In 1891 the William Lafayette Yates family moved
from Philadelphia, Neshoba County, Mississippi to
Coltharp, Houston County, Texas.
William L. Yates was born January 28, 1840 in
Alabama; died in Jayton, TX in 1923. He was
the son of Darling Barber Yates and Mary Emily
Oliver, born February 17, 1820 in South Carolina and
died July 16, 1900 in MS.
Darling Barber Yates was born 1815 in Georgia and
died June 18, 1861 in Philadelphia, Neshoba Co., MS.
William L. was married to edna Amelia Salter,
born February 17, 1844 in MS and died October 27,
1898 in Houston Co., TX. She is buried in the
Antioch Cemetery, five miles from Crockett, TX.
William and Edna Yates raised a family of ten
children, four sons and six daughters.
