William Yarbrough & Sarah W. Dillard

 The family of William Yarbrough was one of three Yarbrough clans that lived in Houston County in the 1800’s. The other two were the families and descendants of:

(2) George Washington Yarbrough  and Nancy L Underwood, then Anna Nancy Ward.

 

William Yarbrough never lived in Houston County TX. He died before his widow and most children made the trip in 1871.  After his death, his son George Sampson Yarbrough  battled carpet-baggers and creditors in court to become administrator of his father’s estate in Jackson County Florida nd in Decatur County Georgia. George, after settling debts and ensuring  his mother and minor siblings had been taken care of, gathered them all and brought them by boat to Texas landing in Galveston. They came by wagon to Houston County where family stories say that Sarah traded a yoke of oxen and the wagon for about 40 acres of land in the Stephen Box League. George and his new wife settled in Madison County where he became a County Judge and raised his children.
