John Taylor McQueen was the son of Robert McQueen born abt. 1797 North Carolina and died June 28, 1839 in Columbus, Georgia.  He married Cecilia Ellerbe, daughter of Joseph Ellerbe and Elizabeth Farr.  Cecilia Ellerbe was born 1803 and died 03 APR 1835 in Columbus, Georgia. 

Children of Robert McQueen and Cecilia Ellerbe were:

(1) Anna M. McQueen b.1822 Ceraw, Chesterfield Dist Co., SC, died 1906 Dripping Springs, Hays Co., TX.  She married (1) Daniel H. Smith, (2) Alexander G. Nicholson 26 JUN 1843 South Carolina.  He was born abt. 1809, died after 1860.

(2) Eliza Ellerbe McQueen, born 03 OCT 1824 Cheraw, Chesterfield Dist. Co., SC, died 13 APR 1899, Rockingham, Richmond Co., NC; married Peter Williamson Stansil abt. 1846.  He was born 29 AUG 1812 died 16 APR 1890.

(3) John Taylor McQueen.

John Taylor McQueen was the grandson of Joseph Ellerbe and his wife, Elizabeth Farr Ellerbe of Cheraw District, SC. John McQueen was orphaned by the death of his mother in 1835 in Macon Co., Georgia and of his father in 1839 in Muscogee Co., GA. He may have come to Kemper County, with Ellerbe relatives. An uncle, George Washington Ellerbe was in Kemper County by 1842. George's sister Hannah Ellerbee and her husband Cornelius Nicholson came to Kemper County, by 1860, Thomas Farr Ellerbe married 14 August 1858 in Castalian Spring, Holmes, Co., Miss on 14 August 1858 by 1859 was in Kemper County. Joseph Ellerbe was living with his daughter Hanna Nicholson when they were counted in the 1860 Kemper Co., Census.

John Taylor McQueen's location was unknown from 1839 until when he enlisted  6 November 1847 in the war with Mexico at Mobile, Alabama. He was a private in 1 Battalion commanded John G. Barr of Alabama Volunteers.  He served 5 or 6 months and was honorably discharged 28 June 1848 in Mobile, Alabama.  At that time he was 20 years of age, five feet nine inches high, fair complexion, hazel eyes, light hair and by occupation a farmer. He was a pensioner under Cert. # 5879 and made a claim for bounty land.

John Taylor McQueen married (1) Eliza Ann Diggs in DeKalb, Kemper County, Miss. on 8 November 1849; she was born 28 SEP 1833 in Anson Co., NC and died abt. 1873 in Brazos Co., TX.  He married (2) Nancy Ann Wicker 22 FEB 1876 close to Latexo, Houston Co., TX.  She was born 4 OCT 1859 TX and died 28 OCT 1937in Glen Cove, Coleman Co., TX.  Nancy Ann Wicker was the daughter of John A. Wicker and Emily Diggs.  After the death of John Taylor McQueen, Nancy moved to Coleman Co., TX with other family members.  She is buried in Glen Cove Cemetery, Glen Cove, Coleman Co., TX

1.  Cecilia Jane McQueen; born 16 NOV 1851 MS, died 11 AUG 1938 Dripping Springs, Hays Co., TX; married William Hill "Will"  Crenshaw, son of Henry J. Crenshaw and Mahala Harmon.  Six children: Tennie Scott, Anna Myra, La Nora, Dora Pamelia, Caudential Waite and David Wesley.  Both are buried in Dripping Springs, Hays Co., TX.

2. Robert McQueen; born ca.1854 Houston Co., TX, died 12 NOV 1854 Houston Co., TX.

3.  William Thomas "Will" McQueen; born 28 MAY 1857 Houston Co., TX, died 10 MAY 1915 Latexo, Houston Co., TX.  Married Dolly Sides.

4.  Prudy Anna McQueen; born 10 JAN 1860 TX; married Ben Herod.

5.  John Morgan McQueen; born 7 DEC1862 TX; died 24 FEB 1944; married Bennie Lou "Dolly" Crenshaw 22 JUL 1886.  She was born 1871 and died 1956.  Moved to Coleman Co., TX.  Buried Brown Ranch Cemetery, Coleman Co., near Fisk, TX.

6.  Benjamin Franklin McQueen; born 16 JAN 1866 Houston Co., TX; died 28 JUL 1910.  He married Rosa Lee Lewis ca. 1885.  She was born ca. 1872 TX, died 1939.  They are both buried in the Milligan Cemetery, Houston Co., TX.  Children: Edgar Taylor, Ervin/Urban, R. Cecil, Garland, Virgil Alexander, Mary, Viola, Zella, Willie, Bertha and Tommy.

7.  Daniel M. "Dan" McQueen; born 6 AUG 1869 Grapeland, Houston Co., TX, died 03 MAR 1937, Talpa, Coleman Co., TX.  He married Annie Belle Brinkley.  Children: Maudie Jane, Alice Melvina, Lucy Baker, Nancy Ida and George.  After the death of Annie Belle, Daniel married Sally Morehead Davis.  Children: Elmer and Ollie.

8.  Cora McQueen.  Born 01 DEC 1872 Bryan, Brazos Co., TX.  Cora was allowed to be adopted.  Her mother Eliza apparently died in childbirth.  She married (1) Mack Stevenson; children John and Joel.  She married (2) Ross Murchison.

1.  Edgar McQueen; born 7 MAR 1879 TX, died 13 Jul 1950. Married Winnie Jane ?, b.1895 d. 14 Jun 1948.  Buried Milligan Cemetery, Houston Co., TX.

2.  Joseph Ellerbe McQueen, born 18 JAN 1881 Latexo, Houston Co., TX, died 13 JUL 1950; buried in Milligan Cemetery, Houston Co., TX.

3.  Lewis Cecil McQueen, born 21 NOV 1883 Latexo, Houston Co., TX, died 21 JUL 1885 Latexo., Houston Co., TX.
