Benjamin F. Sallas and his wife owned and operated the Sallas Hotel across the street from the Missouri Pacific Railroad Depot, and also developed the Depot Addition and the Crockett Heights Addition in the western section of Crockett. The owned land in the Antioch Community near Lovelady.

Notes for JONATHAN BENJAMIN "J.B." SALLAS:

J.B Sallas attended first grade at the Center School in Antioch, the rest of his elementary and high school years in Crockett. He attended Schreiner College in Kerrville, then entered the University of Texas School of Law in 1937 and graduated with a Bachelor of Law Degree in 1940. He served as State Representative from 1940-1949. He then devoted full-time to the practice of law.

In 1962 he was elected Mayor of the City of Crockett and served as Mayor until 1977.

In 1965 Gov Price Daniel appointed J.B. Sallas a Director of the Neches River Conservation District for a term of three years. He was re-appointed for a term of three years by Gov. John Connally; he was then re-appointed by Gov. Preston Smith for a three year term.

J.B. Sallas served as president of the Texas Highway 19 Association, president of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments and he was elected to serve as the first chairman of the Board of Directors of the Houston County Hospital.
