Tom E. & Emily Covington

 

Tom E. Covington married Mrs. Emily Brunson, widow of Joe Brunson, and came in 1896 in a covered wagon from Georgia to Cherokee Co., TX, where they lived one year.  Then they moved to Anderson County and in 1901 moved to Augusta, Houston Co., TX where they lived the remainder of their lives, raising eight children.

 

Emily had three Brunson children:

1. Mary Brunson who married C.M. Robinson of Mt. Pleasant and had a son, Jesse who became a Methodist preacher and a daughter named Emma Lou.

2.  Charlie Brunson; married Gertrude Adams and had 5 children: (1) Eunice Brunson married Hamilton Beeson.  (2) Joe Brunson, Veteran of WWII married Helen Logan; (3) Louise Brunson married Luther Durrett and their children are Luther Ray who married Ann Petty, Vernon Gene Durrett married Brenda K. May and Jackie Paul Durrett married Patti Carruth.  (4) Eula Mae Brunson first married Jesse Johnson, a state champion fiddler who participated for many years in the Houston County Old Fiddler's Convention.  They had a son, Jesse Jr. who was a member of the Police force in Houston.  Eula Mae married 2nd. Robert Lee Stanley who was on the Police force in Crockett.  (5) Charlie Brunson, Jr. a veteran of WWII married Marie Turner.

3.  Emily's third child was Gordon Brunson who married Leona Henderson, daughter of a Methodist preacher.  That had 2 children: Roy wo was in WWII and spent 30 years in the Army.  Their other son was Donald Brunson.

 

Tom Covington and his wife had 5 other children:

1. Jim Covington married Mary Hemby of Elkhart and had two children: Vivian and Thomas Earl.

2.  Ethel Covington married Arthur P. Bolton who died in 1960; she then married Marshall Brown.  She lived in Grapeland and had no children.

3.  Verna Covington married Guy Lively and had three sons.  Buna Covington married Raymond Neel and had a daughter Melba.  Hattie Covington married Jim Tom Lively.
