C.B.M. Horton arrived in Texas April 7, 1839.

C.B.M. HORTON was born 1821 in Alabama and died February 24, 1863.  He married Judy Cornwell.  She was born about 1825 in Virginia.

Two sons of C.B.M. & Judy Horton were:

1.  Calvin B. Horton born 1850 in Houston County, Texas.

2.  Ralph H. Horton born 1860 (place unknown).

1. Texas Land Grant for 320 acres in Liberty Co., TX - July 4, 1839

2.  Poll tax rolls of 1846 Republic of Texas for Houston Co., TX.

3.  Deed for sale of land (Alabama Community) from Jacob Albright to C.B.M. Horton - May 29, 1847.

4.  1850 census of Houston Co., TX - enumerated Dec. 11, 1850, dwelling #667.

      Calvin B. M. Horton, age 30, wm, farmer, AL

      Judy Horton, age 25, wf, VA

      Calvin Horton, age 2/12, wm, Houston Co., TX

      Rosanna Finch*, age 7, wf, Houston Co., TX  (* This person connection is unknown but is assumed to be the

             daughter of Richard & Afra J. Finch whose census was enumerated Dec. 4, 1850 dwelling #661 pg. 395.  Unknown

             if her parents died or were killed in an Indian raid.)

Some time after 1859, C.B.M. Horton is conscripted into Carter's 3rd Texas Lancers in Liberty Co., TX in place of Ab McMurtry of Liberty Co., TX.

1862 - 3rd Texas Lancers is formed into Texas 25th Cavalry and sent to Arkansas.

C.B.M. Horton is captured at Battle at Arkansas Post (Fort Hindman) Jan. 11, 1863 and shipped north to a Union prison.  He left with pneumonia, was in Hickory Street Hospital (St. Louis, MO) where he dies.  He was buried the same day at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery (St. Louis, MO).

Judy Horton had their second son, Ralph H. Horton (great-grandfather of Russell Jordan), in 1860.  Judy Horton doesn't  appear on the 1860 census, so the birth place of Ralph Horton is not documented.

The next record of Judy Horton is in 1880 in Beaumont (Jefferson Co., TX) in the household of  Calvin Horton, her oldest son.
