn right on that road, go approximately 1-1/3 miles to fork in road, turn right, cemetery is less than .10 mile on left (look for rusty chain link fence at edge of woods). This is now the Lige Ratcliff Place, where Pierre De La Fosse settled when he came to Texas.

She was born in Maryland, Helena Kimble (1770-1848) married James Dill, 1786, moved to Nacogdoches then under Spanish rule 1793. Dill was elected alcalde, (mayor) of Nacogdoches 1821-1823, he died in 1825.

Douglas Cemetery (Cherokee County) Douglas Cemetery is located about two miles southwest of Bullard School. From the intersection of FM 2493 & FM 344 go west .3 miles to School House Rd. Turn left on School House Rd & go .5 miles, the cemetery is on the right. A double fence, brick pillars with wrought iron, encloses the cemetery, the first surrounds the grounds which has walkways and trees like a park. The second fence surrounds the cemetery itself. The entire complex is immaculately maintained. The markers are all white marble and very ornate, some with statues that are almost lifesize. This cemetery is exclusively for Douglas related families and both fences are kept locked. The trust department at Southside Bank in Tyler must be contacted for an appointment should you wish to tour the cemetery. The cemetery survey was done by Gaylon White in Dec 1996 and was published by the Cherokee County Genealogical Society in 1997.

The Boykin Cemetery will be down a short lane on the left.

Freeman Cemetery (Angelina County) Location: 2.2 miles west of Lufkin,Texas off Hwy.94W , go right on Freeman Cemetery Road. This cemetery is in 2 parts , the road divides it .The left side is the oldest w/ the right side being the newest. The names will be listed as "left or right side of road".


French Memorial Cemetery (Trinity County) The French Memorial Cemetery, also known as the Old French Cemetery, is approached through private property. In previous editions this cemetery was listed with Millican/Milligan Cemetery. They are separate cemeteries. This land was developed in 1887 for this cemetery. It contains 4.4 acres. There are very few stones with names. Charlie Elliott has put crosses in place of unnamed stones.


Furlough Cemetery (Houston County) No markers. South of Creek Community off of FM 1280. It is some 200 yeards west of the old Walter Kyle homeplace which burned, the grave marker stones have all disappeared.

Germany Cemetery (Houston County) (aka Germany Church Cemetery and Pleasant Hill ) (Houston County) see Germany Cemetery (Houston County) Road sign 12 miles east of Crockett on SH 21 points direction to one-time thriving community of Germany. Half mile down the road another sign directs turn and further half mile the New Pleasant Hill Church appears. The cemetery, atop the hill at left of Church, is believed to have been started during 1860’s. First read by Sally Strong.

George Cemetery (Madison County) George Cemetery is located about five miles south of Normangee at the intersection of FM 39 N and FM 1452 W.

Gilbert Chapel Cemetery (Angelina County) Traveling south on HWY.69 this cemetery will be located approximately 3.5 miles down FM.Rd.326 South on the right side of the road in the community known as Bald Hill .It is small and easily overlooked as it sits back off the road in a secluded corner.

Gilliland-Boykin Cemetery (Angelina County) Directions: Take Highway 69 to Zavalla, Texas and at the red light, turn onto Highway 63. At the "Y" intersection, turn left across the "Y" onto Highway 147. Stay on Highway 147 until it intersects with 3123 West (before reaching the Sam Rayburn Lake Bridge). Turn left on 3123 West (going toward Cassell/Boykin Park) and then turn left on Gilliland Cemetery Road. The cemetery is about 2 miles down this road on the left. However, it is over grown and the fence is beginning to fall down. There are innumerable pieces of tombstones scattered throughout the cemetery. Some are stacked in piles, but are mostly illegible.


Glass Felps Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Glass-Felps cemetery, as the name implies, contains the graves of persons associated with the Glass and Felps families.  It is located south of Jacksonville Texas on the west side of FM 2138.  It is difficult to see from the road as it is on a slight embankment up from the road shoulder, and behind some brushy growth.  Large oak trees and Crepe Myrtles on top of the embankment will assist in locating it.  It is almost exactly 4 miles south of the intersection of South Bolton St. and FM 2138.  The oldest marked grave is that of Britton Felps Jr. who died in 1850.

Holly Springs Cemetery (Cherokee County) Holly Springs cemetery is located Between Rusk and Maydelle, Texas, just north of US Highway 84 on County Road 1702.  The cemetery is at the end of a dirt road in a wooded unpopulated area.  Keep bearing to the left on the dirt road.  Holly Springs is a mixed cemetery with most burials those of people of African-American descent.

Hoot Cemetery (Cherokee County) Hoot Cemetery is located in the Morrill Community off old Highway 69, south of Alto, Texas. The land was bought by Woodsmen of the World, back when Morrill was a thriving fruit shipping center. This was a free cemetery and several acres. Sadly, only a few grave markers remain.

Inman-Mason Cemetery (Trinity County) This lost cemetery is on private property, in the general vicinity of Glendale. Per the first edition of Trinity County Cemeteries, the cemetery is located on the Mason Place The general location of the cemetery is from Glendale Community, Texas, go east on State Highway 94, turn right at the Saron Cemetery sign (east Glendale Loop road). Continue past Buck Hill to the Mason hill between Sandy and Dad’s Creeks. The Inman place was northwest of the Mason place. No evidence of this cemetery was found during the search for it 26 September 1977. This cemetery has not been surveyed.

Inmates Burial Ground (Houston County) (Eastham Prison Farm)(aka Peckerwood Hill) (Houston County) Established during the 1930’s and located about 300 yards west-north-west from the Old Prison Unit are 30 white grave markers which have been fenced in with barbed wire. Brought to the attention of the Houston County Historical Commission during October 1999 through Officer John Massingill with assistance from Kelly Goodson. This makes 3 burial grounds on the Eastham Prison Unit.

Jacob Masters Family Graves (Houston County) The search for this lost burial ground continues. Commission members believe it to be east of Crockett off SH 21 some 6 miles, then north of the highway some 3 or 4 miles.  Another thought, which has surfaced since the 1978 publication and with searches made during fall of 1985, is that the family cemetery was bulldozed to make right of way for SH 21 which was changed around 1930s

James Cemetery (Houston County) Located 6 miles from Crockett on FM 229. Was established in the early 1880’s. A Post Office opened there in 1881, and by 1885 the settlement had steam grist and shingle mills, a general store, a cotton gin, a church, a district school, and an estimated population of 100. Remains of the cemetery can not be found.

Joel W. Stowe Cemetery (Houston County) Joel Wells Stowe and wife Hannah Goolsby Stowe settled on a tract of land at San Pedro Community near San Pedro Creek in the early 1800’s. The Joel Stowe survey extended on both sides of FM 2022 (Rusk Road). They were buried in a small cemetery on their land, as are some members of their family.

John Adams Grave Site (Houston County) From FM 227/FM 1272 junction in Grapeland, go 7.5 miles west on FM 1272. At the very end of FM 1272, where the pavement ends and it becomes CR 2265, turn right and go 1.6 miles north on CR 2290, approx. 73 ft. northeast of road. To reach cemetery, start at the signal light at Main & Robb Streets in Trinity, TX, travel west on Main Street 0.6 mile to Lone Star Baptist Church, turn north into the church driveway to behind the church & less than 0.1 mile to the cemetery.  It borders on the east by Trinity Cedar Grove Cemetery and on the south by Lone Star's north boundary line.  The cemetery is behind the church. 

Johnson Cemetery (Angelina County) Location of this cemetery is in southeastern Angelina County near the Kitchens cemetery. It is an old abandoned cemetery, like so many , lost and forgotten about , so time and nature have reclaimed it.

Jones Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Jones cemetery is located south of Jacksonville Texas on the north side of CR 1605 which connects US 69 with FM 347.  Turn to the right from US 69 onto CR 1605 and go exactly one mile.  The Jones farm is across a cattle guard to the right located at a sharp curve in the road.  The cemetery is on that farm and is on private property.  Once through the cattle guard the cemetery is on the left, just past an old home place with a chimney built of stones.  It is a small cemetery and both it and the surrounding pasture are well maintained.  The earliest marked grave is for John Jones who died in 1857.

The gravesite is to the right of the lane just inside the property.

Kilgore Family Plot (Cherokee County) The John Kilgore Family Plot is located at the entrance to the state Hospital in Rusk, TX, HWY 69. There are no marked graves. Looks to be 3 or 4 graves. This family was the only white people living in the Indian village when it was purchased from the Indians.


Killough Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Killough Memorial and cemetery is located to the South of FM 855 about 3 miles West of Mt. Selman, Texas, On County Road 3431.  Go west from Mt. Selman about 2 1/2 miles, then turn south on County Road 3405, go about 1/4 mile, then turn west on County Road 3411, go about 1/2 mile, then turn south on County Road 3431.  County Road 3431 dead ends at the Killough site.  All roads are paved roads but narrow in places.  The cemetery is enclosed in a chain link fence, and in the center is a 12 foot monument built of native rocks and concrete.

Largent Cemetery (Angelina County) The Largent Cemetery is located in the Bethlehem Community, West of Lufkin, Texas, between Highway 94 West and Highway 103 West, on Ben DUNN Road off of FM 706. These records were copied from information provided by Thomas Earl LARGENT and from data obtained from the Kurth Library, Lufkin, Texas. Where no dates appear this is due to the persons having tombstones or purchased plots and are still living, in some instances the grave markers have been lost with the passage of time. Mr. William J. LARGENT was the first person to be buried in the cemetery. He was born on 10/1/1800 and died 08/18/1862. His wife Martha ALBRITTON was born on 1/16/1803 and died in 11/1865. At the time of their deaths the cemetery was located only on land that was owned by the immediate LARGENT family. Adjoining land was deeded to the cemetery by G. W. DUNN and W. E. DUNN in 1916. In 1971, a portion of land was donated by Mr. & Mrs. D. H. WOOD along with another portion belonging to heirs Mr. & Mrs. Howard W. GANN, Mr. & Mrs. Jack R. WYETH, Mr. & Mrs. Leroy M. WILLIAMSON, Mr. & Mrs. Brice C. GANN and Mrs. Ina GANN BERRY (widow of Hobby BERRY).

Larissa Cemetery (Cherokee County) located at the intersection of CR 3706 and FM 855, which runs west from Mt. Selman, Texas.  It is north of FM 855 and west of CR 3706.  The cemetery is well maintained and has marked burials that began as early as 1850.  It has a pavillion, is enclosed in a chain link fence, and has two rows of old magnolia trees running east and west through it.

Lester, Child Plot (Trinity County) This grave site is on private property. To get to the Lester Grave, from Apple Springs, take FM 375 south to Helmic - Apple Springs Road. Right (west) .3 miles to Forest Service Road 567. Go right .5 miles to private grass road on right side. Follow road .7 miles to grass road on left (south) side, through gate into pasture. Lewis Family Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Lewis family cemetery is located on the North side of US 175 between Cove Springs and Reese, Texas, about 8 miles Northwest of Jacksonville, Texas.  It is in a wooded area but has a driveway into it and is well maintained.  The earliest marked burial is that of J. R. Lewis in 1915.

Cemetery is in pasture on northeast side of road. The Mackleroy Cemetery is located approx. 0.4 mile east-southeast of the Antrim Cemetery, on the same property as the John Adams Gravesite. When road bends sharply to left, go straight across cattle guard and through gate. Follow private ranch road 0.4 mile to third gate the road forks. Stay to the left for another 0.4 mile. The road well enter a large field. At this point to south and east across field, following tree line for approx. 0.2 mile.

Marshall-Parker Cemetery (Angelina County) This cemetery is now included,(along with several others, which will be listed seperately) in the area known as Concord Cemetery, located 5 miles SE of Zavalla, Tx. on Hwy.63.It was relocated in the 1959-1960 time span, when Lake Sam Rayburn was built by the US Corps. of Engineers.

From Weldon, go 4 miles south to the entrance of Eastham Prison Unit. Where FM 230 bends sharply to the left, go southwest on PR 7000 approx. 1.6 miles south southeast across cattle pasture. The cemetery is on south side of road, on a knoll. Must get permission from the Warden at the eastham Prison Unit.

McBride/McBryde Cemetery (Angelina County) Location is in the area of FmRd.328 in the Huntington community off Fm Rd.2109. In the year 1967 when this research was first submitted to the Angelina County Cemetery Records there was only 1 marker left but there were signs of others having been there throughout the woods.(3 graves near the 1 marked grave,but no stones)


McBride Scrub Creek Cemeteries (Trinity County) Location and history of the cemetry were given on January 22, 1992 by Mr. Earl Lester. Mr. William Due purchased the land from the I & GN Railroad. Two acres were allocated for a cemetery. Later, Mr. I. Friedman purchased the property. In 1909, Mr. Joe Terry bought the land and in 1910 Mr. Earl Lester was the purchaser. Mr. Lester knew about the cemetery, and could tell by the mounds that there were seven graves. There was no identification other than seeing a member of the McBride family tend to the graves occasionally. All indications of graves have been obliterated. This family lot has always been known to Mr. Lester as the McBride Cemetery.

McClain Cemetery (Trinity County) This cemetery is on private property. From Groveton, take State Highway 94 east 9.4 miles, turn left on Farm to Market road 358, one mile to Farm to Market road 211, then 2.3 miles on a county road. Turn right, go. 0.7 miles, turn right on a dirt road & go 0.3 miles to top of a hill & the cemetery & about 75 yards away & down the hill is a small family group.

McClain, Zid Cemetery (Trinity County) This cemetery is on private property. To approximately locate the Zid McClain Cemetery, go east from Centralia, TX, on an unpaved road for about three miles, pass the sign to Perry-Beasley Cemetery & at the next left road, turn left. You should be facing a locked gate.

McClure Cemetery (Angelina County) Location: Hwy.103 East, opposite side of road from Thomas Crossing (right side),turn on Co. Rd.# 150 , sign will read: McClure Barron Cemetery Road, proceed 1.2 miles, cemetery on left. There was no sign on this cemetery at the time of our survey.

McCracken Cemetery (Cherokee County) McCracken cemetery is located near Pleasant Grove (West of Maydelle, Texas) north of Hwy 84 and south of Pleasant Grove.  It is on an old road trace to the west of County Road 1804.  Harold and Sylvia Acker surveyed this old cemetery in Oct 1991 and described the trek to it as covered with briar patches.

McDonald Cemetery (Cherokee County) Located on SH 110 at New Summerfield, south on 110 at the city limits. This cemetery is quite old and has a great number of unidentified concrete markers. These markers were placed in the 1980’s to identify the site of a grave. According to a cemetery association board member from that era, an area under a group of trees on the south side of the cemetery, had at one time been fenced off. This was known as the area where the "old maids" were all buried.


McKelvey Cemetery (Houston County) in the Tadmore Community. From Crockett take SH 7 to Ratcliff. Go 3.4 miles north on FM 227. Turn left at CR 1135 and go 1.6 miles; turn left through metal gate. Cemetery is about 0.1 mile further. There is a sign posted at the entrance.

McKindree Cemetery (Angelina County) Location: going east on Hwy.103 from Lufkin go about 4 miles, turn left on McKindree Road (will be street next to small grocery store),cemetery will be on right at corner across from McKindree Church.

McQueen Cemetery (Houston County) From US 287/FM 2663 junction in Latexo, go 1.1 mile north on US 287. Turn left at private driveway with Bennett sign. Follow ranch road 0.1 mile to west. From house, go right through gate. Follow ranch road to left, behind barns, through two gates, and across shallow drainage ditch. At fourth gate, turn left. Cemetery is a few feet south of gate on west side of fence row.

M. D. Womack (Houston County) Located west of Grapeland, take FM 227 west about 15 miles to CR 2260. Go north 3.7 miles to the county line. On left down private road and go 0.2 mile to the county line. Cemetery is in pasture and can be seen from the county road.

Meador Cemetery (Cherokee County)
From the intersection of U.S. 69 and U.S. 79 in downtown Jacksonville go east 2.1 miles on Highway 79 N to the intersection of 79 and Highway 204 (Loop 456) then south 1.5 miles to where Highway 204 turns east towards Nacogdoches 2.1 miles to the intersection of 204 and County Road 1411. The cemetery is on the southeast corner of the intersection and is marked with a sign over a gate. The entrance is about 100 yards south on County Road 1411. The cemetery is well maintained and has a shelter with some tables for public use.

Meredith Cemetery (Cherokee County) Meredith Cemetery is located off Hwy 84 east. It is approx. 3.5 miles from Rusk, look for a church,  turn right on CR 1202 and go .4 miles. When the road T's you will see the church, go into the parking lot and look for CR 1203. The dirt road dead-ends into the cemetery. There is no entrance sign. This cemetery is also called Bethel Cemetery

Mexican Cemetery (at old Coal Mine) (Houston County) This cemetery is located just north of Lovelady off of SH 19. Just before the first big curve after leaving Lovelady, you will see a Historical Marker about the Houston-Leon County Coal Company on your right. About ¼ mile past that on your left you will see pavement from an old road and then to into the woods. This abandoned cemetery has become port of the woods.

Mexican Prisoner Grave (Houston County) Located out from Ratliff, prisoner buried where he was killed in an attempt to recapture him after his escape from Rusk Prison.

Midway Cemetery (Madison County) Midway Cemetery is located on Highway 21 across from the Midway City Hall
and next door to the Church of Christ. Midway is 12 miles east of Madisonville on Highway 21.

Miles Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Miles cemetery is located about four miles SW of Jacksonville, Texas. South from U.S. highway 79 onto FM 747, then south on County Road 3111. The cemetery is just over the top of a hill on the right side of County Road 3111. It is about two hundred yards down an unpaved lane on the right.  The cemetery is about 100 yards square enclosed in a barbed wire fence.  A pasture complete with cattle surround it.  Although covered by trees it is occasionally mowed, but leaves and twigs are about six inches deep.  Most graves are unmarked and some marked graves have broken and partially missing stones.  Row designations proceed from East to West. 

Miller Cemetery (Madison County) This cemetery is located on Grant Road, you take State Highway 21 West from Madisonville, to FM 1372, turn left. Grant Road is first road to East. The grave is about 100 feet down Grant Road from intersection at very edge of road.

Millican Chapel Cemetery (Trinity County) see Milligan Chapel Cemetery (Trinity County) This cemetery is on private property. To find this cemetery, take Hwy 19 south from Trinity until you find FM 1617, turn right. Go about 1 mile after crossing Bell Creek, & immediately start looking to right to find the cemetery. . Go about 1 mile crossing Bell Creek, and immediately start looking to right to find the cemetery. Rumor has it that the name has been officially changed to Milligan Chapel Cemetery. To quote our 2d edition of Trinity County Cemeteries: According to Mr. & Mrs. Robert A. Turner, the name is spelled with a "C", and pronounced by East Texas with a "G". The First Methodist Church was called Millican (as pronounced by East Texans) Chapel.

Mills Cemetery (Madison County) From the intersection of OSR and FM 1452 W go east on FM 1452 to David Ln. Turn right onto David Ln. and go south .75 miles to Joe David's driveway. Turn right into Joe David'sdriveway, past his house and barn and to his back fence, which is about .25 miles. There is a gate in his back fence. At this point, look to the left and you will see a very large cedar tree in an open pasture, about 200 feet south of the gate and about 50 feet west of the fence line.

Continue straight ahead on Farm to market road 233 one mile, turn left on Eire Davidson road, then right on Max Due road. The cemetery is about 300 feet from the Due home.

Mount Comfort (Cherokee County) Mt. Comfort cemetery is located near Maydelle, Texas, just north of US Highway 84, on County Road 1708.  The cemetery is very large in area but has lots of empty space in the rows.  It is entirely enclosed by chain link fencing and is very well maintained and orderly.  In the extreme southeast corner of the en­closed area is a separate group of graves known as the Conner cemetery.  Marked burials began with that of Dana Sherman in December 1878. 

Mount Hope Cemetery at Mt. Hope (Cherokee County) To find Mt. Hope Cemetery started from the Square in Rusk on Hwy 84 going West go approx. 2 miles and turn left on FM 1248. Go 5.5 miles to Mt. Hope Cemetery sign turn right go approx. .9 miles on FM 2626. Church is on the right and the Cemetery is on the left.

Mount Moriah Cemetery (Houston County) (aka Ramsey Cemetery) Located south of Crockett on SH 21 about 5 miles on right. Well marked

Mount Nevelton Cemetery (Cherokee County) Mt. Nevelton cemetery is located on the West side of County Road 3707, about 2 miles South of Bullard, Texas.  It is located behind the Mt. Nevelton CME Church.  The cemetery has a dry creek bed running North and South through the center.  Rows A - E are on the East side of this creek bed and rows F - L are on the West.  It is an African-American cemetery and has burials dating as far back as 1903.  The cemetery is surrounded by pasture and contains several large Oaks.  It is well main­tained and easily accessed.

This old cemetery has served as a public burial site for the inhabitants of Apple Springs, Alabama Creek, Trevat and Helmic Communities since its inception.

Myrtle Springs Cemetery (Cherokee County) North on Hwy 110 from Rusk to SR 204; right a few yards to FM 2274 left on 2247 approx. 1.3 miles to CR 4501 then left approx 1 mile to cemetery. (Surveyed in December-2001) Begun during the 1860's this cemetery served as a burial ground for citizens of the town of Lone Star as well as other scattered settlements in the area. Many homesteads were located nearby and a Union church was attended by many families until the 1920's. The cemetery is located on land deeded to the Myrtle Springs Church by area pioneer, Thomas Garrison.

It is located on private property and permission is needed to visit it.

Native American Cemetery (Trinity County) This lost cemetery is probably on private property, located approximately three miles east of Groveton off of Hwy 94. This was near where the G. L. & N. Railroad crossed the highway. By tradition, area also called “Indian Burial Ground”.

Old Baptist Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Old Baptist cemetery is located just southwest of the site of the old town of Larissa.  Heading west from Mt. Selman, Texas, on FM 855, turn left on CR 3405.  Go about 1/4 mile and turn right on CR 3411.  Go about 200 yards and turn left on CR 3435.  Go about 100 yards and turn left again on CR 3436.  CR 3436 goes across a small creek and curves right up a hill and comes to a dead end at a metal pasture gate.  Inside the gate there is a cleared field with a section of woods bulging into it from the right (west) side.  The cemetery is in that bulging section of woods.


Old Bethel Cemetery (Grimes County) Old Bethel Cemetery is located in Grimes County. It is reached, however, by going down FM 1372 in Madison County to Bethel Cemetery Rd.   Right-of-way has been obtained and the road now leads directly to the cemetery.


Old Brown Cemetery (Houston County) Located about 17 miles east of Crockett in Hickory Creek Community. From SH 7 between Berea and Kennard, go approx. 5.1 miles north on FM 1733. Old Larissa Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Old Larissa cemetery is located just southwest of the site of the old town of Larissa.  Heading west from Mt. Selman, Texas, on FM 855, turn left on CR 3405.  Go about 1/4 mile and turn right on CR 3411.  Go about 300 yards or just past CR 3435.  The cemetery is on the left on a hillside, through a metal cattle gate.  The oldest part of the cemetery is enclosed in a rectangular chain-link fence and contains graves of some early white settlers.  To the East and south of this fenced area, mostly in the woods and undergrowth are graves of both white people and people of African-American descent.  To the north and west of the fenced area are the graves of people of African-American descent only.  There are undoubtedly markers in the south and east wooded area that we did not find.  Clearing of the area there would most likely yield more information.

Old Latexo Cemetery (Houston County) Los cemetery, still shows on county maps. Northwest of Latexo on John A. Goolsby Survey (A451). From US 287 in Latexo at the blinking light, turn west onto Old Latexo Road, beside the Methodist Church and travel 0.5 mile through a bend to a Y; take the left fork to cross the RR tracks, where the road becomes CR 2124 after 0.2 mile at a T, turn right onto CR 2120. Travel to CR 2155 the last road before Little Elkhart Creek. Site of Old Truevine Independent Baptist Church is at intersection, cemetery is about 0.5 mile to the northwest.

Old Renfro Cemetery (Angelina County) Location: southeast Angelina county.From Lufkin Take Farm Road 58 to the intersection with Farm Road 1818. Turn left, proceed one-fourth mile, turn right on Grimes Cemetery road, proceed one and seven tenths miles. A locked chain gate on left is the entrance to Tower Hunting Club(private). Follow this road about three-quarters to one mile straight to cemetery on left.

Old Rock Cemetery (Madison County) From the intersection of FM 39 N and FM 1452 W go west to Blagraves Rd. Turn left on Blagraves and go south .85 miles to B. G. Pierce Rd. (In bygone years, this road was known as Old Rock Cemetery Rd.) Turn right on B. G. Pierce Rd. and go west .30 miles.The cemetery is to the right about 100 feet off the road in the trees. You cannot see the cemetery from the road. Rocks and tombstones are scattered all around in the woods. There are a lot of field stones with markings on them, but you cannot read them. A lot of the listings below were very hard to read, but I tried not to guess at what was there, although I had to guess some. We found three concrete markers, the rest were field stones. There are dozens and dozens of stones that do not have anything on them. The cemetery was fenced at one time but is not now. This cemetery will be lost as soon as someone buys theproperty and wants to clear the woods.

Old Rock Hill Cemetery (Cherokee County) Old Rock Hill cemetery is located in the Reese community near Jackson­ville, Texas.  It is on the east side of County Road 3410 to the north of US Hwy 175.  It is located on private property owned by the Mrs. Ollie Handley family, and is extremely overgrown and covered with brush and fallen trees.  Headstones are scattered throughout the cemetery with no distinguishable rows, so in this listing all are listed as row A.  There are many unmarked graves and empty spaces which probably contain graves.  This cemetery, used by people of African-American descent, has marked burials as early as 1883 and as late as 1934.  It is no longer in use as current burials are in the new Rock Hill cemetery, also located in Reese.

Plainview Cemetery (Cherokee County) (Black) Surveyed in October of 2001. This African American cemetery is located near the intersection of Hwy 110 and Hwy 204, in the community of Ponta. According to the caretaker, Homer Johnson, the McKinnies in Row 8 are the only Caucasians buried here. From the intersection, go .2 mi east on Hwy 204; north on FM 2274 for .1 mi; east on CR 4401 approx .2 mi.on the north side of the road. Some sections of this cemetery are quite overgrown and has many unmarked graves and broken stones; especially on the older side (west).

Plainview Cemetery (Madison County) Located 4 miles south of Normangee down FM 39 to FM 1452, west on FM 1452 for 3 1/2 miles. The cemetery is on the north side of the road, 16124 FM 1452 W.

Pleasant Grove Cemetery (Cherokee County) Pleasant Grove cemetery is located about one mile west of Maydelle, Texas, just to the north of U.S. highway 84 on county road 1804.  It is a large, well maintained cemetery alongside the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  The cemetery is in two parts, the newer of which is on the west side of county road 1804.  The older part, L shaped, is on the east side of county road 1804 along with the Church.

Pleasant Hill Cemetery) (Houston County) Road sign 12 miles east of Crockett on SH 32 points direction to one-time thriving community of Germany. Half mile down the road another sign directs turn and further half mile the New Pleasant Hill Church appears. The cemetery, atop the hill at left of Chruch, is believed to have been started during the 1860’s. Dates from about 1889 to present.

Pleasant Hill Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Pleasant Hill cemetery is located Southwest of Bullard, Texas, on the east side of FM 2137 just before its junction with FM 855.  Enclosed in a hurricane fence, this small cemetery is well main­tained and easily accessed.  Marked burials began in the mid 1850's making it one of the older cemeteries in this area.  Current burials seem to be rare with the last occurring in 1989.

Pleasant Plains Cemetery (Cherokee County) Pleasant Plains Cemetery is located NE of  HWY 79, turn north on 110 and west on 4227.  The cemetery will be 1.3 miles on your left.

Pleasant Ridge Cemetery (Leon County)

Pleasant View Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Pleasant View cemetery is located on the East side of County Road 3104, which runs to the west of FM 347 just south of the loop of Jacksonville, Texas.  It includes burials that are exclusively of people of African-American descent.  Surrounded by pasture and woods it is non the less easily accessed.  Full of weeds and fallen trees and brush but appears to have been mowed occasional­ly.  The graves are not in identifiable rows but scattered through­out with many un­marked graves and empty space.  All entries were given the row designa­tor of A.  Marked burials began in 1907.

Poland Cemetery (Angelina County) Directions: Take Highway 69 to Zavalla, Texas. At the red light, turn
onto the Zavalla Cemetery Road (road NOT Highway 63). Go about one mile and turn left onto Sandy Creek Road. Then go about two miles and the Poland Cemetery will be on the left up on a hill. There is no sign.

Pollard Cemetery (Houston County) Private graves south of Lovelady off of SH 19 on property owned by a paper company. Very hard to find.

Price Cemetery (Madison County) This cemetery is located on the Forrest Ranch on State Highway 247 South, till you get to Harper Lane, turn left on Harper this will dead end, and the cemetery is in the pasture. This is private land.


Providence Cemetery (Cherokee County) Providence Cemetery is located about 5 miles south of Jacksonville, Texas, on FM 347 just out of Dialville. When Mr. Mid Deason died, Mrs. Deason wanted him buried on the knoll under the trees. She wanted him buried where each time she walked out on her porch she could see his grave. She stood on her porch, and when the men got to the right place, she waved her bonnet at them and there they dug the grave.

Ragsdale Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Ragsdale cemetery is located just north of US Hwy 79 about 1 mile from Jacksonville, Texas.  Turn north on CR 3304 from US 79 across the railroad track and the cemetery is on the right.  It is fenced and well maintained.  The cemetery has been used by African-American families since the early 1880's and continues to the present.  There are many unmarked graves and empty spaces which may contain graves.  The earliest marked grave is that of Walter Jones who was buried in 1881.

Randolph Cemetery (Madison County) Located east of Normangee, 2 1/2 miles on OSR to Dawkins Rd. (CR 321) and two miles south on Dawkins Rd., 5577 Dawkins Rd.


Randolph Cemetery (Trinity County) This cemetery is located on private land. The abandoned Randolph Cemetery is located near Nigton, Texas. From Apple Springs, Texas, take Farm to Market road 357 to the cemetery, which is located on private property. The Randolphs were grandparents of the C. H. Crow family. According to Mrs. Elaine Lockhart in 1992, two of Mrs. Randolph’s slaves are buried in this cemetery.


Rayburn Cemetery (Madison County) This cemetery is located 10 miles southeast of Madisonville. Take State Highway 21 east, turn right on FM 1428, go approximately 4.5 miles, turn left at Turner Lane. This cemetery is on private property.

Cemetery is located in wooded area on right (east) side of road where road bends sharply to the left. One Marker

Reese Cemetery (Cherokee County) Reese cemetery is located in the Reese community near Jackson­ville, Texas.  It is on the south side of US Hwy 175.  It is very well maintained and is easily accessed.  With marked burials that began in 1919, it is not one of the earliest cemeteries in this area, but is still in use at this time.  Rows are well defined and contain very little empty spaces or unmarked graves, so the standard row designations apply to this listing.  Row A begins on the East end of the cemetery and starts from South to North. 

Refuge Cemetery (Houston County) Located 5 miles east of Grapeland on FM 227 to CR 1870 about ½ mile. Contact information: Misty Brown, Ft. #4 Box 200, Grapeland, Texas 75844. Dated from about 1889 to present very active.

Resthaven Cemetery (Cherokee County) Resthaven cemetery is located on Pineda street in Jacksonville, Texas. From North Bolton turn onto Kickapoo and go .6 miles, turn right on Pineda and the cemetery will be on your left .2 miles. It is a beautiful cemetery with a circle drive.

Reynolds Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Reynolds cemetery is located west of Jacksonville, Texas on the Sid Dudley farm at Ironton.  It is on private property and is really overgrown.  Go west from Jackson­ville on US 79 and turn right on CR 3210 then almost immediately turn right again on CR 3214 and cross a railroad track.  Turn left just past the railroad on CR 3212.  The Dudley home place is on the right about 100 yards down CR 3212, past the house about 200 yards and on the right side is a gate made of steel pipe and painted orange.  Inside the gate there are several old logging road tracks but unless in a pickup, you should walk in.  The cemetery is on the left hand track about 100 yards north.  On the left of that track look for huge old cedar trees which were probably planted when the cemetery started.  The oldest marked grave is 1868.

Cemetery is across the highway on your right, seet off a little from the road. Dated from about 1866 to present – rarely used.

Rice Cemetery (Trinity County) Take Farm to Market road 2501 in Apple Springs, TX. Turn left at La Dells Shore & continue about three & one-half miles. Look for a dirt road on the right, after you pass a small pond on the left. Rice Cemetery will be found about 100 yards in the woods from the road.

Richardson Cemetery (Leon County)

From SH 7 just east of Kennard, go 4.7 miles south on CR 4700. Turn right at driveway that is lined with Crape Myrtles on eastside and go approx. 0.1 mile south to House. From house walk approx. 904 ft. due west following tree line to small pond. Cross the dam and then walk north along edge of pond. About 18 graves spaces.

Rock Hill Cemetery (Cherokee County) Rock Hill cemetery is located in the Reese community near Jackson­ville, Texas.  It is on the north side of US Hwy 175, directly across from the Reese cemetery.  It is very well maintained and is easily accessed.  With marked burials that began in 1902 it is still in use at this time.  This cemetery is used by people of African-American descent, and is associated with the Rock Hill Baptist Church which was organized in 1897.  Most rows are well defined but some contain empty spaces or unmarked graves. The standard row designa­tions apply to this listing, but several of the rows would be best called strips as 2 or 3 sparse rows are included in them.  Row A begins on the East end of the cemetery and starts from South to North. 

Rockland - West Cemetery (Black) (Houston County) Located about 8 miles south of Crockett on SH 19 or about 5 miles north of Lovelady. Clearly marked from highway at CR 4035. Before you walk in the front gate of Rockland, go to your right around the fence. These graves are outside the fenced area in a less well kept area.

Rowe Cemetery (Cherokee County) Rowe cemetery is located on CR 1522 off of FM 768, near Gallatin. This cemetery was surveyed and photographed on July 13, 2007 by Kaye Slover.


Roy Smith Cemetery (Trinity County) Grave is on private property. To get to the Roy Smith grave from Apple Springs to Northeast on SH 94 4.5 miles to 20348 SH 94 on Southeast side. Grave is 50 yards off road on South side of private drive.


Rude Cemetery (Cherokee County) Rude is located in the Craft Community. To get there you take Hwy. 69 S out of Jacksonville. Turn rt. on FM 1616 and go .2 mi. At the T in the road turn lt. Go about .7 mile. The cemetery is on the left enclosed in a chain link fence.  It is surrounded by pasture and woods but is easily accessed.  Full of weeds but appears to have been mowed occasionally.  The oldest marked burial is that of E.D. Ross, wife of G.W. Ross Jul-14-1867. 


Runnels Cemetery (Angelina County) A relocated Cemetery) (Angelina County) The Old Runnels Cemetery once located in Angelina County was one of several that was relocated due to the building of the Sam Rayburn Dam and Lake by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the years of 1959-1960. This cemetery is now located in San Augustine County and is often called the New Runnels Cemetery.

Shooks Bluff Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Shooks Bluff Cemetery probably dates from before the Civil War.  The site of the town, now a ghost town and the cemetery are about a mile from the Neches River.  From Wells, go west on FM 1247 for 3.8 miles to the junction of FM 1819.  Turn right (north) on FM 1247 for 6/10 miles and turn left on a dirt road.  There is no road or cemetery sign.  Proceed west for 1.1 miles then turn right (north) on another dirt road and go 9/10 miles to the cemetery.


Sickenberger Cemetery (Cherokee County) Sickenburger cemetery is located about 1/4 mile north of the roadside Park, on HWY 69 S of Rusk. There isn't any markers but 6-10 graves that are marked with rocks. The usual "old" type flowers on graves.


Sides Graves (Cherokee County) They are located north of FM 747 about 2 miles northeast of Pierces Chapel.  They are in the area where an old road used to cut through to Ironton on US 79.  He stated that they were not marked in any way and could only be found by someone who had actually been there before.

Simpson Cemetery (Angelina County) From Lufkin, Take Hwy 69 North to Hwy 7 West. Make a right onto Fm 1819. Go 4.8 miles to Simpson Road. The cemetery is located about 8/10 mile down on the right.


Simpson Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Simpson Cemetery is in the southern end of Cherokee County at the Angelina County line. From Wells, go west on FM 1247 to the cemetery sign which is near the Angelina County line sign. Turn east and go about a mile down a dirt road to the cemetery.

Sinclair-McGilberry Cemetery (Angelina County) This cemetery is now included,(along with several others, which will be listed seperately) in the area known as Concord Cemetery, located 5 miles SE of Zavalla, Tx. on Hwy.63.It was relocated in the 1959-1960 time span, when Lake Sam Rayburn was built by the US Corps. of Engineers.

Skains Chapel Cemetery (Trinity County) This cemetery is on private property. This cemetery is reached by taking State Highway 94 east from Trinity, TX. Cross White Rock Creek & turn right on Farm to Market Road 3188. Go about two miles to a paved road to private property on the right. The cemetery is on the left of this driveway.

Smith Cemetery at R (Cherokee County) Smith family cemetery is located in the Reese community near Jackson­ville, Texas.  It is on the west side of County Road 3411 to the north of US Hwy 175.  Go North on County Road 3416 from US Hwy 175.  Go about 2 miles and turn east on County Road 3414.  Go about 1/4 mile and turn north again on County Road 3411.  The cemetery will be on the left at about 1/2 mile.  It is located on private property and cannot be seen from the road very well as it is overgrown with briars and brush.  The large old cedar trees mark it.  Only two stones, both overturned and partly broken, can be found.  Mr. Travis Etheridge of Reese gave the names of three more which are known to be buried here but have no markers.  These are George Clark and Ella M Smith, husband and wife, and their grandson.  There are said to be possibly as many as 30-40 other early Smith related settlers buried here in unmarked graves.

Continue 2.4 miles on CR 3120 west to intersection with CR 3130, go 0.6 mile north on CR 3130. At cattle guard, go 3.6 miles north-west on PR 7105. Follow private road north-west. After crossing substantial wooden bridge, the road will go up hill toward second barn complex. Cemetery is located on right shoulder of road in vicinity of lone post oak.

Smryl Plot (Cherokee County) In May 1997 Bill Slider who lives in Pierces Chapel told me about a couple of graves that he remembers from his childhood that were said to be Smyrl family graves.  They are located to the east of Pierces chapel about a mile toward Gum Creek.  He remembers them as having been covered by bricks but not marked with any identification. The area is only accessible on foot through the woods.

Stubblefield Cemetery (Houston County) From Kennard take FM 2781 in southeastern Houston County. It developed around a school established in the 1880’s. Local resident Wyatt Stubblefield, after whom the settlement was named, later donated land so that the school could be moved to a better site. By the mid-1930’s only a few widely scattered houses and a cemetery remained in the area.

Tarrant Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Tarrant cemetery is located on the North side of County Road 3704, about 3 miles North of Mt. Selman, Texas.  Take County Road 3701 to the North from Mt. Selman, then turn left onto County Road 3704.  The cemetery is surrounded by pasture and contains a huge old cedar tree and several large Oaks.  It is well main­tained and easily accessed. The entrance is on the South side of the cemetery and row designators start on the East end.

Turn right on FM 2064 for .7 mile to the Tecula Cemetery sign and turn left. The cemetery is up the hill about .3 mile. This cemetery has a driveway a few feet into the center of the cemetery, from the west side. It has many uneven rows.


Teeter Family Burial Plot (Trinity County) This burial plot is on private property. On Farm to Market Road 357, two miles northeast of Nogalus Prairie store on the Joe Burton Farm, there are two graves. Reverend P. H. Teeter had his leg cut off in a railroad accident and died, according to Mrs. Joe Burton.

Turn left on 346 in Teasville to Lakewood addition, turn left into the addition, turn left at the first street, then turn right on Crescent St.. It is at the first house on the Crescent St, in a fenced back yard at the home of Carl and Mary Slusher.

Tillman Cemetery (Cherokee County) Tillman cemetery is located to the South and West of Jacksonville, Texas, On State road 747, just South of the Pierce's Chapel communi­ty on the right.  It is a small family cemetery enclosed in a chain link fence and has a couple of very large cedar trees in the corners.  It is well maintained.

Thevat Cemetery (Trinity County) From Groveton, Texas take U.S. Highway 287 south about one mile to F.M. 2262. Turn left and travel about 12 miles to the white Trevat Church of Christ on the left. Trevat Cemetery is located to the right of the Church. From Apple Springs, travel south approximately 7.3 miles on F.M. 357 to a dead end. Turn right onto F.M. 2262 and go 1.3 miles. The cemetery is on the right.

Union Grove Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Union Grove cemetery is located on the East side of FM Road 2138, about 8 miles South of Jackson­ville, Texas.  It is surrounded by woods but is near several residences.  It is well maintained and the rows are orderly.  The en­trance is on the West end of the cemetery and for that reason this listing assigns rows starting with the first row on the West as row A.  The oldest marked burial is that of Mary Ann Reynolds Patton in 1868.  The cemetery was associated with the Union Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church which is no longer active.

Warren Cemetery (Cherokee County) The Warren cemetery is located to the South of US Hwy 79 just before it crosses the Neches River into Anderson County.  Turn south on CR 3220 and go about one mile and turn west on a dirt road which goes toward the river.  About three quarters of a mile down that road the cemetery is on the hill just before you start down into the slough of the river bottom.  Long time Cherokee County resident Earl Miles remembered the cemetery from his childhood but stated that even then there were no readable markers, just certain plants growing there that showed the cemetery area.  He judged the size to have originally been one half acre, large enough for 30 - 50 graves.  Some names known to be buried here were provided by Doris Claiborne and Earl Miles.

He walked where I could not , up hills with washed out roads and creeks , in the July heat with mosquitos everywhere in order to obtain the photos.

West End Memorial Cemetery (Madison County) (Black) West End Memorial Cemetery is an African-American cemetery located on Martin Luther King Blvd. From the courthouse, go west on Trinity St. to MLK, go two blocks south on MLK. The cemetery is on the west side

West Shady Grove Cemetery (Cherokee County) West Shady Grove cemetery is located to the South and West of Jacksonville, Texas, On County road 1904 which turns to the West off State Road 747 South of the Pierce's Chapel community.  It is in a very scenic but lonely spot on a hill covered with old growth oak trees.  It has a small permanent pavilion and a paved drive-thru.  It is well maintained.  There are some temporary markers that have become unread­able and several sandstone blocks which mark graves but give no clue to the individual buried there.  These are not included in the listing, so just be aware of them.

Williams, Chriss, Burial Site (Black) see Chriss Williams Burial Site (Black) (Trinity County) This cemetery is on private property. This site is in the yard of a private residence in Trinity, TX. Starting at Main & Robb Streets, travel 1.1 miles west on Main Street to Lakefield, turn south & travel three-tenths of a mile to the family burial plot on the west side of Lakefield. A cyclone fence separates the burial plot from a private residence to the south. This information was furnished by Ms. Hattie Marie Baker of Trinity, Texas, in 1992.


William “Bill” Havard Cemetery (Angelina County) Location :US Hwy.69 past Zavalla to FM.Rd.1270 to Co.Rd.366 , 2 miles west of Tom Havard Cemetery on the river road and 2 miles to the left and into the woods. There is a sign with the cemetery's name on it by the roads edge and the cemetery is located in the woods behind the hunting clubs' "sign-in" box.
